  • Try destroying the OS...

  • and thats almost 2 decades old

  • Windows Chicago is a mixed breed of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

  • This Windows version is between 3.1 and 95.

  • i'll let you know if the second iso file worked.

  • @billyhope02 this iso file did not work!

  • This is build is really cool! I downloaded a .VHD file.

  • I have Windows Chicago Build 40. I casually found the build 40 CD when I was searching for the build 58. It is only an upgrade for windows 3.1. On the boot screen it says: Preliminary Release - May 1993

  • ммммм древняя винда)

  • .iso file is not booting could anybody PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • does anyone have build 56?

  • It worked on my Virtual PC Even With 8 mb of ram

  • Dis shizzle can run Crysis 2? :D

  • Co to kurwa jest!? WTF!?

  • GRAPHICS- 10/10 SPEED- 10/10 xD

  • Is that a text field in the start menu bar? Is it functional or just a spacer in this early build? I've always wanted a run box or command line visible from anywhere in the OS. Also, that task management is actually really cool.

  • @jvdthwip That blank white space at the bottom was like an early version of the "Quick Launch" -- it was basically a folder inside the taskbar, where you could move or copy files there. Programs running in the background didn't appear in the taskbar though, they appear "within" the desktop like Windows 3.x did.

  • theres a cool thing: if you dont want to shut your computer down but you have clicked on the confirm button, you can press ctrl-alt-del to cancel.. thats nice

  • Ever since, Windows has the blue title bar as default (except 1.x and Vista)

  • LOL, no 'x' button. NOW WHAT!

  • @RET80 It was a mix between Windows 3.1 and 95. The "x" button was the "-" in the top-left of the corner, it does look strange at first...

  • @UploadVideos247 That's not so real. The "X" button that time there was not yet. This "-" button is not gone. It was like this: Microsoft has invented the "X" button and the "-" button madeinvisible, it gives him even more! Simply click the top left of the window and you'll see.

  • @RET80 this is when microsoft did not know the letter X

  • wow.... im 12.. even i wasnt alive in 1993 this Reminds me a lot...

    i love old os

  • Got it to bootup, With the screen, But then it just goes straight to - Cannont find or load required file KRNL386.EXE.

    C:\>_

  • @TheAwesomeGuardian Looks like something went wrong during the installation.

I would recommend you try reinstalling it, then try the VPC if it is still not working, and if that doesn't work, your computer might be "too new" to run this old version, like now.. after I updated to Windows Virtual PC (from Virtual PC 2007) on my PC running Windows 7, I can't even operate it properly anymore :(

  • and for all thoes calling it a windows 95 beta it is not a windows 95 beta.... build 122 onwards was named 'beta' this is a pre beta or some may say alpha

  • hey mate i managed to get a cd driver working by adding the driver to the root and then configuing the autoexec.bat and config.sys files... :)

  • @SuperAce98 people dont hate it now... it's just had a rough life its been abused by older computers thats what people were complaining about, because there ancient xp computers from 2003 couldnt run it... vista is prefect nowdays it jsut got off on the wrong foot

  • @SuperAce98 Lots of people don't like Windows Vista because it wasn't very reliable and lots of drivers wasn't compatible with it.

  • Who needs windows 7!!!

  • thanks it works 5 stars

  • @HELLOKID123456789 This isn't fake at all, this is the Beta of Windows 95. Research before you post such stupid comments!

  • @UploadVideos247 can be an fake informacion on wikipedia

  • @MBCCOMPANY Yeah, but it's not. Wikipedia checks sources and info to see if anything's fake. Go try to vandalize a page. It'll be fixed by admins in no time.

  • @Jk981206 OK

  • @HELLOKID123456789 Its Windows 95 beta, Just like Windows 7 had a beta

  • Wow!,to think about windows 7 compared the speed

  • if there is windows chicago why not make windows seattle?

  • @masumi99 LOL, Hello seattle!

  • Wow, who would of known that Windows 95 was to look like this. Also, look at how early this is! This still has alot of Windows 3.1 stuff in it! Very early alpha, but I think that build 26 is the earliest..., but anyways, nice job dude!

  • Wow. Who would of known that Windows 95

  • it works for me but it usually takes more than one try to get it to boot up

  • Looks cool. ISO didn't work. Now downloading VHD. Anyway, thx. I hope this doesn't contain any virus? :( Cuz i had problems before with youtube

  • There shouldn't be a virus in the download, I hope not anyway... nobody reported there was a virus so it should be okay :)

  • TY for your quick reply! But the VHD zip is not .zip, but .zip_?

  • The Virtual Hard Drive (.vhd) is in a compressed zipped folder (.zip) it download and works fine on Windows.

  • Thanks! it worked! :) Virus-free

  • Wow. This Is The Very First Build.

    (reference from wikipedia)

  • is this Sun Virtual Box Compatible?

  • This might be compatible with Sun Virtual Box, but I haven't tried it to see if it works myself, I do know that the Virtual Hard Drive I provided will not work with VirtualBox, since its only designed for Virtual PC 2007.

  • Um after I install it, it starts up with a black screen with an underline somewhere at the bottom of the screen. That's all I get...

  • OMG! That looks freaking awsome! If they would remake Chicago it would be nice...

  • is this parrallels compatible?

  • This is so slow windows. Looks fine but it is so slow. ">8-("

  • yup, worse than vista

  • wait until you see my computer that BARELY has programs on it.

  • what is the function of that empty wite thing on the taskbar?

  • You can drag folders and stuff there

  • i think its a run command line?

  • Great system actually.

It is cool, why I do not haved Internet when it launched...

    *subscribes n favorites*

  • THANKS! You don't know how long I've been looking for this. It looks better than the Windows 95 now (I still love Windows 95 though), except for the errors. 5/5, adding it to favorites & playlist.

  • Hey! same ms paint as win 3.1

  • How does the zip work?

    I like winRAR better.

  • In WinRAR, just right click on the ZIP file when downloaded and click Extract Files... and extract them.

  • i love it but even at my young age it makes me feel old how much things have progressed and changed lol

  • Wow. Amazing, From Windows 1.x to Windows 7. They have definitely changed a lot since then...

  • @TomboFry Personally id say this is slap bang in the middle of the biggest change. Its almost totally different to the 3.xx

  • 13mB! wow, haaha, nice OS actually reminds me of BartPE (Windows XP Live CD) the way the start menu is I mean. Thanks for the ISO as well.

  • I thought this is fake when i saw this first time ;P LoL

  • early chicargo builds were realy buggy. i liked them because they are unique in their interface

  • The download link is dead :-(

  • It shouldn't be dead, the original link may require to login but the one on Windows Live Skydrive isn't, if you can't download it then you may have some problem downloading files from Skydrive.

  • I downloaded the VHD It wont boot just a flashing line XD

  • It should work, I redownloaded the one on Skydrive and created a new VM, using 64MB RAM and seems to work correctly.

  • Oh thanks man I didnt know I think it was because it had to much ram haha I had like 1gig on it =P

  • I am having the same problem and I am using 64MB of ram. btw this is Yamaha250FMF

  • i also have the chicago beta 1 iso from may of 94

  • Notice how the Start Button is how it is now in 2009 - Just a single icon.

  • Thanks, is there a way i can get internet on there, and how can I get sound? I want to here what it sounds like compared to XP.

  • It's like in between win 3.1 and 95. The windows are still 3.1 style, but the desktop is 95 style (mostly).

  • ... it was 16 years ago they didn't have vista so der....

  • I love all the old versions of windows!

I thought I would never find windows chicago, I saw it on a windows history video. never released!
