  • I have been teaching for over 25 years in Europe and Australia...and let me tell you she is very good. If she may feel unstable in her positions from time to time, allwas remember to direct your kime towards the ground, this will contract your abdomen working as 'stabilizer'. How old is she? I thought in her teen...a champion in the making! Just remember, if you sometime do not win, Karate is not about winning, but about not to loose. Congatulations

  • @karatesensei100 Thank you very much, sensei, especially taking the time to share your wisdom. Very much appreciated. This clip was when she was in junior high school. She is a senior in highschool but needs to take a "break" to study for a year for her college entrance exam. I've posted other videos of her during her last two high school years, her last being blessed from winning the championship last year in Kyushu Japan. I wish you and your dojo a beautiful success in the karate way.

  • beautiful girl

  • What kind of karate is this? Is she a professional?

  • What is "kata"?

  • @socal1982

Sorry for delay. It is called CHATAN YARA KUSANKU.

  • @socal1982

Sorry for delay. It is called CHATAN YARA KUSANKU. She is no professional but karate has been part of almost all of her life, starting at elementary 1st grade until senior high school.

  • really cool you don't see many who can get that low and not struggle.

  • @toxi87 -- Thank you for your comment. In actuality, I didn't post it but on that night, Erika had practiced the "jump" about 50 times before she said she was ready. That's when I pulled out my cell and recorded this clip. (If I practiced even 5 times of that jump, I'd be in the hospital.)

  • @okinawastuff i know what ya mean sometimes just practiceing the jump in heian godan bought gets me lol.

  • Extremely nice performance, like this kata very much, but was different form what i train, may i know what style is she training?

  • very good performance, I see you are proud of your daughter's achievements and you should be. Thanks and please post more.

  • Sorry for the late reply and thank you. Erika was in a slump for a while and I think she's finally back on her feet. Sensei has her on lots of physical training and is now gearing up for one her toughest kata, super rimpei. If she can do well, I'll post. Thanks again and take care...

  • is this shotokan? cuz I need shito ryu

  • Hi,

This is not shotokan nor shito ryu. It's actually shorin ryu from either Naha or Shuri (southern part of the Okinawa island).

Sorry I couldn't help but thanks for your message.

    Take care...

  • Ohhhhh okie thx!

  • Pardon my ignorance, but I always thought that only shorei ryu came out of Naha. Am I mistaken, or have things changed over the years that I'm not aware of?

  • @deek77

Hi, you're correct. Shorin Ryu is from Naha and nothing has changed. My daughter's dojo is only located in the central part of the island. Have you been to Okinawa? Come on by. It's a beautiful island :-) Might as well do it during the summer. Take care.

  • Thanks for responding. No, haven't had the pleasure, but I'd love to visit it. Many blessings to you and your daughter.

  • Sensei Tanzadeh is one of the top active instructors from Shito Ryu,check his channel

  • Season greetings and all the best luck at forthcoming tournaments to lovely Erika!

  • Hi there! Many many thanks.

Next month, she is up for a Kyushu Tournament to compete in single & group kata as well as single & group kumite.

Please keep your fingers and toes crossed!

    Thanks again!

  • Wow, so your daughter prepare for the tournament huh. Good luck!

  • Thank you very much.

And many thanks to the support she received, the tournament went well. (I'll post that video some day soon.) She came in 1st Place, which took her to the All Japan tournament held in mainland Japan. Unfortunately, the competition was tough... but, she continues to do what she believes is best -- PRACTICE.

  • Really nice Kata! I like her timing. Her Father should be very proud. It's nice when you can watch a kata like that!

  • Yes, proud and thank you for your comments. I just wished I could be on YouTube myself! :-)

  • VERY good! By far one of the BEST.
