Judging by the sound, the prop was too big for the 2 stroke engine which didn't let it spin at reasonable rpm which led to a lack of thrust. Combined with overall bad technique in hand launching and rc flying the plane stalled and crashed. Should have asked someone who's done something like that before.

Launch nitro planes by hand if you want to. No problems there at all. The problem is that it was a POOR LAUNCH ... Do not throw, javalin-like, up at the sky - the plane needs speed and pointing it upwards means it has damn all chance of getting it. Horizontal, fast, straight, wings level and under control - this launcher got zero out of five.

Stupid idea to hand launch....there was a paved surface nearby. Not only that but a crappy launch with someone inexperienced in flight. Dumbass needed to flatten the plane out immediately, instead we point up, tip stall and crash. Great way to ruin an otherwise good airpolane.

That airplane is too large for a hand launch. You need to have a larger motor and more muscle on the toss. Also the angle of attack was too steep at launch. But, you can always try it again it can be done.

This is too big a class of aircraft to be hand-launching under any circumstance. Unless you can run 10-15 mph while balancing a 6-8lb aircraft with spinning steak knives in front of it. One slip of that hand and it's a goner! Very unsafe practice...I doubt these guys are part of anything even semi-organized.

It is all based on thrust to weight ratio. if you have 30% more thrust than weight, you can fly 'up' versus 'straight' when you start. In the end, always launch the plane straight and level, build speed, and then pull back a little.

It's called a tip stall and it's because the pilot grabbed to much elevator.  Honestly you dont need to run and throw the aircraft, there should be enough enough power for it to pull away on its own.
