@greenchick I'm not sure about that. I'm inclined to say no. Preservatives will make it last longer, alcohol will and so will vitamin E. It's better to make a small batch and use it up quickly rather than to use old products. The fresher the better.
just a little FYI= you should use this at night only if you are using the lavender oil. There has been some research showing it can, potentially, make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Also, if you do use the lavender oil, you should put a sun screen on every morning (which you should be doing anyways to prevent wrinkles and sun spots).
Do you think I'd be able to use the milky water from oatmeal in place of the rice water? I'm just curious because I've heard that oatmeal is good for your skin.
@darknessblue228 It'll probably work just fine as well. Oats are good for calming irritated skin. e.g. acne, eczema, rashes, etc. The benefits from rice is different from oats but they're both good for the skin :)
i've been using this for a few days now, the only thing i left out was the lavender oil. there's been a noticeable difference in my skin already. i also had these pesky breakouts and scaring on the base of my neck and upper shoulders. i put this on it morning and night and after a few days they have greatly diminished. i can't believe it. thanks so much for this recipe. it's helped me a lot.
@27vampyr I personally would continue to use it if it isn't troublesome for your skin. There are some ingredients in some products that are potentially very irritating/drying to some people and they haven't caused me any harm, so I still use them. :)
Lavender Oil: there is no research showing it has any benefit for skin (Sources: Phytotherapy Research, June 2002, pages 301–308). It can be a skin irritant but there is a conflicting research on just how much of a photosensitizer lavender can be.
@MissaMUA I never saw any positive benefits for scars even though that's what some people believe it helps. But it is an antiseptic. All essential oils are potentially harmful for sensitive skin. And if photosensitivity is a concern for you, you use it at night. I never use it for the day.
@schang02 Rice skin care products are good for everyone's skin :) I don't recommend using it over makeup because the essential oils can definitely mess it up. Usually those sprays have glycerin or siliicones. This is mostly water and oil, which are very bad for makeup in terms of staying power.
Argh I'm too busy and lazy 2 make my own toner. I use one from Elizabeth Arden thats supposed 2 be hydrating, but it still makes my skin dryer! If anyone uses a toner that is not drying, please let me know :) I'm talking about those sold at stores, not DIY sort, cos I'm super busy :(
@killerchipmunkattack I can't recommend a particular brand because I'm not sure what you have available, but I recommend finding a toner that has hyaluronic acid.
@nicoleanca nope. You can use whatever oils you want as long as they're essential oils. It's just that I like to use those particular ones because they're good for acne.
@OhKristinx thanks so much :) glad you liked it. I'm using it right now except with lavender, tea tree, oregano and grapefruit oils. Same base though.
Thank you! Finally someone who is actually informative. I've watched several "Make your own toner" videos and not one person in them informs you as to how long you should use the toner. I wasn't sure before how long a homemade toner would last. Thanks :)
@MinorMisfits aw thanks for the sweet compliment. Usually the toner changes colour and that's a good indication that it's no longer good. Though, nothing bad will necessarily happen if you continue to use it - it just won't be as effective I don't think.
@truelovewaits23 thanks a bunch! If you tend to have oily skin, I suggest using less of the rice solution. You can do without it completely or just use less and more green tea.
I LOVE herbs and all natural things! so I think this is going to work awesome for me!

I read in a magazine and in various sites online that rice water is mattifying therefore very good for oily skin?
Also would you recommend using your home made toner over make up?
