I'm having some problems with my sweeps, every time I pull my fingers off the strings when needed to hit the next note, they sound the open strings, so my sweeps sounds awful because of the open strings ringing, can you help?

@BMBsWhyNot To simplify it a bit: Mute the lower strings than the string you play with your right hand, and the higher strings than the string you are on with your left hand... Sorry for bad use of english, but tried to be clear with my point (maybe I wasnt... :S)

@BMBsWhyNot All you need to do is slow down your playing and work out which finger/part of your hand should be muting what as you play. At any point in time only one string should be able to resonate. You can do it dude, practice hard ;-)

@MuffinWithAnAxe havent played much with a strat have you? if you experiment with neck and mid pickups especially, and play around with tone/vol you can get a reaaaally nice smooth tone.

@aektzis91 Imo all the smooth tones sound a bit empty and lack good definition. What I actually meant though was you get a lot of pick attack so you dont get a smooth smooth sound, unless you are on the neck pickup with often sounds too muddy distorted for my tastes. Although Eric Johnson gets a great tone out of a strat... although he is a legend so I guess that doesnt count haha.

Ive been working on the sweep part from the gerryc version of cannon rock,but the tabs i have ( guitar pro version) the sweep doesnt seem humanely playable,at least not at anything like the speeds needed for it to sound normal. Anyone else figure out a way to play it ? Its the slide in the middle and the extra notes (far away) at the beginning and the end that are doing my head(and my hands) in

Well I have been playing pro for 4 years now, altogether for about 16 years now :-) Sweeping is just like everything else, take it really slow and pay attention to detail. I am bringing out a DVD in Feb covering sweep picking, subscribe and you'll see a sample of it soon.
