Amazing job. Duke is one of my favorite albums of all time and I can vividly remember a very long & frustrating night in the late 80's trying to emulate the electric piano sound Tony Banks uses on that album with my Roland JX-3P (was learning "Cul De-Sac" I think). Fast-forward 20+ years...bought Native Instruments' Kontakt sampler and a soundset called "Phaedra" and there it was. Closer than I was ever able to emulate.
amazingly played!! I always enjoy the video of genesis songs you do!! Your keyboard covers always have the right sounds and are always played properly!! Tony would be proud!!! I'm still learning how to do a few of them. I've mastered stuff like SHBTS and Slipperman (to name a few), but I've been trying to learn the lead from the In The Cage solo and its scaling the keyboard fast I'm trying to work on!! Tough solo!
As a fellow keyboardist, this feat of excellence BLEW ME AWAY!!! You are an AMAZING talent. I hope you can find work with other musicians who are up to your caliber. Best of luck!!!
This is amazing, actually you've recorded some of favorite prog synth solos, duke's end , soundchaser.. if by chance you are free I'd love to "hire you" for my next CD. BTW I may do a full cover of Gates of Delirium, you may be interested in this, i don't know. let me know ! thanks
YEAH!!!!!! The last truly GREAT Genesis album! The last one produced by David Hentschel, who I think got the best sound from them. You do it justice, James! Nice job!
this is just a joy to watch! "Duke" is one of my favorite Genesis albums! I'm going to post some Hackett/Genesis covers soon myself. Please keep treating us to these tunes man! Cheers from right here in the Lou...O'Fallon
AHH !! the last of the GREAT Tony Banks solos! Fantastic job ifly65! It's great to see/hear you have such an interest in the Genesis back when they were great!
Have any Mellotron samples to do any other tron heavy Genesis/Banks material ??
In my opinion the dramatic progression of the song and it's mood mark the worth of "Duke's Travels" more than the solo keys of Tony Banks (regarding the melodies, this sounds like a blend of "The Cinema Show" and "... In That Quiet Earth". However the man here does a good work, though I'm a bit disappointed that he doesn't play the arpeggios that (should) arise around 4:10.
Maybe someone with enough organisational skills could put together a Youtube Genesis tribute super-group! (I'll take 25% for the initial idea though.. ;-)
amazing cover, i always look at this song like tony banks's goodbye too keyboard soloing like he's saying "i'll give you one more but thats it" and he plays it like it's the last solo hell ever play really amazing keyboard part
I´m speechless!!! What a powerful, magnificient, epic, amazing you have done... Thank God there´s still people like you in this world... Music is a gift from Jehovah.
Thank you for the comments world wide! I do know Firth...what a great song. Its been a while since Ive played that one. You must be working on the piano intro? That is tough! Im not sure about my parts being correct on that one.
I cant imagine the time you put in to recreate the sound of the ARP Quadra let alone the time figuring out thos solos! Amazing what a fantastic job on a wonderful song!
As a guitarist I have never searched for a keyboard soloist .... I stubbled across you video ...... You really kick ass ... I really enjoyed your skills ..thanks
Man thanks NH34 and everyone. I have my days where I feel the same. Never quit trying...It took many months to prepare, then about 40 takes to video tape this song.
If this was your living, and you had nothing to do but practice it every day (for a paycheck!), it would NOT take you 40 takes! When you watch the film, you can see how hard Banks is concentrating; that's what it takes to NAIL IT, EVERY time! You rock!!
Fantastic! You wouldn't happen to live in Phoenix? I'm a fanatic Genesis drummer fiend, I play a lot more but they are my favorite, and I would sure like to find a keyboardist that can knock down Tony Banks that well. Most Excellent!
Thanks, I would love to jam...sorry, I live in St Louis. I am however willing to move for the next 'Australian Genesis' or a call from Mike Rutherford!
Bravo!
