  • 1957 - was this the prototype? They certainly weren't deployed in Europe then - the local airbase had B47s and B36s. Funny how such a big 8 engined plane tried to do a 1/4 barrel roll - probably because the rival RAF's Vulcan could do a full barrel roll and was fully operational in 1956

  • @BRITSIMdotCOM

But the B-52 bomber had far more payload and range than the RAF Vulcan. This bomber was never intended to do acrobatic maneuvers--after all, it's a bomber, not a fighter.

  • what movie is this? please share title? thanks....

  • @beramz83 The title is Bombers B-52, and it was made in 1957.

  • @beramz83

The name of the movie is "Bombers B-52"...same as title of this video clip.

  • WOW! I'm not much into aircraft without pistons and props, but that's COOL!

  • great plane, great propaganda movie for the Ruskies to take note of also i bet :)

  • I LOVE B-52 !!!

  • i wish they had never chopped these up by the hundreds, after all they all had just one more flight left in them and well you never know.

  • That looks remarkably like Castle Air Force Base in Central California.

  • its a mothership

  • A beautiful and awesome aircraft.....showing our nation's Might! Be Blessed, be thanksful to all those that served on the front lines, on the ground, in the air, on the high seas! Salute them all! Be blessed

  • USAF..Da BeSt!!

  • This was a great movie.

  • Needs 4 GE 90-115Bs. Not 8 of those 707 engines.

  • @TheCottonTop Naw need 4 Gen-2 engines

  • Wow, hadn't realized just how much I miss that sound and feel when the engines rev up for take-off. It vibrates your bones. Carl Malden was really that young once?

  • Those B52s "roto tilled" the desert real good during Operation Desert Storm.

  • Watching this beauty makes me all the angrier at that nutcake AF general who put a 52 into the ground practicing for an airshow. If you search here you'll find several vids. Just search "B-52 crash". No one would fly with him after a number of dumbo acts, and in the right seat that day was a guy who had the assigned co-pilot pulled just in case the screwball general effed up. Well, he did, with the replacement right seater's whole family watching.

  • Best air craft ever. Carl always love you!

  • I remember the first time I ever saw one of these things fly - when you see one of these planes in the air, you know it means business!!

I don't know why they just don't build brand new B-52's if age is a concern. We have all the designs, plans, etc. Just build new ones when the old ones are no good anymore.

  • I always remember the first time I saw one, it was at one of our bases in Thailand during the vietnam war.

I thought wow, this plane is huge. I think they were all painted green, not so colorful as this one.

  • @whiskeyify

Military aircraft went from silver color to green camouflage to the present

dull gray color. The B-52 has been around for all three paint jobs.

  • "Jets should be for dropping bombs on Moscow, not French cuisine."

    --Roger Sterling

  • Love those old J-57's with the big oil coolers. Many fond memories.

  • Damn, they should use some dramatic music or something. I din't find the take-off suspenseful enough.....

  • working parts are replaced so regularly on the Aerospace machines , it is somewhat laughable to call them either old , or decrepit . Replace my joints , or my organs every 5 years and I'll still kick your arse at 100 .. regardless.

  • hahahaha amen buddy

  • I want this movie on DVD!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know where it can be found?

  • The USAF would like to retire more B-52s so that they could divert the money to other projects, but Congress will not let them.

  • gonna call BS on that one

  • ¿Como se tituló en España esta pelicula?

  • I read the last "Hotel" models were delivered in October,1962, and that the U.S.A.F. intends to keep these in service until 2045.

  • A number of years back, I toured a B-52, and made a point of asking the crew what they thought about claims to keep the 52 in service another 50 years. They seemed very confident in their assertion that it wasn't going to happen.

But you never know, there is no other American plane like it, it might stick around. But in the age of long range missiles, I have to wonder the likely hood of an 80+ year old bomber remaining in frontline service.

  • This is mostly true. They have a Over-haul in the works, which might give it the 747 engines, and thus a new letter designation.

  • yeah, bring them back and use them in pakistan. level that nation and end the war forever.

  • AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not as pretty as the Vulcan

  • We should take the mothballed 52's and rebuild them to current "H" standards (or better) and put them back into service. many were retired with fewer hours than the H's current;y in use. It would save taxpayers money and give us more of these wonderful aircraft in service. At the least, rebuild them and mothball them in case of conflict.

  • Those mothballed aircraft are keeping the current B-52's flying. They are stripped of parts for the active fleet.

  • Yes, that is true. Some of the mothballed could be recommissioned as well The 52 will probably outlast the B-1 and B-2. if e were smart, we would start production of an upgraded 52. We have all the technology that we need to produce an even better 52 with better ECM and payload capabilities. it would save an enormous amount of tax dollars. IMO

    Thanks...

  • we cant do that because of the treaty with russia. limiting the number of aircraft that can carry a nuclear weapons

  • You americans do not know how lucky you are to have these things - they are some of the most beautiful planes on earht

  • copy of the russian bear? gimme a break...those pukes always ripped us off....

  • i just love to see all that black smoke when the pilots pour on the power

  • The Christmas of 1972 Raids that brought the north to it's knees and brought an end to the conflict Code name was

"Linebacker II' I have a good freind that flew the lead BUFF as the aircraft commander on the night of Dec 26th with the on scene commander in the IP Seat.

  • RIP, Karl Malden. He passed away at age 97 today.

  • @towringer Great actor, sadly missed

  • Love this movie and the one which starred Rock Hudson and Rod Taylor made in 65.Worth it just for the footage of B52s.

