Greedy Sinhala elites started this war 50 years ago by trying to create a Sinhala State instead of a state of all the communities of the island. Unfortunately the Sinhala workers and peasants have gained nothing from this strategy except chance to be killed in war or chance to become a housemaid. Of course many middle class people of all communities have left the island to settle abroad. This was supports no one but the politicians in power. It must be stopped for the good of all the people.

Whis Mahinda a war criminal? Because his policies have led to the death of thousands of civilians mostly Tamil and Muslim since he has come into power bu airforce bombing and artillery shelling refugee camps, villages and schools and farms.

The killing of innocents is wrong no matter who does it. A responsible govt would try to seek a political solution for the just grievances of tha Tamil people. Instead power hungry politicians whip up racism to win votes in the south and the cycle of violence continues.

Even as recently as 2002 the LTTE agreed in principle to a federal solution. Unfortunately the extremists in the south scuttled that plan. They do not want to give anything at all to the Tamils of the north and east. They only want to dominate. The LTTE are not the only terrorists. Unfortunately the GOSL is the bigger terrorist. We need a political solution like federalism.

hmmmmmm.......... I guess now the East is not involved in this mess anymore. Plus I don't think Tamils in Hill country has any of the problems you described. Also, there should be a reason for the innocent Hill Country Tamils not face unfortunate deaths like the ones in LTTE controlled areas. From now on we may have to mourn only about innocents in North. Hope there will be peace return to these PPL in Sri Lanka..... I'm waiting for tht day (there should be only one leader for one country).

Yes I too wish for peace for all the people. Don't think just because the LTTE no longer has any bases in the East that it is no longer involved. You seem to think that the problem is just the LTTE. you don't ask the question why did the LTTE rise up and continue to grow. LTTE is only a symptom of a deeper problem. And as for Hill Country Tamils they are treated so miserably. They do such important labor for the country but are paid so little and live in shanties. It is a disgrace.
