I don't know if it has anything to do with that, but there is recent theory which is accepted as "really possible" by archaeologists.
The theory is that the earth is growing and not drifting... Don't remember the technical proof but some indirect proof would be
1. if you try to do a puzzle with all the continents, it perfectly fits.
