  • I surfed into your videos while looking for "In Christ Alone", and have been entranced all evening. I love the establishments and especially your "slides"

  • "Call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven" (Matt. 23:9).

  • @finnbarrhagan

the man who raised you was not your father. we all know that.

  • @Rao665 fuck off you mary worshiping poof... your a bunch of paedofiles... your granny sucks cocks in hell... ha-ha... finnbarr...

  • @finnbarrhagan

holy shit, how old are you? 13? I'm Agnostic you fucking jock.

learn to spell english you fuck. when you have nothing to reply with, you make assumptions that aren't even true. Bravo. and whats with puting your name at the end of your comment?...ha-ha...Rao

  • @Rao665 you wish i was13 you eedjit, i dont need to learn english, im not english, if your agnostic prove it... finnbarr...

  • @finnbarrhagan

eedjit huh. you sure as fuck need to learn english since that's the language of Youtube. and asking me to prove I'm Agnostic? a childish question. your 12 apparently. Sorry I got your age wrong. BTW we dont have scriptures to quote like your fuckass. Be original instead of copying others work. So quoting something to prove i'm agnostic? right. keep showing your ignorance.

  • @finnbarrhagan

  • 0:00 ----replay button

  • Our family priest used to read out the football scores during mass, and another I had (Father Foley) used to drink like a fish and tell fantastic stories.. both great men and they often gave cause to smile. And now here you are with your whistle playing. Well done Father, Keep it up!! Perhaps you'll emigrate down under one day and share some of that talent eh!

  • The song Salty Dog by Flogging Molly is based off of this!

  • This is the music that Catholics lead children away with.

  • @cowboyfromkettins seriously you prick

  • @teh117 haha dont think the children would say that

  • @rob FYI RyanDuns is a excellent whistle player, and he plays effortlessly. I can see how you made that mistake. You shouldn't judge and/or critique things you no nothing about.

  • @rob102938yt ha!. you have not a clue. he is absolutely playing this, and the fact that you don't know that means you haven't a musically talented bone in your body.

  • This is my fave of your songs/videos. I love the song! Thank you for sharing with all of us & encouraging the world to learn.

  • Cool! A priest playing tinwhistle! Epic win!:D

  • gr8 :)

  • Dedicated to God and to his own passion - playing! Every priest should be like you, father!

  • Go on Father !!! great stuff! great craic listen to ya!

  • @bohssleixlip not a priest.

  • The most amazing version i've ever heard of this!

  • are the music notes you have to the kesh jig the same as the version that you are playing? (the notes i got off tinwhistler.blogspot) you play this song so well!

  • waheeyye well done father!

  • Nice one. Any tips on a nice guitar part to go along with this one?

  • So this is what you do when not saying Mass?!

  • Hey Fr. Are you using reverb or is it the natural acoustics of the church?

  • So this is what the Priest does when he's not saying Mass...

  • I just bought my very first tin whistle.... damn I got a long way to go! but watching you play I know where I want to end up with it all - the talent, not the cloth ;)

  • You should play "The priest" next time ;)

  • @smedaas He already did. Try searching for "musical priest".

  • @magnusmarkling Not that one, I mean't "Is it the Priest You Want"

  • I should like to gain absolution from you :)

  • Great stuff Ryan, the Kesh one of my favourites!! (I only just noticed now - bet the society is very proud of your talents, excellent)

  • Excellent playing! Thanks for sharing!

Also enjoyed your lessons very much!

  • amazingly lovely! thank you.

do you know tabhair dom do lamh by any chance. if so id love to hear your arrangement of it!

  • +1 on that, i'd also love to hear tabhair dom do lámh!

  • That was really good! Thanks!

  • i love, nice work indeed, uplifting and great :)

  • Matt himself would approve, splendid!

  • Dominus tecum! Bella nota, mio Padre!

  • i truly love listening to you play thank you so much

  • This is really really good! The ornaments are so different all the time... Everything is just great!

  • Sorry Man - u are my IDOL

  • have these got anything to do with kesh co.Fermanagh ?

  • @SeanDL1 it is an irish tune, so it very likely was either named after the town of Kesh in county Fermanagh or it was written there.

  • I am so inspired to learn how to play because of you! What I want to know is how the other seminarians like you as their neighbor! I think is is awesome, I will keep you in my prayers as advent draws to a close!

    AMDG

  • Love it. All of them. Thanks for sharing.

  • listened to a bunch of Kesh Jigs on YouTube and yours is #1

  • Well done. The sound is good (just a little bit too much of reverb, but it's much better than the Cat's Meow)

  • i like it actually :-)

  • First jig i ever learned. :D:D:D

RyDns is my ultimate inspiration and guide, and a reason why i started to play whistle in the first place.

I espacially like those (mandatory) improvisations in the second passing, because they really give me something to think about, beside the basic tune.

Also, we should raise money to buy him HD or slo-mo camera, so we could actually slow down his finger movements to the rate that is comprehensible for human eye. :D:D:D

  • notice the nice language in the comments? TY priest.

  • Amazing Playing well done!

  • Nice song really, now if nobody has noticed before, sorry father but your playing is creating a nice echo, now unless you actually played this in your church or your living rooms dimensions are that of a grand deep cave, i would say that this instrument naturally should not create that sort of echo so i was wondering if it was edited or something, dont wanna be an ass just curious

  • Yes, I added the echo using software from iMovie.

  • @RyanDunsSJ I like the reverb.

  • grand.

