    I appreciate it. :D

  • This song is not a throwaway - still great after all these years.

  • Doubt it is about Heroin. It is a song written by musician Tom Johnston (Doobies co-founder). Apparently the tune evolved from an untitled and mostly ad-libbed jam that the Doobies developed onstage years before it was finally recorded. Its working title, according to Johnston, was "Rosie Pig Moseley"

  • I think it's about heroin. "Mrs. lucy do down around these tracks...lost her home and her family.... Just a guess

  • Sweet fucking music. So many songs remind me of this track. Led Zep's Trampled Underfoot is built on the same melody. Were they inspired by the DBs or was the melody based on an earlier source.

  • I seriously have been listening to this song back to back for hours! Guess it's just groovy and I'd like to bboy to it! If anyone knows any other songs with a similar tempo and rhythm please share!

  • thevent22: One song that would come to mind is "Listen to the Music"- another Doobie Bros hit- the rhythm guitar part has the same kind of groove, but to be honest no song can quite live up to how kickass "Long Train Runnin" is.

  • god damn this song is awesome. especially for a bunch of stoners

  • @s02747 Stoners only make the best music. Good lord. Don't you know anything?

  • this has hella sick beat/tempo

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ...

  • I thought they were brothers. What's with the black guy? Was he adopted?

  • haha, yeah your freakin right!

  • without loooooovvvve!

  • dang this song was stuck in my head almost all day.=]

  • "Listen to the music" and you will see

  • i love this song

  • Ditto. An all time great

  • What's better? Long Train Running or Listen To Music? I'm making a CD for my mom to listen in the car for her birthday... I'm going to give you a taste of her music (in songs): Stairway To Heaven Tears In Heaven Soldier Of Fortune '39 Wish You Were Here Hotel California Classical Gas Black Magic Woman (Santana) Tambourine Man She especially likes songs she can sing along too... But for the CD, there's only place for one of those songs... So which one do you think is better? I'm not good at this.
  • listen to the music all the way man

  • you think she'll like it more? I can't ask her, because she'll ask why I asked her, and she's good at finding things out... It's her Birthday present... Do you think Listen To The Music fits her taste of music?

  • Try Great Gig In the Sky. Good Pink Floyd number. Mostly instrumental.

  • She likes voices more than instrumental... I prefer the opposite... And yes I know that song, basically I love Pink Floyd, fav song Echoes...

  • yeah me to, echoes is a masterpiece but i also like hey you.

  • lol its funny cuz this song was never on the minute by minute album

  • Real Music

  • i heard this song on the radio now i cant stop listening to it!!!

  • bella canzone grazie.......

  • One of my all time favorites. It always sounds just as great as the first time I heard it. I never get tired of it. Great song to dance to. Brings back so many memories. Thanks so much for posting. *)*

  • try 70s moron

  • yup, sucks that the leaked masters are cut at the end though

  • You might not realise it, but I looked at your musical taste and all you're music wouldn't be around without the 60s stuff. Think about that whilst listening to guns 'n' roses. (By the way, R.E.M. are great. Glad you like them)

  • i only like one rem song end of the world no one spams me, i kill you!

  • dude you're fucking stupid. this song is amazingggg.

  • You need peace and love.

  • what i need is a woman

  • Fair enough.

  • if it weren't for the revolutionary 60s and 70s music, you wouldn't have the music today...

  • Ozzy loved the 60s and 70s by the way... Just trying to make you understand with your taste of music... But Ozzy hated classical music...

  • ive got the master of this (all 16 tracks) in wave files :D

  • Straaaaaaaaat baby!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!

  • that guitar bit is so goooooooooood

  • this is a good tune

  • i just heard this song today and i cant stop listening to it,it is so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can tell you why it's good. Because the tempo is exactly 120bpm (beats per minute). This means it's doubling your heart rate, getting you in the mood for dancing and it's got a subtle blues chord change and structure to it. It's also the perfect leangth for a single.

