  • @MrSamHargreaves Of course live performances are better than film versions of plays and such like, but I have to say Linda Rondstadt's voice wasn't as good in the stage version as it was in the film (yes, I know it was all lip synced) but by the time film was made she'd had more time to work on the technique of singing opera. However, in this clip, who'd 'a thunk Kevin Kline to have had such a fabulous singing voice (having not heard it before seeing him in the film version).

  • I like when he duels with the conductor!

  • @canajaneh That's one of the many reasons this version's better than the movie.

  • I wanna be a pirate king yyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • Signature Penzance

  • That's funny, when he began swordfighting with the codnuctor...totally unexpected! Is that really Kevin Kline??

  • It's amazing just how versatile of a performer Kevin Kline is. Whether he's an eccentric inventor, Nick Bottom in a Midsummer's Night Dream, or everyone's personal favorite, the rambunctious Pirate King, he always does an amazing job.

  • I actually played the Pirate King in a production of this recently. I studied this scene as a template on how to act and move and it was an incredibly rewarding experience.

I love The Pirates of Penzance.

  • I just noticed how big Kevin Kline's hands are . . . ;D

  • And u know what they say about men with big hands.....

...they can properly hold a pirate sword lol ;-)

  • a great role

  • Go Kevin!!!

  • ok.....nice all i gotta say

  • Kevin Kline is awesome!

  • Kevin Kline is then, now, and forever the only Pirate king!

<3 you Kev! Hurrah for the Pirate king!

  • A hundred and twenty-nine years later and it still holds up! This performance is twenty-five years old, and there has never been a greater Pirate King than Kline!

  • Kevin Kline was quite a dashing fellow in his day. :)

  • lol, the king got in a fight with the conductor!

  • hes got the look...nice stauche

  • I wish my school would produce this show. But, from what I heard, they just can't see us doing it justice or something.

  • its tough to cast...you need good dancers for the police...you need an insane soprano for Mable...

    a high tenor for Fred...

a guy who can crazy fast for the General

and a guy like this or me for King...(check me vids)

  • if they ever made a parody of thins on spongebob this is who would play whom

    Spongebob-Frederick

    Sandy-Mabel

    Mr. Crabs-King

    Patrick-MJ

    Squidward-Samuel

    ?-Ruth

    Plankton-Sergent

  • Miss puff as ruth.

  • I also think that Plankton would make a better King than Crabs. And have squidward be the sergent

  • LOL.

And your mom could be Mabel.

  • why in the world would spongebob do Pirates?

the very concept of that disgusts

  • Quite a cool song, that! I love G&S!

  • I love this song, and I get to sing it as well in our school's production

  • I'm playing the Pirate King in our school's production of Pirates of Penzance ^.^

  • Cause It's a Sailor's and a Pirate's Life

    after All.

  • The Song of the Pirate King, Sounded like

"Sailing, sailing, over the bounding main"

  • "I am a Pirate King!"
