a hurricane is the name given to a tropical cyclone which is located above equator and also goes by the names typhoon, tropical storm, monsoon or just plain 'cyclone' depending on size and strength. A Hurricane IS ALWAYS a cyclone but a cyclone IS NOT always a hurricane. also supercells are a type of cyclonic system called a mesocyclone.
Hurricane=Atlantic basin.Cyclone=Pacific basin below the equator and Typhoon=Pacific basin north of the equator all of these are the same just different names in different region's and tornado's can be found within all three.
A baby compared to the f4's and 5's here in the U.S.I've been through 6 major hurricanes and have had a tornado pull my car sideways at 1:00 a.m.besides seeing 2 in the daylight;fascinating weather phenomena, dangerous, scary, tantalizing.
Perth and Area's to the east have been getting a few of these lately. Massive area's of tree's knocked down in swan valley 3 weeks ago, from toodyay and in a line virtually to brookton there are large area's of tree's knocked down 100's m wide by km's in length. Not good
Would really like to know where this is. It seems that Victoria is the state most affected by cyclones, only every now and then, nothing like Tornado valley in USA. I remember a few years ago, on second thoughts more than 5 years ago, a cyclone ripped through North Dandenong and Noble Park (suburban areas of Melbourne). My parents had to have to get a new garage door because of it.
@3690Anmari Oops, tornado alley, not valley ( had a few wines in me at the time of writing, plus i have the hiccups. Is that like having a tornado in your tummy?)
@aaalexishhh "Tornadoes occur more commonly in Victoria than most people would expect. The Bureau of Meteorology's severe thunderstorm database for Victoria has 160 tornado reports dating from 1918. It is most likely that many tornadoes have gone unsighted or unreported. Tornadoes range in size from a few tens of metres across, up to around one kilometre in diameter. Because of this, damage is normally restricted to a small area, but is very intense."
@aaalexishhh well excuse me for making a simple mistake. Looking at my initial post i think it is obvious that it was a simple mistake. And you felt the need to take me to task for it. Get a life. kthanks, bye.
They get a lot of tornadoes in au, it's just that most areas are very sparsely populated so they may not get reported.
You can tell this is a south hemisphere storm since the cloud of debris is rotating in the CLOCKWISE direction. Very strong tornado also (you can see the multiple vortex structure)
@ScepticVideos You are 100% right. If it's in the northern hemisphere and spinning clockwise, it's anti-cyclonic. If it's in the southern hemisphere and spinning counter-clockwise it's cyclonic. But it only happens 0.5% of the time.
@iflavhs You are an ignorant person if you really believe that. Australia gets hundred of tornadoes per year. For goodness sake, enlighten yourself by going to the Bureau of Meteorology's website and typing in "tornado" into their search engine.
@iflavhs Since most areas of Australia are uninhabited it's hard to know exactly how many we get, however, based on spatial and temporal frequency of the ones that ARE recorded, it can easily be extrapolated that we get hundreds of them per year. In fact Australia gets the most tornadoes per year after the United States. I wish to God people would enlighten themselves (such as via the Bureau of Meteorology's website) before spouting out nonsense about the rarity of Australian tornadoes.
Maybe I should stick to talking to the guys posting here,( most of ya )! Tornados happen EVERYWHERE. Thank you good people from OZ for showing this CLEAR MULTI- VORTEX ( and "seemingly" mild ) TORNADO. Not "cyclone", not "typhoon", not "hurricane". JUST A DAMN TORNADO. I'm not a chaser ( I wish ), but I have seen Two ( minor ) with my own eyes as a child in Georgia (USA).
@iflavhs we have a couple every winter here in the South West of Western Australia and they do make the news so check your facts you retard. Australia has dozens of Tornados every year but due to the sparce population many go undocumented ( not filmed ) as they hit unpopulated areas.
i was in the pocono mts USA visiting and right like not far away a tornado hit on 31 july 2009 it was insane! I was so scared but it didnt get too close... i was in a hotel and we all saw the lights dim and heard it nearby... it hit an animal shelter:( animals survived, shelter rebuilt next day.
damn, i live in australia and i didnt know that, i only knew that we got one once in WA, this is awesome to c a tornado on video from aus, thanks for uploading
I would find myself sitting in a pool of my very own urine. I'm from Kansas - I see something like this and I haul extreme ass. Thanks for the excellent vid - got the heart rate up a bit.
Just to clarify for everyone... Tornadoes occur in Australia and the US - and are the same thing. Its just they tend to be bigger and more frequent in America. Tornadoes do occur in Australia. Now ... Tornadoes are completely separate /different to Cyclones/Hurricanes/Typhoons. Cyclones and Hurricanes, and Typhoons, are the same thing, but just go by different names. The USA call these storm systems Hurricanes, and in Australia we call them Cyclones.
only acouple of weeks ago we had a storm go through Coomera ( gold Coast) .
was up there at Dreamworld. lots of us saw a very large cloud rotation. had moderate hail. strangely the storm seem to hit 3 times like it was circling around on us. another in june pasted from the west, over Nerang out over mermaid beach, also with a clear protuding rotation at the head of the stormfront. getting more likely every year it seems.
I come from Australia too. This video clearly shows a tornado. Hurricanes (a much larger phenomenon) are much, much, bigger, & are known as 'Tropical Cyclones' in Australia (or Severe Tropical Cyclones if they reach hurricane strength around 970mb & sustained winds of over 70 mph). The TC eye can be 50 km wide, or more, & the whole storm, 500 km+ wide. What we see here, is just a few metres width. The total storm cell that spawned this / these tornadoes, might be just a few kilometres wide.
The only difference between this tornado (duh, of course it's a tornado) and tornadoes we get in North America is....that it is spinning clockwise. It is very rare for that to happen in North America.
If you go to Australian Severe Weather association website it has the video and the story of what happened. @promopal It is clear that you do not have a brain cell inside your head. Tornados do exist in Australia I have expereienced 2 myslef here in the South West of Western Australia.Tornados have also been documented in Southern hemisphere locations such as central Brazil. Hurricanes not bigger than cyclones,Hurricanes may cover a whole state, that's only because your states are so small. USA's largest state would fit in W.A at least 8 times .
@halosniper09 Geez some people sure are uneducated. A cyclone is the same thing as a hurricane. A tornadoe is much smaller, though often has much stronger winds. And yes, Australia DOES get them!
Wow, I did not know we had tornados in Australia either but heard just now on the news that there was one today in South Australia.
