this is really beautiful. i was looking for something by abbey simon, he came to our town and he was the first concert pianist i ever saw. also the pictures of gluck, chasins and simon are a nice touch at the end. ALSO i like the transcription showing at the same time as the music! thanks

Beautiful version. I had the luck to hear Abbey Simon give this as an encore in the 1980's. The Sgambati, by comparison, is a very good basic version, but most pianists feel the need to beef it up a little, otherwise it's a bit thin. Maybe the richness here loses some of the purity of the original, but played like this it's convincing.

Abbey Simon plays beautifully as always but I prefer Sgambati's and Rachmaninoff's transcriptions much better - this is too thick textured and over-harmonized, which goes against the serene spirit and poignant simplicity of the melody.
