thanks touchwood1 usually what is the temperature of reflow oven? about 250 degree centigrade?
i am asking this because i have some solder paste and i want to solder some smd components so i want to know the temperature to set in my hot air machine.
@haarvey919 There are quite a few components on that machine. Take a look at all the cartridge feeders on the side. Each one of them is pretty sophisticated in itself. I'm sure they could come up with something but you better have a hell of a lot of time to dedicate to building one.
What a slow piece of crap except that it probably can make boards with large components. only one nozzle?? looking at that board a topaz-xII could do that in maybe 40 seconds and it costs about the same i think. An emerald is super old and uses 2 nozzles and can handle big components which that board has none of.
They should have a "Man Versus Machine" world championship contest. Find the fastest human manual pick n placer, and pit him/her against this thing :P
$52K? Hmm, I better place an order to help finance that fancy new toy. Glad to see you guys growing - you're definitely one of my favorite electronics suppliers and one of the best electronics references too!
Beautiful! You guys should make a video explaining how the production process works and how this machine fits into it. It would be really interesting!
i think you are supposed to make a stencil first, then apply solder paste using the stencil. the paste would be slightly sticky, enough to hold the parts in place. that machine does not solder though

how do they place parts on double sided boards and reflow them in the oven for that matter, are the sides placed and heated separately ?

@donnyab i too have the same question

big freakin table of components but still think a good ol mc-8 is better at tray placement machine. Especially spacewise

what about soldering? is it done at the time of placing components?
anceop 7 months ago
@anceop
What happens (usually) is solder paste is placed on the solder pads on the pcb
then the pick and place machine puts the components on the board
then it goes in a reflow oven where the solder paste melts to for the connections

i would think 250 would do the minimum melting point for lead solder is 183 Are you using lead free solder paste or the normal paste?

This is the closest thing to porn we'll ever see on Youtube.
$52K though? I have to think the open source community can do the same thing for 1/10th of the price.

I'd love to see the rest of the process:
milling the pcb, applying the soldermask, flowing the solder... etc.

frank26080115 2 years ago
The solder paste is sticky. If you want them to stay in place upside-down, you get a machine that can squirt a dab of glue underneath first.

coolest machine evar. all it needs is rockets.
