hello, my son and niece loves bananas & marshmallows. i'm going to try this. looks so yummy. my question is here in our hometown the whipping cream is very expensive because its imported. may i ask if there is an alternative ingredient to whipping cream please...? is this ok to chill the whole thing before serving it? :)
@MommyNiMatty If you halve half-and-half (Half milk, half cream), that would probably work; otherwise, it really needs whipping cream. Yes, you should chill the salad before serving it.
@bettyskitchen yes we have milk and all purpose cream here. i can purchase that locally. ill just measure 1/2 pint of these two ingredients to substitute with the 1/2 pint whipping cream. thanks for the tip and thank you for being so patient and thank you for being detailed. :)
@MrVictoria345 Thanks! Yes, I do. You might type in jello and see what comes up. Right off the top of my head, I can think of a lime mist salad and a ribbon salad that we serve at Christmas, plus a cherry applesauce heart for Valentine's day.
I like the cabinets you have there, contemporary, simple and neat. The white refrigerator contrast the dark brown cabinets very well. Also the table, is it marble?
i tried this but i failed to make it jellicious.....:(..don't know maybe because of too much water or maybe because i put it inside the freezer...... will try it again next time
@badmedgirl Greeks and other Mediterranean cultures often eat fresh fruits with cheese. Even the French. You'll also find it rather common in the Napa Valley in California. Wine, cheese, fresh fruit (especially the large, plump, seedless grapes)... perfection.
@azngirl10588 I'll be honest with you-a lot of people have been reluctant to put the shredded sharp cheese on top. However, this is a recipe that I discovered about 35 years ago, and it is a favorite of all of my family, even the younger generation. The cheese really makes the salad! I'm always searching my serving for more of that tangy cheese! You could try making the salad as directed and leave off the top layer. Then, on one serving try adding the cheese. I think you'll love it!
I really love your recipes, but I was wondering if you maybe could speed things up, especially when the recipes are more simple to follow. I find myself rolling over some parts, just a suggestion :-)
You are right about the kiwi and pineapple, but that only refers to uncooked fruits. Since canned crushed pineapple is cooked, there is no problem with jelling. I hope you get a chance to try the recipe! It's great!!! Thanks for commenting!
This weekend I made your Lean Bean Salad for my French husband and my French friends. Everyone gave it a thumbs up! So it's an international hit. Easy to make and very refreshing.
Hi! Thanks for your comment! You are not the only one who has questione the cheese on this salad. I have been making it with the cheese for at leat 35 years, and, for me, the Cheddar cheese is the best part! I mentioned to my husband last night that some people were not sure about the cheese, and he immediately said, "The cheese makes it!" I would suggest that you make it without the cheese, then take some on a spoon and sprinkle some sharp cheese on it, and see what you think! Thanks!
I want to make this now but I have no ingredients-I will this week though.
I made your potato, broccoli and cheddar soup earlier it came out pretty good but I had never made a cheese sauce and it was a bit lumpy ooops. I can't wait to try some more recipes but I tried that because I had most of the ingredients (except broccoli). I wanna try something really southern next! (:
I think you will like this recipe. I am assuming that your potato, broccoli, and cheddar soup tasted good--I wouldn't worry about a few lumps! I admire you for trying some things that are new to you! Thanks for giving me some feedback!
For me, the cheese is definitely a plus--it's just a tangy flavor mixed with sweet flavors; however, if it doesn't appeal to you, you may leave it off, or substitute some sliced marascino cherries on top. Either way, it's a great salad! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I LOVE THIS my grandma makes it all the time for the holidays!!!!!

@Tummertops Thanks for the compliments on my kitchen. No, the table isn't marble; it's just some material that has a stone look.

I fail to make it jelly:( I placed the right amount of water and used canned pineapple but still it's not jelly.what did i do wrong?
013aVice 11 months ago
@013aVice If the liquid is right and the pineapple is cooked, it should jell.

TherealMackyCan 1 year ago
@TherealMackyCan Be sure not to use fresh pineapple; it must be canned (cooked). Fresh pineapple will keep gelatin from jelling.
