That is exactly why I got out of Parelli - lip pulling - how disgusting!! Wouldn't you rather have him follow you at liberty w/o the lip pulling. Try Carolyn ResnIck's method or clicker training. I don't have to pull the tail, only stroke it and my horse will back up. Parelli wants to dominate, not lead the horse (big difference!)

Well, if you've seen my other videos (or even this video!) you'll notice that he does follow me quite nicely at liberty. This was a level-specific assessment; leading by the lip was a required task. I learned it for the assessment and never used it since; it's pretty pointless, imo. And I'm not sure this would qualify as "pulling" the tail - looks more like "holding" to me.

In any case, I'm glad you've had success with CR's program. Others I know like it too; but personally, I like PNH.

wow, you are realy good. im working on my level 1 in parelli! lol but my teacher does level two and three with me as well because im excelling realy well. how long has it taken you to get to level three?

That's the requirement: "lead the horse by the lip". If they're trained properly they'll respond to the slightest suggestion which means it doesn't hurt at all. No pulling or pinching or forcing -- just holding and walking.

These are Parelli Level 3 tasks. You have to do certain tasks in order and film them in order to pass a level. One of those tasks is leading by the lip. It's a requirement. If you want to pass, you have to do it. Just like you have to lead by the tail and the back legs. I think it's kinda pointless, but I wanted to pass the level, so I did it.

And while my horse may not look super excited - he isn't upset either. That's his "eh, whatever" face. He thinks it's kinda pointless too. =)
