wow this song sounds waay different than when our marching band does it, but i still love it!!! my marching band is the Steubenville Big Red Marching band a.k.a The Best Band in the Buckeye Land. listen to us and see what u think!!!!i love this song both versions!!!!
Sweet fucking music. So many songs remind me of this track. Led Zep's Trampled Underfoot is built on the same melody. Were they inspired by the DBs or was the melody based on an earlier source.
I seriously have been listening to this song back to back for hours! Guess it's just groovy and I'd like to bboy to it! If anyone knows any other songs with a similar tempo and rhythm please share!
thevent22: One song that would come to mind is "Listen to the Music"- another Doobie Bros hit- the rhythm guitar part has the same kind of groove, but to be honest no song can quite live up to how kickass "Long Train Runnin" is.
What's better? Long Train Running or Listen To Music? I'm making a CD for my mom to listen in the car for her birthday... I'm going to give you a taste of her music (in songs): Stairway To Heaven Tears In Heaven Soldier Of Fortune '39 Wish You Were Here Hotel California Classical Gas Black Magic Woman (Santana) Tambourine Man She especially likes songs she can sing along too... But for the CD, there's only place for one of those songs... So which one do you think is better? I'm not good at this.
you think she'll like it more? I can't ask her, because she'll ask why I asked her, and she's good at finding things out... It's her Birthday present... Do you think Listen To The Music fits her taste of music?
One of my all time favorites. It always sounds just as great as the first time I heard it. I never get tired of it. Great song to dance to. Brings back so many memories. Thanks so much for posting. *)*
You might not realise it, but I looked at your musical taste and all you're music wouldn't be around without the 60s stuff. Think about that whilst listening to guns 'n' roses. (By the way, R.E.M. are great. Glad you like them)
I can tell you why it's good. Because the tempo is exactly 120bpm (beats per minute). This means it's doubling your heart rate, getting you in the mood for dancing and it's got a subtle blues chord change and structure to it. It's also the perfect leangth for a single.
not necessarily, i think they had a few good albums after that and when johnston got better, didn't they?....i think on the first album the doobie had a problem finding a home behind mcdonald's voice...but minute by minute definitely was a good effort, they went platinum without aiming for it so i'd say its bittersweet at best...nothing to get mad over ...johnston was sick,
Man do I love this song. Ironically, it was introduced to me at a Swedish metal concert. Opeth, specifically. The lead singer/guitarist was just fiddling around and he was like HOW ABOUT SOME DOOBIE BROTHERS and he started playing it. Respect to this band. They rock.
and also by education i didnt mean the standardized educational systems put in place by the government, i meant do your own educational research and go out into the world and figure shit out for yourself
I would love to leave a random inflammatory comment to bring down everyone's vibe (especially the guy who took the time to record and upload this)just to show how knowledgeable i am... but alas, this shit is just way too funky!
Obviously, chord progressions will sometimes make one song sound similar to another. That doesn't mean that it was ripped off... You are making a logical fallacy if that's what you truly think. And Nirvana is good. Just because their music wasn't complicated, doesn't mean that they didn't have something important to express. Kurt Cobain really wanted to make people realizing that being a sheep follower is a waste of life (among other things).
CONFORMITY IS BULLSHIT whether you like it or not someone has had your beliefs before and in a sense your a sheep follower to them, its only when you try to be so much like someone else that you lose yourself
stop worrying about what other people think about you and try to develop your education, spirituality and make the most out of this seemingly pointless life

anyone who plays rock music can tell you that every rock song in the WORLD is almost exactly the same as SOME other song. you might not even be able to hear it until you play it on the guitar; then you notice that the chord progression is exactly the same just in a different key, for example.
furthermore, any BLUES musician can tell you that EVERY rock riff is ripped off from some old blues lick.
zeppelin and doobie brothers both kick fucking ass; zeppelin ftw imho.
"To be honest. I could give two fucks. They could steal a Christmas jingle and take credit for the lyrics and I'd still like Led Zeppelin. I Like Doobie Brothers to."
Ah...The masses at their finest. It is "too", you dumb fuck. Go read some books, people!
Stop comparing trampled underfoot with this song, they don't sound the same. Just stop it. Pick some other songs that ACTUALLY sound similiar, and anyway led zeppelin is a way better band then the doobies anyway, regardless of which song came out before.
No, Plant was known for ripping off old blues lyrics, a practice not uncommon. Page has stolen the riff of another song on two occasions. This, and the Lemon Song.
Whole Lotta Love's riff? Entirely original. How Many More Times? Sounds nothing like Howling Wold. Dazed and Confused? ASCAP doesnt seem to think so. I Can't Quit You, Babe? I recall that being credited to Dixon. And Stairway, the first 32 notes are borrowed from Taurus, so you have me there... But remember that the solo is what's remembered about that song, and that's entirely original.
And you might be able to see that I said Plant stole lyrics. Page stole a riff twice (3, if you count STH)
I personally think How many more times sounds like Haitian fight song by mingus. And Dazed and Confused- originally by the yard birds, even if everyone knows it. And as far as whole lotta love. You should listen to Willie Dixon
Dazed And Confused was taken from Jimmy, but Jimmy changed everything, it's obvious, I studied I can tell you 12 songs, that's all.. I studied Led Zeppelin, hell, it's my favorite band, best band in the world, you just have to leave it... Whole Lotta Love was only the start of the lyrics from Robert Plant. Bring it on Home, only the ending of the song was the closest thing to the original song. How Many Times was originally supposed to be written (by Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page) for the Yardbirds..
Stairway To Heaven, he was already with the band Spirit, supposedly, he played the first tiny part of the song (fooling around with Taurus from Spirit) and the song continued into something else, without himself noticing... And it turned to something wonderful... And Stairway To Heaven changed music, wasn't only remembered for the solo, it's just when you first listen to it, you never could of guess, it'll end that way and it all fits perfectly... The song changes...
Plant also took the lyrics from In My Time Of Dying, who Bob Dylan already preformed, but he said it wasn't from him originally... So I don't know who did wrote it... I Can't Quit You, Baby and Since I was Loving you and Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You were all covers, but taken to the next level... Plant changed the lyrics, but kept some lyrics, Page changed the guitar works, but kept some parts... And before it was done acoustically... And they changed everything! They don't copy, they don't rip..
My point was that Joan Baez claimed Babe Im Gonna Leave You was a traditional song. Page never heard Bredon's version, and he thought Baez' was the original, so they said "trad., arr. Page" If you compare it to Bredon's, it's obvious which one influenced them.
And This song and Trampled Under Foot was a complete coincidence... Plant said, "I never thought that we would be accused again for copying another song... We play it a different way, our song changes, their song changes, the only similarities, is the normal riff..." So this song isn't rip off... The Lemon Song the did ripped it, but changed it... Boogie With Stu, they also ripped, the only difference from the original song is that they slowed it down, by a lot...
To be honest. I could give two fucks. They could steal a Christmas jingle and take credit for the lyrics and I'd still like Led Zeppelin. I Like Doobie Brothers to.
Very similar indeed! I don't think it was intentional though. As a song writer you know that sometimes you'll come up with something and then later realize it sounds like something else.

Great track - although very similar to Led Zeppelin's Trampled Underfoot, can't recall which came first

And listen to Spiller's "Groovejet". It sounds more than a little, ahem, INSPIRED by this song...

Very similar indeed! I don't think it was intentional though. As a song writer you know that sometimes you'll come up with something and then later realize it sounds like something else.
