  • I love his tenor voice singing, " I can love, I can really love" awesome lyrics and music

  • One of my favorite Neil Young tunes of all time. I love the music, hate the hippocrital politics though.

  • oh man please pardon the provocialism

but that's a chicago fire dept uniform shirt

    the guy's wearing

oh man i love the smell of smoke in the morning

    smells like ...

    some really good ganja (hopefully

no way house burning down smoke of course)

    & t/y for thet uber

  • Lose the "Monkey Jump" Neil!

  • OK, I'm going to pass a petition that everyone on Youtube stop ranking on those who vote in the negative. Do you really think everyone likes everything you like equally? Either you're really naive or just over reacting like some type of fanatic.

  • Oh hi, it's "when you dance i can really LOVE". what you have as the title sounds accidentally retarded :D i mean it's really funny. to explain, your title makes it sound like neil young can't dance, but when he sees this girl can dance, now he can dance too. NO... that is not what this song means, it is that when the girl dances, he falls in love. not "he starts dancing too".

  • @tinyvox Gesh, relax. The person made a human error. Don't need to crucify him. Not everyone can walk on water like you.

  • I really, really wonder what the one person that gave this a thumbs down considers good music?

  • @postrecommender Lady Ga Ga

  • 127 thumbs up and 1 thumb down. There is apparently one miserable soul out there who just doesn't get it.

  • this tune was on the album After The Gold Rush one of Neil's finest efforts

  • what a great tune .The melody ,words and sound on this vintage NY & CH song cannot be measured

    regards

    jimmy

  • An incredible faithful version of one of Neil's best songs. Go, Neil!!!

  • I'm a "grown ass woman" as they say but man does this take me back to the days of holing up in my closet , listening to this over and over...weed in hand. by note; recovering addict too but the music is still as sweet.

  • GREAT thanks for sharing!!

  • where the hell is the studio version??????!!!

  • @goofygoat2009 seriously man cant find it anywhere...

  • @sergeanddestroy1 i'm a girl..but thanks anyway!

  • @goofygoat2009 sorry 4 that

  • EX-PLODE

  • "epilepsy firm feel"

Young's electric solos are like epileptic fits.

  • Always funny to see old farts playing rock&roll, but this song is really more country that rocks...Booker T looks good....This one of Young's 10 best songs, which is saying something since he has so many numbers.

  • Who is the one stupid sonofabitch that doesn't like this song? Bring me that fucker's head on a goddamn spike!

  • Old Neil can still play fast but the song instructs for slightly undercooked short of al dente feel and epilepsy firm feel. The best version of this is the studio's After the Goldrush. A very strong record but sometime sloppy production but that works well on this song.

  • One of my all time Neil faves (and great to see Booker T - my dad went to high school w/ Cropper and Dunn of the MG's in Memphis...)

  • when you dance, i can really,,...ehm,....LOVE?? wrong title, mate!!

  • really annoying video cuts every 1/2 second.

  • really annoying video cuts, i hate that, just show Mr. Young playing the song.

  • a soft unique voice. but when it has to be thudded, hit it. it works for me.

  • Hey...you got the wrong name of the song listed here. It is 'When You Dance I Can Really Love' not Dance. Wanna fix it when you get a second? Excellent song!

  • Fucking gold from the king of ragged melody

  • Is that Booker T on the B3? Oh My! Very nice! Neil is the best

  • NEIL FUCKIN YOUNG!

  • Had great times with grat friends listening to his music, and getting a buzz on. Of course this was a long time ago!

  • @TheBeatlemaniac14 Yea, like 30 years ago for me! Seventeen years old.

  • If only the whole world were as wise as you there would be a lot fewer Celine Dion fans ; )...you can't be creative without being an independent thinker...probably..

  • Envisionwow, you are not following the line of inane conversation, please pay attention and look up the word facetious...but I do agree with you even though you don't like children..

  • Go Duck Dunn- also, wow does Frank look different

And, of course, Neil is God

  • lowspark68-that was a good one! : )

  • I never thought neil had so many retarded fans! Some of these posts are just so childish!

  • Is that Herbie on keyboards? he looks different than i tough he looked.

  • not herbie!

  • @wakawo,..Hate to be sitting next to YOU at a concert, mr. dourpuss ! You probably haven't danced since you dropped a brick on somebody ELSE'S foot..

  • Actually I danced so much at the wilco concert friday night I was told to sit down! Just so you have a little backgroung my comment was directed at lame unitelligent posts on this video made by children, not neil young fans that dance because thats me!

