I wonder how many of these "sluts" were raped? I rember a case in Italy where one of the leading politians said that a woman, a particular one in this case about 10 years ago, deserved to be raped because she was wearing jeans.

about Italy, it wasn't so much that the woman deserved to be raped, the argument was her jeans were to tight that she must have assisted in their removal and so the sex was consensual not forced. Let's not ignore the fact that the teachings of Islam in the Qur'an and the Hadiths give theological justification for misogyny and the subjugation of women. I don't think women are trying to be superior to men. We are still struggling for equal rights here in America. I still make less than my male co-workers even though I work the hardest and longest hours. The reason I've been told they get more is because they expect it because that's the wages they earned at other jobs in the same field. They get more respect too for the title.

I already knew an Iranian immigrant to the USA who had converted into Christianity. Let's not ignore the fact that the teachings of Islam in the Qur'an and the Hadiths give theological justification for misogyny and the subjugation of women. Maybe you subscribe to a modern, sensible strain of Islam which chooses not to interpret these teachings this way. I've read on another apologist's page an alternate translation which reads "beat". Your assertion that the verse means something entirely different from what it states is wholly unconvincing.
And anyway, in civilized cultures disputes are settled with the man and woman on a level playing field, with both sides airing their grievances and coming mutually to a conclusion. Men are not given special privileges to punish the other for disagreeing with them. That's misogyny.

I challenged you to come up with an alternate explanation, but you haven't complied. And you'll find that Al-Beshir (nevermind his army of officers oppressing tens of thousands of women) is only one example among a whole culture of misogynistic men across different countries, all predominantly one religion. If you want to defend the legacy of your culture, then you'll look into these claims and examine what really is the cause of this endemic abuse of women.

Islam teaches that the "problem" of sexual desire is women's for being "indecent", not men's for failing to control their desires. The Qur'an teaches that men were made weak in this regard by Allah, making the sinister implication that infidelity therefore is the result of women taking advantage of men's weak minds. This is a perverse and, honestly, emasculating philosophy. Muslim men who think this way should learn to take responsibility for themselves, rather than abusing and oppressing women.

It's no surprise that if men are in charge, then it's men who decide what's proper and what isn't. No men are jailed for wearing pants, or for not covering their hair. Why is this double standard acceptable primarily in Muslim countries and not western ones? Which would you assess as a better place to live? About men being in charge, Islam doesn't privilege men in that aspect. Men as well as women can be Leaders.
About the pants issue Honestly wearing Proper pants should not be subject to persecution since it can fall under Hijab: showing modesty.

Am I to understand then that you believe that those wearing pants which are "improper" (as decided arbitrarily by men, probably) can rightfully be subject to persecution? What reason do you have for this, and why is it a just reason? At the same time, please explain why there are not tens of thousands of men being arrested for immodesty. Are women that much less virtuous as men? Or is this a misogynistic society, and if so, once again, I ask, why?

About the pants, clothes in general, it is not arbritrarly decided, a basic description so as to be adapted to diff cultures, social statues and personal preferance, of how they are to be, to fit islamic standard is in the Quran.

I don't think women are trying to be superior to men. We are still struggling for equal rights here in America. I still make less than my male co-workers even though I work the hardest and longest hours. The reason I've been told they get more is because they expect it because that's the wages they earned at other jobs in the same field. They get more respect too for the title.

Well, if they are a private company I can't really suggest that we should make laws dictating that women and men get the same pay no matter what. That could lead to some big problems. For a government position, yeah I think they should be paid the same.
Either way, I think the Western World is the prime example of how giving women equal rights leads to a healthy and prosperous society. You all need to encourage these Muslim women to have their own suffrage type movement.

It's like the priority of belief affects the outcome of judgement. Rape is rape, crime is crime: if someone commits something, they cannot lay the blame on temptation, which begs the question:
Are men in islamic countries so sexually pent up that the sight of a woman hair makes them think of rape? and because women are treated as 2nd class citizens, does that mean any man can take that which must be offered.
On a psychological level, islam has a massive fear of women.

There might very well be some truth in what you discuss. The same fear in a lesser extent is found in all monotheistic religions and without (to my knowledge) an exception the more literal, dogmatic and orthodox the faith, the higher the fear of women.
In my country of birth Finland the Lutheran Church (a very liberal by comparison to most) accepted that women can be priests in the year 1986 which resulted in a bunch of conservatives to branch off.

Islam seems pretty civilized to me, they give men that rape one month in prison. It seems like a fairly balanced justice system. I know I would be more traumatized by seeing a woman wearing pants than being raped.
