about the musical: the musical is based on the movie "The Fearless Vampire Killers" by roman polanski (btw native german speaker). He did not work out "total eclipse" for bonny tylor in the 1980s. But the german musical he did and so the lyrics are not tarnslated by word but by sence. The original musical was german!!!! (presented 1997 in vienna) and NOT english (2002) !!!! the english version has so many changes that it can also be seen as own show. independent from the orininal.
much better in german, lyrics are better...sich verlieren heisst sich befreien...the english lyrics have no sense...I'll drag you down in my shadows ...thats what it says in german.
I must say his original voice His voice has so much depth. It hard to explain, sth in his voice is so fascinating. Steve is the one and only count of Krolock, noone can change this. I will always love u your still in my heart
His voice sounded better in German... it is too low and too quiet (in the beginning)Sarah would have found it difficult to fall in love with this voice.... and the woman sounds like 40, Sarah is hardly 18.
But the the song is beautiful Though i preffer the "Sich verliern heißt sich befrein
du wirst dich in mir erkennen" Tis is the essence of Krolock, he symbolizes freedom and loss of control over your life. But this is a matter of translation.
@musicals018054444 His voice kinda scared me the first time, I admit. But that's exactly what the role needs, right? A dark, scary voice, that kinda makes u shudder, then u get used to it :P
Steve Barton`s Stimme könnte Menschen bewegen, und tut das selbst noch nach seinem Tot! Es ist ein verdammt harter Schlag so einen wunderbaren Menschen und Sänger zu verlieren!!
I love to listen to Steve Barton singing and I also love to listen to Jans Peter Janssen with the Dutch version that was in Antwerp, Belgium. I could not get the song out of my head for weeks and now months.
Of course that I'm serious, I've never joke with what I love. But, you're right I must explain myself. when I said that I love to hear something new about him means that I've didn't hear that record before.
And certanly I know he's dead since 2001, but I rather like not to think about it. I've like to remember him as he was...in his magnificent performances!
That's the general opinion, yes, but this version of the song is actually very interesting, because-- get this-- it's sung by the German Krolock (Steve Barton) in English! So this singer IS the German singer, singing in English. (His most famous role is actually an English one-- Raoul in the original Phantom of the Opera!)
@thesoundofmusicality I guess Turtilie thinks one of the actual Krolocks is better (Jan Amman, Kevin Tarte, Thomas Borchert, etc.) and hasn't seen anything from Steve Barton since he died and only a small part of Dance of the Vampire fans have seen Barton live
@thesoundofmusicality No no nooo! He is American, read the Wikipedia! D: of course he sounds better in German! But he's American, so odd, no? O.O He learned German himself! But this one is very deep and scary. Plus it's understandable, although I have already memorized the lines to the song where I practically know those German words. However, I totally heart Steve Barton insanely, so it doesn't matter how he sounds o.O
... It is the same person. But for some reason the female is over powering him. Check out any other song then this one and you will see what I am talking about.
@Turtilie You're strange - I heard just the first 'Turn around' and knew immediately that this is Steve by his voice. And he's amazing, no matter if it's German or English!!^^ *loves Steve, RIP* ;(
The song was originally written by Jim Steinman, who ALSO used the music for Tanz der Vampire. He is fully entitled to use his own music. So please know your facts the next time you try to spell 'Copyright infringement' :P
@gordon020958 oh fuck you guy. As soemone explained, Steinmann made out of the song what he wanted cause he wrote it. On another note, it was America that managed to bastardize one of the greatest musicals that ever played on european stage by turning it into a campy gay vampire comedy, that Polanski and most people involved with the original production hated. So yeah, if someone deserves to be sued for "raping" something good, it`s the broadway director for this shit.
The English version of the musical didn't work out really well lol