Jimmy Stewert's Strategic Air Command was another good film showcasing B36 and B47s.

  • Thats a BUFF - Big Ugly Fat Fucker

  • The B29 was pressurized, so the crew didn't have to wear special clothing. But the guys on a B52 wear helmets and oxygen masks. Was that progress?

  • What movie is this??

  • The movie was "Bombers B-52" from 1957 look at IMDB

I don't agree with the comments on the B36. They were a maintenance nightmare.

That's why the B-52 was rushed in to production. The original design looked an awful like the Russian Bear. Essentially, the guys at Wright-Patterson said they wanted an all jet strategic bomber. It was redesigned over the weekend in a hotel in Dayton, OH. I missed seeing both fly from Ellsworth when I was a kid. I saw the BUFF take off several times since.

  • Ah, the good old days of SAC! It's amazing this bird is still in service today! It's a shame things are so bad with the USAF's command structure at the moment, I hear there was a plan to uprate the BUFF's engines to more modern and effecent ones but somehow they just couldn't get the funding or any support. God bless our Airmen and troops, it's a hell of a time to be in the service!

  • HEY wasn't NATALIE WOOD in this?

Where is she? Does she show up later?

I think this movie is now available in

    the NATALIE WOOD DVD Collection.

  • Yes. Natalie Wood is the sergeant's daughter, and she appears in earlier & later scenes.

  • @JohnnyGNV She plays the part of the submarine that can't surface, LOL.

  • @JohnnyGNV

Natalie Wood rode in the bomb bay. She was later dropped over the ocean and tragically drowned. :)

  • Sweet plane I wish I could fly this thing in real life instead of on a flight simulator.

  • Classic film, right along with 'A gathering of Eagles!'

  • haha.. All you old buff men!! Griffiss ftw!

  • Well... that would be the end of Karl Mauldin's hearing, wouldn't it?

  • I how wonder how many b-52s they could bring out of the bone yard if needed

  • Not Many cause most of them have been cut up because of the START II treaty.

  • thank you for the information

  • I live , literally, right next to D-M AFB and drive by the boneyard every day on all sides of it. Don't see any Buffs anymore, used to be a lot years ago but they're all gone from what I can tell.

  • thank you for the reply

  • The 52 has been in service for more than half a century!. Although, I do agree the B-36 was totally unreal too.

  • B-36 is a big slow monster, about it. The B-52 can fly to Russia and back before the B-36 could reach Russia.

  • At high altitude the B36 could outperform and was faster then any fighter of the era

  • No it wasn't.

  • yes it was check out b36 performance

  • I did, it had a max speed of just over 400 MPH, cruised at less than 300. Certainly not faster than a jet.

  • I love the dramtic music..lol

  • yea i agree with elroto the B-36 peacemakers seem more impressive

  • somehow the buff just isnt as impressive as a B-36

  • what is the name of the movie

  • Bombers B-52 is the name

  • love the gear, unique to a 52 I believe

  • Outstanding! I was a SAC KC-135A crew chief for 13 yrs.. I pulled many many months of "Alert" with the BUFFS... Ron Howard needs to make a movie about Linebacker II The story of how the B-52 ended the Vietnam war in only 12 days!!!

  • Good job Batesphotos!!! The B-52 strikes did just exactly that. Was that called ARC lIGHT?

  • Hi yes ARC LIGHT was the callsign for a B52 strike from the guys on the ground..Im from the U.K Scotland, i was touring California few years back and stopped to watch a B52 doing its stuff over the Mojave Desert..I though the plane was in trouble but the guy flying it was handling it like a fighter plane...awesome old girl the b52

  • Thanks for the response joeredd13215. and yes the B-52 is a wonderful aircraft.. I ve heard from groundcrews that the BUFF has developed individual characteristics.. Some are easy to get up and flying in the morning and some have to be pampered .. He said its like they have a soul.. he he.

  • Man, Batesphotos...what a cool idea!!! I used to watch the B-52 as a kid at local airshows at Castle AFB in Merced Ca. Who'd have believed that those jet fley at such high sub-sonic speeds and a planned service life expentancy of nearly 80 years. I read where they want it to be active service till 2040?!?! What a tribute to Boeing and American ingeunity!

  • :29 karl malden good man and actor

  • I have been searching for the DVD of this video and no joy! Even the tape video is non exsistent.

  • Never been released on DVD. I have my dad's old VHS of it and the quality is too poor to even try a conversion

  • is there a full version of this video uploaded in youtube, or a part 2, 3,... of this video?

    thanks

    marco - brazil

  • what is this from??????????????????

  • Carl played Sgt. C Brennan in this 1957 moive showcasing the B-52....BOMBERS B-52

  • That one is an old tall tail, too...

    Good vid!

  • these planes give me a hard on!!

  • I noticed the B52 in the beginning has a white belly, as to deter the flash of a nuclear bomb. Every B52 with a white underbelly carried nukes.

  • they had it on the x15 and dragsters headers too

  • Oh yes, the good old days when we were ready

    to Nuke tose Communist Bastards!

  • Were? still are..although these days we have underground and sub-based nukes on alert 24/7..

  • I can not find this movie anywhere!!

  • So... Beautiful....

Perhaps the finest aircraft ever built (my opininon)

And still flying!!!!! Holy Hell!!! It's gunna be around when I retire!!!

  • i love the tu-95 but the b52 is king

  • The B-52 is only better bomber in today ever not Tu-95.

  • Gots to love the Big Bad Buff.

  • Thats why you just don't mess with the USAF

  • go u.s.a

  • woot!