  • I love this song! It's so much fun to play in marching band, even after playing it for 3straight years now. Lol =P great times.

  • Yeah!

  • i knew something wasn't quite right, this isn't on minute by minute

  • The Doobies Jumped The Shark when they got Michael McDonald...

  • not necessarily, i think they had a few good albums after that and when johnston got better, didn't they?....i think on the first album the doobie had a problem finding a home behind mcdonald's voice...but minute by minute definitely was a good effort, they went platinum without aiming for it so i'd say its bittersweet at best...nothing to get mad over ...johnston was sick,

  • I disagree. After McDonald joined they became a completely different group. They lost the sound that made them good

  • well i'm a mcdonald enthusiast so...that would probably be why we disagree...skunk baxter agreed with you though, so i guess that's a plus

  • cool!

  • Man do I love this song. Ironically, it was introduced to me at a Swedish metal concert. Opeth, specifically. The lead singer/guitarist was just fiddling around and he was like HOW ABOUT SOME DOOBIE BROTHERS and he started playing it. Respect to this band. They rock.

  • and also by education i didnt mean the standardized educational systems put in place by the government, i meant do your own educational research and go out into the world and figure shit out for yourself

  • i love you all

even the ones that disagree with what i have to say

  • I would love to leave a random inflammatory comment to bring down everyone's vibe (especially the guy who took the time to record and upload this)just to show how knowledgeable i am... but alas, this shit is just way too funky!

  • I like it

  • Obviously, chord progressions will sometimes make one song sound similar to another. That doesn't mean that it was ripped off... You are making a logical fallacy if that's what you truly think. And Nirvana is good. Just because their music wasn't complicated, doesn't mean that they didn't have something important to express. Kurt Cobain really wanted to make people realizing that being a sheep follower is a waste of life (among other things).

  • And he raised shitload of generations of sheep followers... go home :P

  • I'm not "OMFG KURT IZ GOD!!!". Quite offended that you placed me in that category, actually. I just used Nirvana as an example.

  • CONFORMITY IS BULLSHIT whether you like it or not someone has had your beliefs before and in a sense your a sheep follower to them, its only when you try to be so much like someone else that you lose yourself

stop worrying about what other people think about you and try to develop your education, spirituality and make the most out of this seemingly pointless life

this is the rant from a broke smoker whose pissed off cuz hes broke and couldnt afford weed so he smoked the resin...fuck you

  • lay of the soap bar, its bad for you

  • AMEN!!! - 'cept the 'fuck you' part---(unless it was aimed at some other mis-informed blogger, then I say,'give 'em hell') Also, I find beer mellowing..........

  • jesus tap-dancing christ.

anyone who plays rock music can tell you that every rock song in the WORLD is almost exactly the same as SOME other song. you might not even be able to hear it until you play it on the guitar; then you notice that the chord progression is exactly the same just in a different key, for example.

furthermore, any BLUES musician can tell you that EVERY rock riff is ripped off from some old blues lick.

zeppelin and doobie brothers both kick fucking ass; zeppelin ftw imho.

  • "To be honest. I could give two fucks. They could steal a Christmas jingle and take credit for the lyrics and I'd still like Led Zeppelin. I Like Doobie Brothers to."

Ah...The masses at their finest. It is "too", you dumb fuck. Go read some books, people!

  • Stop comparing trampled underfoot with this song, they don't sound the same. Just stop it. Pick some other songs that ACTUALLY sound similiar, and anyway led zeppelin is a way better band then the doobies anyway, regardless of which song came out before.

  • I don't know man...the melodies are pretty similar. I mean, they're both great songs...but Page WAS known for ripping off other peoples works. lol

  • No, Plant was known for ripping off old blues lyrics, a practice not uncommon. Page has stolen the riff of another song on two occasions. This, and the Lemon Song.

  • Yeah. Two occasions.

(I Can't quit you, Babe, How many more times, Dazed and Confused, whole lotta love, The lemon song, Stiarway)

    Just two.

