@UnhandHim nope. and that's the joke. ;-P the article was about the actual c-word. i meant to link the articles in the doobly-doo, but it seems i forgot. i shall rectify this.
God, I love your videos. Pardon the way-late commenting, as everyone seems to be uploading videos this week!
Hmm... I think you know this one, but I am fond of spreading awareness on behalf of the phrase "for all intents and purposes"! I don't know what "intensive" purposes are.
@fecklessman Okay, well if you knew that and you like my screen name, I'll try again with an octopus-related fact. The plural of octopus is octopodes, or, more accurately, octopuses, NOT octopi. Did you know that?
@fecklessman I must have some small modicum of knowledge I could share with you. I'll try a couple: Cats can't taste sugar, slugs have four noses, the original name of 'Los Angeles' was 'El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora La Reina de Los Angeles' (Translation: 'The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels') , and the common house fly hums in the key of F. Those are probably four of the most trivial and obscure facts I know.
@qwertyoctopus i did not know any of those facts! but the third one does not surprise me at all [i'm from san diego, and i've seen enough catholic church names to know the reasoning behind the long names]. very nice. ;-D
you and your politically correct videos never cease to make me smile. i have friends that use "scratch" instead of "itch" on purpose because of how much they know it pesters me. why thank you for proving me right. :)
Your face when you said "Go on..." is priceless. And I love the sign on the door.
Nice format!
Ooh, how about this? The rhinoceros can run at speeds exceeding 30 MPH, yet it has such poor eyesight that it cannot see more than 30 feet away from itself. Now that's boldness - going full speed without fear of what's ahead!
@superfox1080 thanks! that was my favorite part to film. the sign on the door was put up for my friends who were housesitting for a weekend, i just left it up there because i thought it was funny. hehehe.
i didn't know that about the rhinoceros. interesting! i may make reference to this in a future video, actually.
@aquatius5 technically i didn't say it was 'just a fancy word,' i said that the word was just a fancy way of describing the function. ;-P
it really is, though. to a native english speaker, linguistic terminology is largely superfluous. most people don't need to know what a transitive verb is to understand how they function, they just know 'how it works' rather than 'why it works that way,' as i put it in the later segment. ;-D
but i agree, they need to learn, which is why i reiterated later.
@aquatius5 for the majority of individuals, i think it would just complicate things further. there's really no reason to know a lot of the stuff taught in linguistics if you aren't trying to learn or teach another language.
@aquatius5 trust me dude, i love linguistics too. i'm just too practical and realistic in my approach to education to get behind mandatory linguistic study. ;-P let's make sure kids are learning what's already mandatory first, then move on from there, right? ;-D
@fecklessman But so many conversations about pronunciation that occur in everyday life would be facilitated by IPA. And Maths is mandatory to a level beyond neccessary for people who don't want jobs in it.
@aquatius5 while i agree about math, the problem with the ipa chart is that it doesn't solve any problems... it just explains differences. in terms of english, a non-standardized language, there's really no point in learning the ipa because everyone is still going to have their own dialects and slang that result in differing pronunciation.
@fecklessman I wasn't suggesting that. It's just when people are trying to discuss pronunciation they have to resort to clumsy comparisons or "phonetic" spelling and it often leads to misunderstandings whereas with IPA it's a lot clearer.
@aquatius5 potentially, sure. but it's a whole new alphabet, it may as well be a whole other language from most peoples' point of view. it's akin to saying that we should all learn latin in order to describe english. ;-P
I posted your video on my reddit pgae... I hope some people that appreciate quality find and add you. Seriously. You are the best person I've found on youtube.
@csandreas i really appreciate that, chris. thanks! this video has picked up quite a bit of traffic very quickly, and it's making me happy. hopefully i can keep the momentum going. ;-D
Is this going to be your new format? I like this, but not as much as your four parts formats you just put up. That doesn't mean I hate it or whatever. You know?
@Justtubed the future episodes will certainly have elements from what i'm calling the feckless hour experiment. it was actually a large part of the decision to make this show the way it is, with segments instead of separate videos for different styles.
(Sorry, took Russian 101 this year and though I know really REALLY little, you talking about Russians made me want to try to comment in Russian. I said, or at least tried to say, "I want more 'Plain English'! Very good!")
I learned today that maybe I souldn't be doing videogame skits and random videos....Not because I'm bad at either but because none of it is personal...and throughout my entire life being an extremely open and expressive person has been a defining characteristic of mine..and I feel like if nothing I need to make use of that.... which is what made me sit down and attempt to structure my vlogs and shows... which makes your decision to do the same all the more odd.
@csandreas interesting. i'm sort of striking the balance between personal and entertaining, which i feel is the best thing for me. i'm interested to see how your videos turn out now that you seem to be heading in a similar direction. ;-D best of luck to you, man!
Dude this is really awesome... I'm starting to think we share a hive mind, I just recorded a vlog today deciding to use the desk behind me as my backdrop ... I also deciding to structure my Pokemon Gangsta Nerd show in a similarly structured format. I should show you the script I drew up, with story board...It's scary.
@csandreas i like it! the pokémon gangsta nerd could use some structure. ;-D he cracks me up, but it's hard to follow exactly what you're trying to say sometimes. teach me, chris! teach me about pokémon, i've never really been into it at all.
Excellent! I really hope you keep this up... forever. I can see this really catching on. Not that it's any of my business, but you should. Even if you have to abrogate some content and make shorter videos, doing it weekly would be great.
By the way, here's some grade A hockey facts. The first Olympic gold medal ever won was won by the Winnipeg Falcons, from my hometown! Also, just this year, we're getting our team back, which left due to incompetent ownership in 1996!
@IrradiatedTV thank you! i'm glad you think so, and i plan to continue this show and refine it and make it the best it can be. i think i've found my niche. ;-D i will be doing other videos from time to time as well, but this is going to be the weekly show from now on.
basically, this is 'it.' the old schedule is done with.
re: hockey, that's so funny! i was just talking about hockey with my wife a few minutes ago, because she showed me that really bad late hit by the canucks' defenseman.
@fecklessman There were tons of them. I'll tell you what, the referees need to abrogate some of the rough play earlier in the game, or it's going to escalate into spectacles like this last game.
I am also going to abrogate my use of the word abrogate, I'm already tired of it. XP.
On another note, why do I feel compelled to put punctuation after an emoticon?
Amazing video bud. Just...blew me away. The style and the things taught. I have successfully shown my fiance this video....maybe now she cam abrogate that aggravating incorrect use of the word itch. Long story short, loved it, learned some cool stuff, and I can't wait to see more.
you are so great man!! Love the show idea.. i am stoked to see you get big.. try to keep your eyes directly on the camera, cuz you approach is very focused and specific stuff. so when you dont look directly at the camera it causes an energetic separation.. totally constructive feedback, i love your show!! and would love to collab soon so you can get some of my sub! PEACE
@MahaNomi thanks for the kind words! i'm incredibly impatient, so rather than memorizing each line, i glance at my script which is off to one side or another. i probably won't be doing that anymore, unless i could sit further from the camera with a more teleprompter-like setup. you're right, it's distracting. i hate it when other vloggers stare at the viewfinder, so i cringe a bit when i see myself not looking at the camera. let me know if you have any ideas for collabs, i'm totally down.
LOL That was awesome and funny. Saw you on Justtubed, came here, loved it, subscribed.
By the way, how does one use "itch" as a verb? Just curious. Probably really obvious, and I just can't think of it and need clarification. Thanks! :)
