  • i captured one there soo cute i kept it for 4 years and it died of old age :(

  • ITS SO FLUFFY IM GUNNA DIE!!!!

  • kill it it kills deers

  • ahhhhhh sooo cute (:

  • It's cute :) I like it when they're adults and they have their long legs. They're like the sandpipers on the beach.

  • i've done this :3 its is SO silky. I just ran around with it in my back yard, petted it, then went back to the gate and let it free. I know watch it from the windows (it stays close to its parents who live right next to my house) and its always walking in the nasty water because the pavement is super hot. killdeer FTW!

  • I caught one today with my friend they are so cute and cool and they look funny when the run. :)

  • I found two baby quail, not nearly as cute though :(

  • aww. in the summer there were a bunch of neighbourhood cats that would climb into my backyard.. and one of the cats pulled out the tail feathers on one of the birds that lives in our trees, so everyday for two months my mom came out with a bowl of birdseed and water and kept it in one of the trees until it was able to fly again.

  • Don't listen to the morons, the mother is not going to kill it...listen to the good advise and try to find a real rehab place. try looking online, I hope it works out for you! And whoever thinks this was a bad thing, how many kids would have just stepped on the thing and not thought anything of it! This person deserves props for respecting wildlife enough to care about what happens to this baby!

  • I have found a killdeer baby, it has some feathers but it was injurd. The bird sancuary didn't call me back, could you please give me some advice I just found it last night. I took it in cause it was getting dark and I didn't want it to get eatin here in FL

  • @bevinallison Just catch some mosquitoes or any other tiny bugs like that and feed them to it with a tweezer, put the bug in the beak and in the back of it's tounge. Give it water with either an sringe or eye dropper.

  • @bigsidfan

You absolutely should not give a hatchling water. The chances that they will aspirate it into their lungs is extremely high and besides at that age they don't need water because they obtain it through their food.

  • @bigsidfan giving water like that is always a bad idea with birds. Unlike us, their glottis (airway opening at the back of their tongue) does not have a flap over it to prevent water from going into their airways and they can drown if they are given water in that manor.

  • They need a variety of insects, that's why they're hard to raise. They also can't be force-fed and can't eat other types of food. So if your friend actually raised one, he must be really knowledgeable.

  • That's very cute. I hope you didn't get into any trouble by keeping it. How did your friend take care of it? I hear they're hard to raise.

  • @MrHeffalump4 My friend kept it as a pet. Its alive and well.

  • @bigsidfan why did she keep it as a pet?

  • @khk0510 Because she was scared to put it back because we didn't know where the mother is/was

  • @bigsidfan oh thanks for replying.

  • @MrHeffalump4 Aghhhh! Ignorance!!!!!!!!!

Birds don't abandon or eat there eggs or chicks after humans touch them. Contrary to urban myth they will except them no matter what happens to them (unless they die or the eggshell cracks). Although birds have noses, they're not very acute. So bigsidfan, your friend should have given the bird back. However it is a little late now (the parents probably think the chick is long dead). I suggest you send it to a nature center or ask a zoologist.

  • @MrHeffalump4 nigger face, lrn2 nature

  • @MrHeffalump4 Thats a Fable.

  • @MrHeffalump4 you should really read more. put your brain in gear before you put your mouth in motion

  • @MrHeffalump4 thats not true, the birds cant smell human scents. To your research. That is false that birds will kill the babies if a human handles it! you sound really dumb.. LOL dork

  • I love killdeers look at my username

  • ive caught about 5...i cant feed em so i let em go

  • Hope it bites you ! Kidding, it looks nice to touch. x] !

  • where did you find him

  • Cute lil fella.

  • Actually, that's not true whatsoever. It's been proven that parent's DO NOT abandon there babies, even after human presence is sensed(or smelled).

  • @thefencingmaster23 thanks... I think im gonna set the one I found out by door where the parents perch b4 going to work tomorrow... its in a box with rice and a little water right now

  • that's a complete urban myth, idiot.

  • Cute and innocent!

  • aww its so cute

  • lol

  • Aww cute! ^_^

  • how come its spelled like deer but pronounced dee?

  • Everyone I know pronounces it deer unless were all saying it wrong.

  • alsome i raised one too

  • killdeer are named for there soung they make a high pitched kill-deer and i raised one. to lure predators waay(humans) they do the (broken wing display. one day i was riding and som e teen drove right over the mom i am a animal lover and i new that if i didn't save it it would die

  • They are born on the ground. You should have just left it there. The mom will come back. I just had 4 hatch in my yard. The mom lays the eggs on the ground because as soon as they downy dries they run around.

  • So why are those called killdeers?

  • Its because thats what it sounds like the adult Killdeers are yelling when they fly around.

  • Aha, alright, thank you.

  • you stole that from its parents

when it chirps like that it is crying out for its lost mom

  • Nope, it's a food begging call. Contact calls are not made until much later.

  • oh gotcha

  • SO CUTE!!

  • u shouldn't interfere with wild baby birds. their parents could abandon them if a human touches and handles their baby. there are killdeer in my front feild (i live in the country) but we know not to go too close to their nests

  • you do know that birds have a poor sense of smell or dont have a sense of smell at all and the parent birds will NOT abandon them

  • Yur an idiot that not truue i touched a bird's egg itt did not abandon they do not abdandon just because the human scent is on it u fck tard

  • Birds can not smell, u ........rd. That's mammals which might abandon after human contact.

  • Yeah birds abandoning their young as a result of human scent is a myth.

  • not with blue birds we had some that got kicked out of the nest from squirrls mom was taking care of them on the ground and some local kids touched and played with them. the mom killed them after that

  • a bird killed some local kids omg i did't know birds were capable of that lol jk

  • when you hold or touch baby birds sometimes th mothers will stop feeding them so it is best not to touch them unless you are sure that the parents are gone for good!!

  • uhm dude 1 thats a myth and it's not true 2 people do this because the mother makes them run away and people catch them before they get eaten by a REAL preditor!!!

  • sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute

  • aww i hope its well i only hate the parents when their nesting cause they nest every where i atv so i get out and move the nest and yell at the mother for no reason

  • AWW sweet

  • hows it doing?? the babys in my yard are doing fine...they are still with the mom and dad. 4 babys total...hope it goes well for yea...

  • Its doing good, my friend is thinking about seeing if it can learn tricks or be trained.

  • Please take it to a rescue center. If you're in the Us then keeping killdeer (or any native bird) is illegal.

  • oh my god a rescue center? ITS A BIRD! If it were up to Americans, all man should bring abandoned ants to rescue center.

  • Show us your figuer collection please.

  • awh! its adorable