  • Whole Lotta Love's riff? Entirely original. How Many More Times? Sounds nothing like Howling Wold. Dazed and Confused? ASCAP doesnt seem to think so. I Can't Quit You, Babe? I recall that being credited to Dixon. And Stairway, the first 32 notes are borrowed from Taurus, so you have me there... But remember that the solo is what's remembered about that song, and that's entirely original.

And you might be able to see that I said Plant stole lyrics. Page stole a riff twice (3, if you count STH)

  • I personally think How many more times sounds like Haitian fight song by mingus. And Dazed and Confused- originally by the yard birds, even if everyone knows it. And as far as whole lotta love. You should listen to Willie Dixon

  • Actually, Dazed and Confused was originally done by Jake Holmes, not the Yardbirds.

  • Dazed And Confused was taken from Jimmy, but Jimmy changed everything, it's obvious, I studied I can tell you 12 songs, that's all.. I studied Led Zeppelin, hell, it's my favorite band, best band in the world, you just have to leave it... Whole Lotta Love was only the start of the lyrics from Robert Plant. Bring it on Home, only the ending of the song was the closest thing to the original song. How Many Times was originally supposed to be written (by Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page) for the Yardbirds..

  • Stairway To Heaven, he was already with the band Spirit, supposedly, he played the first tiny part of the song (fooling around with Taurus from Spirit) and the song continued into something else, without himself noticing... And it turned to something wonderful... And Stairway To Heaven changed music, wasn't only remembered for the solo, it's just when you first listen to it, you never could of guess, it'll end that way and it all fits perfectly... The song changes...

  • Plant also took the lyrics from In My Time Of Dying, who Bob Dylan already preformed, but he said it wasn't from him originally... So I don't know who did wrote it... I Can't Quit You, Baby and Since I was Loving you and Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You were all covers, but taken to the next level... Plant changed the lyrics, but kept some lyrics, Page changed the guitar works, but kept some parts... And before it was done acoustically... And they changed everything! They don't copy, they don't rip..

  • My point was that Joan Baez claimed Babe Im Gonna Leave You was a traditional song. Page never heard Bredon's version, and he thought Baez' was the original, so they said "trad., arr. Page" If you compare it to Bredon's, it's obvious which one influenced them.

  • And This song and Trampled Under Foot was a complete coincidence... Plant said, "I never thought that we would be accused again for copying another song... We play it a different way, our song changes, their song changes, the only similarities, is the normal riff..." So this song isn't rip off... The Lemon Song the did ripped it, but changed it... Boogie With Stu, they also ripped, the only difference from the original song is that they slowed it down, by a lot...

  • long train running and trampled underfoot sound al little similar in the vocal melody

  • tis freakin groove is soo damn funky....

  • i think the doobie brothers stole this song from an old 60's classic called "i'm a man" by the spencer davis group. check it out.

  • unbelievable bass...daaaaaaaaaamn!!!!

  • To be honest. I could give two fucks. They could steal a Christmas jingle and take credit for the lyrics and I'd still like Led Zeppelin. I Like Doobie Brothers to.

  • I think you mean that you COULDN'T give two fucks...

  • that I do.

  • funky

  • we played this song 4 marching band

  • We are playing it right now. Bad arrangment though.lol

  • 'Tis a charger...ain't it?

  • Great track - although very similar to Led Zeppelin's Trampled Underfoot, can't recall which came first

  • And listen to Spiller's "Groovejet". It sounds more than a little, ahem, INSPIRED by this song...

  • Very similar indeed! I don't think it was intentional though. As a song writer you know that sometimes you'll come up with something and then later realize it sounds like something else.

  • long trian came running came first

  • this is very good

  • sweet song, i play it in band

  • some trivia, Skunk Baxter pictutered in this vid is self taught missel defence expert. And is hired by the pentagon from time to time.

  • this video rocks

  • GROOOVY LOVING IT !!!
