What she is talking about is an On-Camera Technique. Blinking less looks better on camera. Excessive blinking interrupts the communication between actor and audience. It's NOT abnormal for a film/tv actor to blink less. When you perform on stage you have to speak louder than you would in real life, for an alternate example. She makes a Really Good Point here and actors looking to work in film/tv should take note.

Focussing on how much you blink is probably the worst acting advice I'e ever heard. Unless a person blinks excessively or has facial ticks, this is just nonsense. Not blinking equates staring. Even cartoon characters blink because it's natural.

Obviously if you actually get the role in the movie you can blink all you want until the director comments, but she is right that in auditions when the camera is usually a medium-closeup shot of your torso (and therefore your face and eyes are very much the center of focus) you should try not to blink that much. Thanks! Finally, someone mentioned this necessary skill/technique for actors! (I had to figure it out for myself). Every CD/On-Cam teacher should stress the importance of minimal blinking, esp. re: close-ups. This technique is not brought up in on-camera/audition classes the way it should be.

Don't believe me? Watch the pros: Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Bruce Willis (who has said "blinking is for liars"). Notice how seldom they blink.

I was going to agree with you but then I thought a little more about it. I think she may have a point. Unless the character requires a lot of blinking, then traditionally, on film, people tend to enjoy a full face of focus when having a conversation or making a statement. I tend to lean towards the realer actions and reactions but in this case I think shes right...as far as the camera getting the best of your energy...
