Has anyone else noticed how the SH sound has started replacing the standard S sound?
It's not a speech disability either, because the S is still also used.
Example...
"Shraight to the sea".
Although at first I heard it mainly by the type of person who enjoys 'SHtrictly Come Dancing', it now seems to be spreading like wildfire... especially amongst the young.
Thank you soooo much for this. I always had trouble as a kid with this sound and still do. I never mastered it with my speech teacher either. But I just did using this video! So thank you so much for this video it really helped me out! :)
I love the way you explain, you'r funny and an very exagerated but it's great, I feel like you are here right in front of me explaining me all those things and talking with me and it's cool!!!
Go on on this way of explaining sounds, you are, for me, an excelent teacher!!!
p.s: I'm a Teaching English student and I want to be like you when I'm a teacher!!!
A teacher is at the primary and secondary school levels. A professor is at the university level. Outside of the school context, use 'teacher' e.g. swim teacher, music teacher.
I'm spanish speaker and with your video I can improve my "sh" and "ch" sound including both languages English language and Spanish language. Thank you so much.
The 'sh' in 'mission' is a function of the 'ion.' 'ssion' will always sound this way. Words like 'ocean' are not common, but it's a function of the ending (cion, ssion, tion, and cean. All sound identical). With 'tissue' it is a function of the ssue ending, like 'issue' 'fissure' so look for the ue following ss. Also look for an ending of 'ture' which will produce a CH, and an ending of 'sure' which will produce a ZH.
I love your videos! They are so funny! I myself don't have problems with this particularly sound. But it is always a pleasure to watch your class. Excelent! Please, do it many more times if you can. Thank you!!!
