P2P video streaming is available for some time on the market. But all of them have some flaws or are not free. The examples are Sopcast and Octoshape.
Good to see BitTorrent team is working on their implementation.
Also uTorrent team reported they are working on the same thing.
This looks fantastic!! This will revolutionise live streaming for everyone regardless of how many people you stream out to!
I imagine Youtube/Google will also be keen on this with their live streaming projects. I hope big vid companies don't just steal code from this and try and make their own versions forcing users to install multiple versions of software that do the same thing.
@MicroHive , still this frees people to choose this lower-cost option, where they don't have to fund the entire broadcast themselves. I think for free, people will accept a few seconds delay.
The problem I see with this is that while it's great on a LAN, it's going to be pretty useless in the asymmetric world of home internet use, where upload speeds and volumes are capped pretty low, precisely to keep internet control in the hands of a few.
@rg0057, well, I was referring to the P2P's superiority in delay.
The P2P protocols are a proof that it is possible to rapidly share media files among users if only the caps weren't so obscure. Though initially I wouldn't be surprised if this type of broadcasting would be dominated by low to medium quality broadcasting. But I'm hoping that eventually the amount of data that can travel through the cables will eventually allow high quality broadcasting.

>not bad, but what is the actual use for it?
The actual uses are:
1) unloading video-hosting and video-streaming servers (cause video will be downloaded from other users too);
2) instant video watching from torrent clients;
Also it is adding more freedom to content distribution and there is a possibility to create distributed video storages.

@rg0057 (by free, I should have said "low cost"... I'm thinking of bandwidth, not software)
