People who say nothing could be more exiting that a great goal has obviously never won a game because of a dramatic Pk save. As a fan getting a pk called against your team is usually just a longer version of an assured goal... but then your keeper comes out and save the pk then the rebound shot ..... The goalkeeper will try and look at the angle of the foot and the direction that the foot is coming from, but only has a small amount of time to this. They will get a brief look and from what they see they will just have to take their best guess. Also, sometimes a goal keeper can watch the players eyes if the player is not careful. Thats why sometimes you see players look at the ground right up until they hit the ball for a penalty, like Rooney does.

If you mean the last PK, no it wasn't. He went for the ball, but didn't make contact and knew it, so he grabbed the player to make him earn a goal via PK, rather then a wide open net. However, that really isn't a red in my mind, more of a yellow...but ya know what? End of the game, tied 2 - 2, he has a wide open net and is tripped up, it might be. Dunno.

But your intentions and what actually happened are two different things. Imagine a midfielder touching it past the defender as he's about to kick it. The defender whiffs and hits the midfielder, tripping him up. His intention wasn't to kick the midfielder, rather clear the ball. Its still a foul. Same thing happens here.

I'm still in high school, but i started as varsity keeper as a freshman, been keeping since I was 8, and have been looked at by some smaller colleges (as of last year, my sophomore year). I can tell you honestly I think this is a foul. It doesn't matter that the keeper didn't aim for him, the fact is the forward tripped in front of an empty goal, and appeared to be tripped up by the keeper. Its a foul.