  • How can you call yourself a neil young fan when you hate children, neil young loves children..besides, you can't dance to wilco's music, that's why you were told to sit down...DER !

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • Bruce Springsteen on rhythym guitar has really put on weight...shake that fat ass, Brucie ; )...why do people have to age?...to make room for the children..like our ancestors before us..thanks, grandpa

  • This not Bruce Springsteen ..it is Frank Sampedro, Crazy Horse's Rhythm Guitar player..lol

  • I'm sorry, I meant Herbie Hancock... on electic piano, has really chunked up a little ; ) .And Bruce Cockburn on bass, omg, middle-age is a terrible thing...arrrgh ; }

  • THE TITLE OF THIS SONG IS, WHEN YOU DANCE I CAN REALLY LOVE! Not dance....geez...thanks for the post, great...but you don't know the name of the song you're posting?

  • Godfather of Grunge yea

  • WoW, Neil is the Genuine Thing !!!!!

  • it would be better if Crazy Horse was there!

  • You can always tell a Neil solo...CLASSIC!

  • neil gets magic out of that guitar...lots of people play faster (in fact, just about every 'new gun in town' ) but NOBODY plays hotter!!! Lotsa stars!

  • @chuckeisenhardt for sure, neil young's songs are easy to play but immposible to duplicate.

  • This is so cool! Always loved this song, and the fact everybody looks so "weathered" only adds...

  • Great electric guitar work on this song, its mostly his acoustic easy listening stuff the general public would be more familiar with but he is one hell of a rocker too, he's a brilliant guitar player and one of the best singer/song writers out there.

  • Great song . And the guy who said Crazy Horse is better than Booker T for any Neil Young song couldn't be any wiser. If you see Powderfinger on Live Rust, Billy Talbot and Neil harmonize in a grand way and Neil plays just wonderful guitar solos .. I have no idea how he does it but that puts this song in my all time list.

  • Don't care how he looks,,,,,,,,as long as he keeps on dancin.'

    Peace.

    Rock

  • the guys a genius no matter how he looks hes just superb

  • older neil looks better with a few pounds on him. he looks like skeleton man here, like dylan does.

  • Great song .. called when you dance I can really love (not really dance). Crazy Horse is better than Booker T for these kinds of song. Harmonizing is important and the interplay among long-time friends is cooler.

  • Great great great! Thanks for sharing. This is one of Neil Youngs best songs!

  • the muppit show!!!

  • Freaking great.

Never seen Neil electric; least I saw him do a solo acoustic one, back in '90.

  • I loved the band he had in 1989...they played "No More" and "Rockin' In The Free World" on SNL that fall...tore it up. Letterman's first drummer was in it...black dude....monster drummer.

  • I recorded him on SNL and have those two songs on a vhs tape. I need to transfer it to a digital file and upload it to youtube.

  • buh-zoink...

  • When / Where was this filmed? Is that Poncho on rhythm guitar? Jeez, looks like he was tucking into the chocolates. Who's on drums and keys?

  • Booker T on keys, maybe?

  • Steve Potts on drums and Booker T. on keys....Neil's wife and 1/2 sister on backing vocals.

  • Is that Duck Dunn on bass or should I clean my glasses?

  • Your glasses seem to be clean.

  • Go Poncho !

  • Love this song!! Good to see Neal performing it.

  • Oh my, you are a spacker aren't you? :)

  • Maybe .. but I looked at your stupid collection of videos typified by a happy very fat girl dancing to rap music and a guy punching a girl in the face .. funny stuff to you? You apparently have little taste and it's hard to believe you would even stumble on to good music as this is but you don't get it do you? Not one decent video in your collection of trash.

  • Sorry, but on this video I have not seen one decent comment from you. You're wasting your time, no one cares about what you have to say about atheism, music, or ANYTHING, so go crawl back into the hole you came from.

And as for my videos, they're funny, I like them, so I favourited them. Who are you to judge me because of that? Surely you should judge the people who posted the video in the first place?

  • I am not wasting my time - I met my current girlfriend from one of my blogs a year ago.

Your videos seem like the sort that demented teenagers who have been bullied or are bullies would like.

To say I should judge the people who made the unfunny sadistic videos you like is irrelevant and so far beyond the scope of my criticism of you .. you need to take a course in logic before you write again.

  • Sorry, the fact that you met your 'current girlfriend' (whether she exists or not) on the internet, says a lot about you.

