Christa Ludwig, the great German operatic mezzo, in an interview that is on YT, singles out Bernstein as a genius.

As for WSS I saw the stage play in London in 1960 with the original Broadway cast (Chita Rivera). Best thing I ever saw. We've watched the movie on DVD countless times.

I have read that Leonard Bernstein composed the music from West Side Story and Candide at the same time. The biography mentioned that he would change his mind, and put a piece of music in the other play. Then the lyrics would be changed too. Perhaps he could have written the Finale for West Side Story, then changed his mind. I used it because I thought the music was beautiful, and very tribute like. Plus a few more people would discover this beautiful Finale.

West Side Story is a MASTERPIECE and your tribute to Berstein is Wonderful. I love the visual, you have captured the essence of the show. I love the music...America and Candide. At least a 100 STARS and right to my favorites.

The music from Candide was a beautiful exciting find for me even though it is not from West Side Story. Bernstein apparently wrote the music for both plays at the same time, and would sometimes switch the music and change the lyrics, and put it in the other play. Perhaps that is why the Candide music goes reasonably well with the pictures. I think that the Candide music was both sweet and very dramatic.

In a 2011, I think it will be fifty years for the movie, Now for Broadway, it probably has been fifty years. Makes me feel old. I plan to use other Bernstein music in other videos, not necessarily with a West Side Story theme. Thank you for viewing this.
