The English Electric Lightning's time to FL 360 in re-heat was 2.5 minutes. In this respect ,decades later, the Eagle produces a similar figure, though this will vary depending upon its configuration. The Lightning prototpe (P1) first flew in 1954.
WOW!!!!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT!!! THAT'S FREAKIN' AWSOME!!!!!! Nothing like the smell of jet fuel in the morning! JET NOISE! THE SOUND OF FREEDOM! Thank You SO much!
@rednoseroxy Wow man, your comment took me off guard...didn't expect to read such a positive comment on here. Im 30 and wish like hell I could go back and join the Air Force right out of high school,oh well maybe the next time around right?,Anyway great comment its very refreshing to read ones like that.
F-15s used to take off from Lamber Field in St. Louis and do what they called the "Viking Departure"...it seemed like they only went about 1/3 down the runway and then went straight up! The best way to free the field for the commercial traffic and a damned fine way to spend a Sunday morning at the observation area.
yea i see your point jjjazzycraig, we should not let them train at all! that way, wheh the shit hits the fan and they need to do manuevers like, o, say....climb to 40 k to intercept inbounds...it'll be a new experience for them....jackass...grow a couple brain cells will ya
i also like to flightsim jj....but im certainly not dumb enough to think that makes me "qualified" to fly any aircraft...stay in your basement dude, you are far to stupid to be out in the world....
@jeepnutnh you have no idea the military protocol and training excersises involved with getting ready for combat so how about you just keep your mouth shut so you dont keep looking like a total idiot. i work on them and i know their protocol. and the 4 likes well they are morons too for being un- educated before you speak.
Why would you want to replace it ?? The thing still kicks the arse of all that threatens it..... Ohh and the Strike Eagle is still a fairly new bird...
the life cycle of the airframe for one...and you want something on the drawing board for not today or tomorrow, but ten years down the road...we are too broke to even dream.
You better get used to it sunshine coz these aircraft are due to stay in service and DOMINATE till at least 2025 !!!!!!!!!!... As for airframe life , where is your stats to back up your claims that its too 'OLD' , wanna look up the history of the B-52 buddy , last 1 rolled off the production line in 1961 and it isnt due to be withdrawn from service till at least 2040 !!!!!!!!!! Why ??? Because nothing can do what it does....... Just like the F-15 , nothing can match it at what it does......
SU-27 only has an initial rate of climb greater than the F-15 but cannot climb vertically to 50000' like the F-15 can due to poor airflow into the air intakes
SU-27 has a maximum ceiling altitude of 62500' , F-15 is classified above 60000' so it's really anybodies guess....... The SU-27 however will NOT climb vertical beyond 39000'........ The F-15 CAN climb vertical to 50000' in roughly 1:15.......
It is not a guess. the Flanker holds the record, smashing the F-15's vertical climb record. 12,000m in 58.1 sec, and 15,000m in 81.7 sec. I don't know where the idea came from that the Flanker will not climb vertical that far
with the burners on that is. Problem being, the fuels gone in something like 15 minutes or less at full burner. Kind of like the fastest car in the world, the Veyron, which can do 250mph, but the gas is gone in 15 minutes, which is good, because the tires would delaminate after 20 minutes
swedishvovlo, there is no such thing as someone who flys an f-15... the f-15 is banned from flying, its to old. But the F-22, dude thats the real shit. =D
I know what you meant dipshit. USAF currently operates around 600 of the things on active duty - and will do so until about 2025. Japan, Israel and Saudi are all still operating the F15 also. So, who's the jackass you tit?
F-15's are cool.

I LOVE doing that in flight sim...the f15 I have is the only one (i have) that doesn't lose airspeed when maintaining vertical!!
mayorlondon 3 years ago
Well it should.
3IDLukeK 3 years ago
not really, it'll lose acceleration not speed :P
StLucifer85 3 years ago
Actually.. With a light load, the F-15 has greater than 1-1 thrust ratio, so it should maintain airspeed while climbing vertically.
acdcgreat 2 years ago
untill 8k feet then it will lose all that power

Didn't know that.. ;D

Sorry, actually im wrong, it shouldn't lost airspeed going 90 degrees nose up, for a little, then the air gets thinner and it loses power
