Why is Jeff Mills allowed to get away with sloppy mixes? b/c of the depth of his catalogue and his talent as a producer. Fact is I am a better DJ than he is (and I'm nothing special) but I'm not behind Purpose Maker, Axis and haven't been released on Tresor and UR. He's a great producer, shitty DJ, but will still fill the dance floor and sell out the club worldwide. More DJs would have respect for him if worked on his technical skills or just stuck to producing.

Techno has and always will be about creating a rich and creative musical experience out of many different pieces of music. A techno DJ literally creates while performing while 99% of the world DJ's from other genres simply play songs. I love many genres including techno and can say bar none that the Jeff Mills', Ritchie Hawtin's, Adam Beyer's of the world pack in every show with true fans and lovers of music year after year for a reason.

I remember going to a party back in the mid-80's in Det that the Wizard (Jeff Mills) was spinning at. Very few people were actually dancing because we were all crowded around the table watching (dumbfounded) where he was mixing on 3 turntables. He mixed for WJLB 97.9 here in Detroit for many years. I still have a bunch of his mixed tapes. He was always considered one of the best DJ's in the D.

A lot of people seem to forget he plays 70 records per hour. Minor mistakes of sync are a side effect of this. He has also produced some of the most superb techno over the last 17 or more years. In addition he can bring half his discography into a set and make it work superbly. Doubters; bugger off. End of.

70 records per hour is true; he is more than capable of that - I heard him do a set at the Arena Club in Glasgow in '96 which followed his immortal Liquid Room set of '95 and you better believe it. The mixer looks like a Vestax PCV 275 (the one I have). Peace.
