  • It's illegal to play guitar as good as Kim Thayil 2:08

  • WHAT A MASTERPIECE !!!

  • he almost looks like scott weiland here lol

  • a gift saw them in 96

  • give me some of those drugs that kim thayill has been taking

  • Comment removed

  • kim keeps a low profile however, he never loss his touch search TADGARDEN to see him playing live

  • i guess the guy who normally works the lights had the night off?? looks like they were playing a show in my parents garage...

  • matt cameron is with pearl jam and kim has done lil things here and there. as far as ben idk

  • Ben's actually been pretty active in his own reclusive way. Check out a band called Hater, fronted by the man himself. also Mark Lanegan's solo album Field Songs

  • I guess Pearl Jam may look for another drummer for themselves again.

  • why is this?? Matt cameron is solid

  • Wonder what the other guys of SG are doing rite now? Chris is more or less in the lime-light but I cant remember hearing anything about Kim.

  • ALL ABOUT SOUNDGARDEN IS SO COOL

  • He looks pretty hammered, man.

  • love the live version. Hi Taylor!!!

  • kim you are a G-E-N-I-U-S!!

    thnks,Gwenwhyfer

  • Well you have to give him credit for singing his shit out in the 90`s. Especially in the late 80`s and early 90`s when he was amazing on stage, i mean, the notes he hit, he was like fucking Robert Plant-gone-brunette, and after that when they started touring Superunknown he`d actually had real trouble with his voice cos he was singing non stop, too much, so really between like 1994-1996 his voice was really tired and weak, but he got his shit together for Audioslave and just kicked ass.

  • I heard he had damaged his vocal cords after the badmotorfinger tour, still awesome though

  • So he did nothing between SG and Audioslave?

    Wrong.

    Euphoria Morning was great vocally.

He didn't get his shit together for Audioslave. He spread it out. Audioslave was a vocal and musical shadow of Soundgarden. It was too clean, radio-friendly, and straightforward.

  • Chris Cornell is one of the best rock vocalists ever. He's certainly sounded better than some of his mid 90's performances where he was drinking whiskey & smoking heavily. Superunknown was his best album vocally with Soundgarden. The first Audioslave album was his best album vocally period. You got through a maturity as a vocalist & chances are he'll never be better than he was on that album. We'll see what this solo album sounds like with Timbaland, I have a feeling it's gonna suck donkey.

  • oh, but it does. i'm almost embarrassed to say i like chris cornell now

  • Yah I figured that out like an hour after I posted that thanks for the update there pony express.

& don't be embarrassed cuz his next album rock when he figures out no one wants to listen to his laming.

  • i'm not literally embarrassed though. the soundgarden music is still out there. audioslave was good too

  • Actually you're super wrong.

The best thing Cornell did vocally was Badmotorfinger.

Audioslave and Cornell's best vocals shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence.

He was a shadow of himself with Audioslave.

He didn't have his range, power, or control. He had his rasp, grit, and radio-friendliness.

Audioslave itself is too straightforward and radio friendly.

Soundgarden had so many different elements and had succeeded in capturing their live sound in the studio.

  • well said

  • nah temple of the dog was him in his prime

  • True

  • fuck naw

  • nope

  • I don't know, Temple of the Dog was pretty spectacular, not to say that Badmotorfinger is not a great vocal album by any means.

  • WTF dude !!!! I wish I can hear you singing Slaves and Bulldozers !!! are you fucking out of your mind or u're a poser !! WTF man !!

  • @huevason Did I say that Badmotorfinger is a bad vocal record? Please try to read the comments before you go all apeshit

  • Double negatives are pretty advanced I suppose

  • @JoeSidhu what's the issue with straightforwardness and radio-friendly music? I definitely agree that SG was way more complex and rich in so many aspects than Audioslave was, but I still think it was one of the greatest acts of the last decade. As far as vocals, it's definitely true that Cornell's worst time was while with Audioslave, specially during live performances.

  • @JoeSidhu You're right. Badmotorfinger is the best or Cornell and Soundgarden as a whole. Sadly, Thayil fucked up my favorite track "Room a Thousand years Wide" by squealing his guitar through the verses. FUCK! Why did he do that?!? Didn't they realize on playback how bad it sounded?? Same thing on "Searching With My Good Eye Closed." If I owned the world I would make them remaster them without the fucking squealy guitar track. Fucker.

  • @itchittyitch Dude, you are the first person I've heard say that, and I couldn't agree more. That has been driving me crazy for years! An absolutely STELLAR song; why Kim, Why?!!!