  • If I may....can you do the Pennywhistle Jig? That has to be one of my very favorite tunes.

  • that is SO pretty :)

  • Fantastic playing.

  • what key is that in ?

  • Eb.

  • the whistlle is in Eb but i think the tune is in G major,, maybe im wrong :)

  • He asked for the pitch of the instrument.

  • ahh i see, ok no prob... didnt state that though..

  • Oh whoops, I guess I've answered multiple users asking that same question, one much earlier where the person was asking for the whistle pitch. So you were replying to my reply (lol..) to mattmitchell08's question, which didn't specify what was he talking about.

So anyway, in this case you're also right: Kesh Jig is in Gmaj.

  • lol ok no problem..

  • I am learning to play the bodhran and I love playing along to your tin whistle.

  • amazing performance, but why the echo?

  • im only a beginner but one day i want to play like u!!!

  • I must confess (hem..) that I've took your song to make my ring on cellular phone :D When my best friend call me, you play !

  • tá sé sin íontacht !

  • Go iontacht ar fad

  • You do amazing things with that little whistle there.

  • so talented man beautiful eyes reely handsome how can you be a priest ?!

  • what does him being a priest have anything to do with his looks or him being talented?

  • what key is it?

  • wow!...you are very talented!...i have played this song before but i know it as the Castle Jig.

  • FANTASTIC!!! im going to try and learn that one now!!! Thanks for a great wee tune!!!

  • Awesome traditional celtic sound. PRAISE THE SCOTTISH!!! GIVE THANKS TO THE SCOTISH BRAVEHEART WILLIAM WALLACE! I think that the Kesh Jig was actually in Breaveheart.

  • that sounds beautiful...and im it's namesake lol

  • you played with spirit and it was a delight to hear. wish i had it as an mp3

  • that is wicked man i cant wait to get that good!!how long u playin man?

  • He has been playing for over 20 years now, I think.

  • im sure the flogging mollys did a rock song with this melody

  • They did; they added lyrics, altered and extended the chord phrasing for the verses, added a completely new phrasing for the chorus and called Salty Dog.

  • cool

  • dude wich pitch of tinwhistle is that ?

  • E-flat.

  • Well done sir!

  • Very nice man !! Keep doing the good work Awesome!!

  • This is the first jig I ever learnt, and I've never been able to get around that halting double D at the end of the first part.... till now! Thanks.

  • Can you tell me what make and model of tin whistle you use? it's got a beautiful tone.

  • no way dude. Salty Dog--Flogging Molly

  • yep

  • this is a normal flaute ?

  • its not a flute its a tin whistle

  • Very nice indeed, Ryan.

    Super playing. !

  • God loves you even more after that one ;D

  • reminds me of Flogging Molly's song Salty Dog

  • Flogging Molly's song is based off of this tune.

  • Very awsome :) !

  • f-ing awesome, father? godspeed sir.

  • Very good! Is that whistle naturally in Ab or did you make some tuning adjustments?

  • Wow, the sound is really good. I wonder how you got it to record so nicely. It sounds like you're in a theater. Anyway, thanks for all the lessons, and your performances! Very inspiring. I wish you well!

  • Very good Father, I salute you from Buenos Aires, Argentina. All the best.

  • very clean sound! A great gift from the Lord.

  • My favorite jig.. and you posted it on my birthday :D

  • Nice work, Padre!

    -jcr

  • I've been trying to find sheet music for this for a recorder. I love the song so much :)

    You play so well :D

  • pinky, you can go to thesession(dot)org for tons of written music, however this style of music is often learned by ear.

  • wonderful!!!!

  • cool

  • Anyone know what key this is in?

  • "G" on the accordion, but i think thats a "D" wistle

  • it sounds a semitone higher than my D whistle so i guess its Eb??

  • Sorry, I don't know why, but I've just made a reply but it didn't appear. So I'm just making this again (if the earlier one suddenly appears, then just forget about reading this one).

It is. In another upload, Ryan Duns stated that he uses an O'Riordan top on a Generation nickel-plated Eb body. As some of his other videos are played using a D whistle, I guess it's then a Generation nickel-plated D body with the said top.

  • wooooooow! love you song!

  • well hello there ryan. you look good in your uniform. ha, well hope to see you soon. its brendan b.

  • this is hands down one of the best versions of this great song I've heard ever. and I've heard nearly two decades of this song

  • just great

  • nice triplets!!!

  • This is played very well...Another great tune!

  • The sound quality is really exceptional. Did you enhance it inn some way?

  • Hi Ryan.

I love your music and your online learning videos. You have a lot of musical and teaching talents. Just a little critic from a sound engineering perspective: please use a little less reverb. There's too much decay in the reverb.

Keep the videos coming! They're a great inspiration for aspiring whistlers such as myself!

  • That's interesting that you picked up on that, because I did, too... I can't help it. He just needs to turn it down a LITTLE, and it'll be about perfect!

  • Love you!!!!

  • how do you get that echoey sound? it is really cool..hope I can be this good

  • Dont mean to answer for Mr. Duns but I believe that it is a feature that you can turn on when recording

  • is that a dixon nickel trad?

  • Generation with an O'Riordan top.

Previous question: No, I haven't recorded a cd yet. One day!

  • Ah, from that angle it looks just like a dixon :)

  • I heard a CD advertised at Walgreen's that had that tune on it and I do believe that you played it better. Have you made any CD's?

  • Mighty playing Bravo,,

Your way on your way to being a great teacher
