The scene during the last seconds of this video has about 60 cars, which carry some 100 people. They would all fit in a single bus, tram, or a railroad car, and it would occupy just one lane. 100 people walking or cycling would take roughly the same space as a moving bus.
The only problem with electric cars in america is that a substantial amount of the America gets its electricity from......COAL!!! Thats right COAL not oil not hydro not wind not nuclear but dirty stinky Coal. So plug your electric cars into your outlets and let your coal factories churn out more pollution.
It will still be good because at least they won't need to spend trillions in the middle east. And tanks use gas too. First energy independence, then energy sustainability. The US needs more choices instead of being like a cornered animal.
I don't know why there seems to be this obsession with small electric cars, think of the amount of batteries you could carry if you had a fully electric Hummer. Now there's a business opportunity for an entrepreneur!
The volt is not an 'electric car' its a serial hybrid like the Honda Insight but with a plug in ability. Its not a secret, do a search on YouTube its all over the place.
GM (General Morons) lost their lead with the electric car when they crushed the EV1.
The spec of the Volt comes nowhere near that of the EV1 for electric range.
Yeah ... Bring back the EV1 ... that in itself is a vile story of control & greed ... We need to get access to the 'lost' Tesla files, then we could give a shit about oil ... and oh yeah ... decriminalize Cannabis ... bring back the Hemp, that can fill the void left by Crude, It's called that because it is. Nasty stuff.
Sigh...the illusion of a viable electric car. Not gonna happen by 2010 folks, if it ever will! Do you honestly think that GM, (do they even have a hybrid?) will actually have an electric car out before Honda and Toyoya? If so, it's time to give your head a shake - when either Honda or Toyota start talking electric car, then it will be on the horizon.
As for 'hope for America' it doesn't lie in a political candidate (past, present or future), it lies in revolution - the system is corrupt.
Its laugible to say the least., I watched this dude that weighed 80lbs soaking wet filling his huge SUV. my cars 11 gallons tank., I asked him how big the tank was. He said 44 gallons. My fill from a quater tank was 7 gallons that cost me 28 bucks. I looked at him and smiled and shook my head.He was still pumping after i drove out.
I'll believe it when I see it. America is run by oil hungry, corporate tyrants, they're not about to make electric cars readily available. That would be like the US introducing universal health care by 2010, it's not beneficial to the wealthy, corporate entities.
We're talking about the US government, right? A government which has been shaped by corporate rule, so you're going to be waiting a very long time for those 2 things to be truly implemented, pending some very big changes occur.
Ah, yes, the same corporations that have helped to expand the use of the very Internet you use to complain on. My friend, it's not corporations that is the problem; it's corruption, that is the problem. As long a people have desires, people can make money...including those in government (i.e. "kickbacks"). Nothing is simple, I'm afraid...
But there isn't any corporate tyranny. Capitalism is about making money PERIOD. Just is. Look at the robber barons of the 19th century. When they got out of hand, that's when the progressives, ordinary citizens, banded together to do something about it. Now, based upon a pure economic reason, the same thing is happening again. All of us will have to wait until the effects take root, sadly.
How is it not corporate tyranny? Unaccountable, privatized corporations rule the country, doing whatever they want, prioritizing and securing their interests over that of the peoples. The same corporations that have taken over the media, reformed the government to meet their needs and survive through the existence of a large and poor wage labor class. They thrive on keeping the poor population up and wages down. If that's not the work of a tyrant, I dunno what is.
Kloxboy: You've got it right. The international corporations are the destroyers of all developments of the last 2000 years of the human race, especially humanism.
Wrong. Corporations are the biggest contributors of humanitarian aid outside of the government. In fact, if it hadn't been for the business community, there would not been anyone to fund the first colleges and so forth. Sure, they do so out of a self-serving agenda, but money has to be generated somehow, and the government doesn't "make" money.
The problem with your statement is that you're assuming that corporations are autonomous. They are made up of people who have an invested interest in making money. So, they lobby governments in order to maximize their profit margin. That idea is as old as the banking system and the merchant class. The reason why we can see it is because of the speed of which the media can "report" on the actions of the corporation.
You keep speaking of generic definitions, having no real opinion of your own and you're not addressing the points I've made. I doubt you know enough (or possibly don't care enough) to take a real stance on the matter.
But, so are you. WHO controls the corporations? WHAT is the motivation? HOW are corporations able to lobby governments? You said that the "evil" corporations are doing all this things, but you haven't given any concrete definitions on the method that corporations are using to effect policy. THAT is what I'm getting at. But if you are more comfortable is seeing corporations as mere "boogie entities" devoid of human connections, then nothing is going to CHANGE, and that's sad.
ohh ok. this is bull shit america is perfect the way it is i say built the car of your dreams and have funn and sit back and watch the world distroy it self!
Inorder to change the energy habits it needs people like Obama. However it wont happen as top billionaires will support Mccain resulting the economy of US going worse.

Wind powered cars... Cars generate a lot of wind when they drive - Why not think of a way to make use of that?
Perhaps a wind/electric/solar/bio powered car. I don't see why not, unless they are total idiots.

Watch the documentary who killed the electric car.

GM can get bent. They developed this car a couple of decades ago. Search for "Who killed the electric car".
You as a reporter should have challenged them on this.

Unfortunately, these things will take time to implement, regardless.
And that includes Universal Healthcare as well, because implementing policy, at best, takes a year to go into effect, once the laws are enacted.