  • @itchittyitch FUCK YOU. SOUNDGARDEN PLAYS WHAT THEY WANT YOU BITCH. LIKE IT OR GO SHIT IN YOUR HAT.

  • @jfoley715 Ow. I'm hurt. You hurt me. I'm reeling. Stop. You're overwhelming me with intelligence. Ouch. I'm powerless against your command of the language. You've insulted me while at the same time put me in my place. I am defeated by your capitalization. I'm down and may never get back up. Where's my hat? I must shit in it so jfoley can eat it with an ice cream scoop. Damn! Why didn't I just like the song as it was?? Why did I think I could have an opinion of my own? I'll never comment again.

  • @itchittyitch Good. How can you say a song is your favorite if you don't like every part of it? How can a person who wrote their own part mess up their own song? Just think about what you said and realize that you MUST be stupid. I'm glad I put you in your place and that you admit defeat. :)

Your opinion is shit, it comes from the port-a-potty that is your brain.

  • @JoeSidhu

    Damn right.

  • @JoeSidhu You have described exactly how I feel about Audioslave. I had super high expectations of that band back then when it was just a rumor.

  • @JoeSidhu I agree, but would take it a step further and say his vocal peak was around Louder Than Love and Screaming Life, though some of the songs might not be as tight or accessible.

It's hard to beat his vocals on Beyond The Wheel, Back Rain and Nothing to say; the range!

  • @JoeSidhu Yes I agree, but you're a choade (and super wrong) for saying his best vocals were on Badmotorfinger... He was amazing on all Soundgarden's albums, and that is a fact. Even in the new single he had obviously been working on his voice because he sounds much better than he did in Audioslave. Again, you are correct in that one aspect; but either way, he blows you out of the water no matter what Mr. wannabe music critic... *eyeroll* Best work was on Badmotorfinger... get the fuck out.

  • @JoeSidhu Cornell during the Audioslave era has some VERY powerful notes (just that they're not 5th octave, like he usually sings, but mid/upper 4th octave). It's true his voice got very raspy, but his voice was (and still is) amazingly powerful.

  • well this is when he sang his voice out, right cause this is when they broke up. And then he recovered to an extent but adapted his signature lower tone he used in audioslave comin back with an almost totally diff voice lol. in his 1999.. solo album then the he slaved it up, now he has something like a barrier where he yells and he maxes out at this gritty scream. no1 beats chris now.

  • Damn I was only 16 old at this show..thanx for posting this. Damn I miss Soundgarden :(

  • Kim is amazing! So grungy

  • i saw this tour in my town ! tanku

  • I fucking love this song.

  • His voice definitely was not Audioslave style at this time.

His voice was only a little bit weak during this tour. He was pretty tired.

His voice was no where near Audioslave at this time. That would take place somwhere between 2000 and 2002.

  • i feel for cornell right here, prob at the end of a long night of screaming and his voice is cooked, trying to hold it together for the fans though. mere humans, we would be hacking up our vocal chords by the end of the night

  • ya, his singing is flat as balls

  • I love Cornell, I really do. but it's surprising how often he sings flat. it's quite a fair bit too I'm sad to say.

  • I saw Audioslave when they were promoting Out of Exile and it didn't sound that great. However, I have been to two of his solo concerts since Audioslave broke up and it sounded better than the record(s). Not only was he perfectly in key, but he hit every note.

  • I'm having trouble finding the remix of this.. :(

  • Look on eBay. It's on the Ty Cobb single. Sometimes Amazon "used" has it too.

  • Oh dude cheers!

  • Soundgarden simply rocks!!! A group of talented geniuses.

Matt Cameron is seriously underated - drumming for two of the Greatest bands of All Time - SOUNDGARDEN AND PEARL JAM.

    CHRIS CORNELL IS GOD

  • kim thaylil is so underrated

  • Kim ben and matt are all very underated...they were so skilled, yet always fit together beautifully....thats why soundgarden is the greatest band of all time!

  • agreed 100%

  • well actally he slipped onto the 100 Greatest guitarist of all time....so he actally is great

  • Wow, awesome!

I recently just listened to this song, like a week ago, and ever since I can't stop listening to it. Cornell isn't bad in this performance, but Rick is definitely right, he has a little bit of that Audioslave sound.

    Great song though.

  • cornell has already the audioslave voice style, i wish cornell play his guitar in this song, i love the way it sounds in the cd, great band

  • You are the Monarch! I haven't heard a live version of this song since I saw the 'Garden on Cornell's birthday in 96. Thanks for sharing a little piece of lesser known Soundgarden.

  • No Problem! I think I have one more live version of this song someplace...the quality might not be as good as this one.