By the way, this is Youtube, not a blog. Just in case you forgot.

  • You Tube is a blog .. for those who can multitask...

So I met my girlfriend on You Tube: what exactly does "it say about me"?

Probably your cravings for stupid sadistic cartoonist videos says a lot more about you...

Will you someday put a normal musical video in your bizarre collection? Do you actually like Neil Young at all? Because liking Neil is usually a sign of some depth and intelligence. Anyway, get your last shot in .. neither of us is very mature to be arguing anyway.

  • And I apologize for escalating this altercation .. you are entitled to like whatever you like and I shouldn't criticize you. You might be a nice guy and I am sorry I took any offense in the first place or judged you by your video collection. Good luck; I am sorry ..

  • I'm a girl.

  • And will the magets, many of them talented, stop doing so many Neil Young songs on YouTube - allow us to hear Neil not his imitators once in a freckin while.

  • But Mr Soul, Expecting to Fly (orchestrated beautifully), On the way home, and Do I have to come right out and say it?, I am a child, etc.. just show his amazing talent. How they could think back then that Steven Stills, probably a better overall musician, could ever write like Neil is beyond me. Steve's total solo CDs = 6 million, CSN = about 40 million, Neil young solo = 140 million. Of course he tried to get out of record contracts with lousy records. I mean Wilco does better country rock..

  • Badass drummer.

  • thank u!!! utube rockz!!!!!

  • Don't know where this gig was recorded but it is around 2002 or 2003 when he toured with Booker T Jones and Frank "Poncho" Sampedro to promote the 2002 album "Are You Passionate". I was lucky enough to attend the Brixton Academy gig for two reasons: 1) It was a fantastic gig. 2) The next night was cancelled due to Neil feeling unwell. "When You Dance....." was the opening song on that tour.

  • Anyone know where this was recorded?

  • The King!

  • Decade is a compilation of ten years of recording, so I guess it is safe to say you like the early stuff better ... but then you throw in Powderfinger (rightly, a great song). I'm inclined to agree as Everybody Knows this is Nowhere has never been equaled. Then out of nowhere a Spouse that has never liked NY starts playing Falling Off the Face of the Earth. Neil's a rare weed, can grow in a gilded pot.

  • Who is Leonard Skinner? 11z, YOU sir, are sofa king we ta did!

  • Skinner was some southern rock band who had a hit with "Sweet Home Alabama" (probably on You Tube) in the 70s and they refer to Neil Young in the song "southern man don't need him (neil) around anyhow" cause neil has written a couple of songs criticizing the south's treatment of blacks. Sofa king I am indeed except I dance to When you Dance...

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not 'Leonard Skinner.' By the way, Neil Young and Ronnie Van Zandt (Skynyrd front man) were good friends, the whole 'fued' was a private joke between them. In fact you can see Ronnie wearing a Neil shirt in some of their concert footage. Neil actually wrote 'Powderfinger' for Skynyrd.

  • They say Ronnie was buried in that shirt. Legend has it some freaks actually tried to dig up his grave to find out and/or steal the shirt!

  • Neil Young was god. This song is great.

  • past tense? Something happen to Neil?

  • Yeah, as most artists most of his later records were not nearly as good. My favs are his Buffulo Springfield and 5 CDs from 70s and then 2 or so for each decade on (including "Decade"). I can appreciate his experimentations but I don't necessary think it makes for great music. Favs are Mr Soul, Old Man, Powderfinger, One More Sign, etc.

  • Well Neil's early songs may seem more fresh and catchy than later ones but Neil Young, the performing artist, adds mindblowing dimensions to both old and new songs while on stage and takes his music to a higher ground. Without his experimentation this magic would probably not be possible. To make songs like he did and does and keep maturing and developing them goes way beyond anything comparable to 'most artists'. The man is the song and that song is of course not God but darn close to divine.

  • Yeah, but I don't really agree, I guess, his experimental stuff and country CDs and even "Are you Romantic" with Booker T and the MGs doesn't compare to his Buffalo Springfield CDs and his early records like Neil Young (eponymous), Everyone Knows.., Zuma, After the Goldrush, and of course Decade is fine esp the liner notes. There's a picture of neil on a boat liner too.

For some reason After the Goldrush made me his biggest fan with a much better version then this one .. of "When You Dance"

  • Sho nuff I can really love

  • ¡Neil, cómo se crea un grupo en Youtube ?

  • Excellent!!
