  • A stellar player to be sure! His style is quite the opposite of Martin Hayes who loves to strip the ornamentation and smoothly bow the tune to show the beauty of the raw melody. Kevin Burke is somewhere in between and will bow differently than almost anyone else because he usually starts and ends with an up bow. I happily share this affliction with my favourite fiddler. Liz Carroll is a phenom, she must be the relative or reincarnation of O'Carolan. She is a prolific composer of amazing tunes.

  • using the lower half of the bow means that he doesn't have to move his wrist as far to cross strings. It is monumentally more efficient in a piece where he is crossing strings almost constantly.

  • I don't think I have ever seen two Irish fiddlers bow the same tune the same way. Watch Liz Carroll or Kevin Burke who only usethe tip of the bow, Tommy Peoples who uses a bit more - then this example where Keane uses the bottom half. I don't think it has anything to do with what key the tune is in. He is playing from the bottom strings to the top!

  • Dazzling player! Notice how he mostly uses the bottom half of his bow.

  • @shankandbrisket I think that's because the tyune's in a high key.

  • Holy Smoke! His co-ordination's beyond belief! Heard him play like that once in the late 70s doing The Dublin Reel & Steampacket live in the Royal Festival Hall. Magic player. Thx k4hx1 :-)

  • Superb ---can't get better 5*****
