@pathfinder95626 Since cross pollination does not effect the current fruits, having them together is not an issue for that. The only issue is with pests and diseases, and that is not (from what I understand) an issue with proximity to each other as much as rotation so they are not always in the same patch of soil in the garden. That said, I still have difficulty "rotating" crops very much. For one or two years, I pretty much skipped cucurbits altogether, so that is another option.
Just found your channel, The garden looks great and I am looking forward to seeing how it goes. Really happy to see you growing sweet potatoes and okra that far north. That just is amazing.
@MrStepheninKY Thanks, yes and Sweet Potatoes as well as Okra do just fine up here in Central Jersey. My biggest problem is keeping the rodents out of the Sweet Potatoes, and keeping them stored long term... but they grow just fine!
Wow, your audience has grown....!! I am impressed!! Also, I loved the sweet potato illustration....amazing!! Your pumpkin patch is huge! Guess that goes with the hugeness potential of the residents!! Good luck with that!
love,
your sis, and one of your earliest and most devoted fans (along with my hubby)
@maryperkinsmorris Yes, I picked up a few new subscribers over the last couple of months. Kinda fun, and I try to reply to all comments as well. Yeah, I didn't exactly cut back this year. Since one of my "secondary" plants ended up producing the 550-lb pump, I decided it warranted some expansion. It was still a large task, but made doable thanks to the Deere with a front loader, and the "dump trailer" I purchased last year. We'll see if I have any luck!
@maryperkinsmorris P.S. June will mark 10 years of Garden Videos! Can you believe it? I made the first one in June of 2001 using our Mavica camera and recording to floppy disks!
Wow, what a great video. Very informative. The sweet potato shot was very interesting. Your dachshund are adorable. I've always wanted one, maybe one day.
@Ahbeeb Doxies are a fun breed, but as with all pups, you have to get good ones. Back problems can be heartbreaking, but I've done pretty well with all mine over the years.
Thanks for sharing Marvin! I enjoy your garden updates. I can't believe how far behind I am compared to you. Is there any things you would consider to be too late to plant at this point ? I haven't planted tomatoes, zucchini or peppers yet ugh !
@trentontrading As long as you are putting in seedlings it is not to late for tomatoes or peppers, but it's too late to start them from seed. Zuccs could even still be planted as seeds, but seedlings are better. Sometimes Tomatoes and peppers don't go into the open garden until June 1st around here, but my seedlings were so big I had to get them in the ground.
Really informative video, I enjoyed it very much. You have all the rain and down here in the south we have no rain. The plus side of this is I don't have to dig my boots out of the closet yet.
@HoschtonBoy Yeah, we could really use a stretch of dry, sunny weather. At least most everything is finally planted. With mostly raised beds, seedlings don't tend to drown, so that's good, too.
The garden looks fantastic!...I wish my garden was as big as yours..Where are you located???? I look forward to your updates throughout the growing season..feel free to check my garden out if you get a chance..Thanks and Happy Gardening!!
@flyguy1725 We are in central New Jersey, and SLOWLY getting to the warm and dry weather! Thanks for tuning in. You look like you are coming along just fine!
Hello Marvin, it is good to see you again. Your garden is looking fabulous, of course. :) You have alot going on. Thanks for sharing! Take care and God bless you and yours, Catfishchic
@catfishchic Thank you. I got a lot of work in during the last two weekends. And many thanks for the blessings, we certainly can use them... and the same to you and yours.
@cfenster I can't say that it does completely, but I do believe it helps lessen the attack. I haven't tried doing some with and some without to test the theory. But I figure it can't hurt, and it adds a little blooming color to the garden as well.

Great video! I have a question, is it a good ideal to plant cantaloupe, squash, pumpkins & water melon in the same area next to each other? Thanks

By planting several marigolds next to the pumpkin and squash plants does it keep the squash bugs off of them?
