  • Excuse me, am I the only one who has detected a huge mistake in the transistor circuit? I mean, what the hell is this topology? The be junction is not forward biased and this transistor will never be on!

  • what is this walkman of which you speak?

  • Where the f**k did they buy those tape players without spending a fortune?

  • wish they'd made it with notes

  • when he showed the tapes, I thought "It could be done with arduino and sound shield easily, " then they did with arduino \ o /

  • Haha it sounds likes daleks

  • I'd prefer Kraftwerk instead ...

  • I really don't want one of those

  • OMG, so unproffesional

  • Thats pretty creative.

  • That is shit

  • bre was way better than kipkay is...alas, he is busy at MakerBot...

  • Easier Version:Get Three Walkmans.Turn the play button on and off on them really fast.

  • Strictly, this isn't a mellotron, as the notes on a Mellotron are mechanically triggered (through the tape head and capstan roller mounted on the keys) instead of switching the audio signal electrically.

You can pull some creative hacks with a few tape decks to do some resampling tricks, if you can get your hands on decks that can record. Imagine the possibilities with double tape decks, high-speed dubbing and a DJ mixer... ;)

  • so pretty much this is an instrument that a three year old can play

  • well tahts a waste of perfectly good walkmans and cassettes >:o

  • get a monome

  • I love you guys! Thanks for the vid!

  • qwerty keyboard,lol

  • You lot realize that you're actually working for a nerd nowadays or are going to work for one in the future? Don't be sad now.

  • I just love YouTube recently.. 2.5 Megabytes per second down, yet no videos load. Ever. Oh, and I'm on the East Coast, US, so again, no reason for the slow down other than YouTube messing up. I can't find a feedback form anywhere, so time to post in videos! :D

  • @shinyedgestudios I also noticed more and more people sign up just to be bloody idiots. Having a computer to hide behind really is quite empowering, but i bet the heavy idiocy is slowing down Youtube as well.

  • Canal street huh. Thats the miney china and best place to buy speakers

  • Shouldn't it be walkmen????

  • where can i buy 25 walkman...s... walk... men... whatever

so, i'm looking for 25 of them, on the internet. if possible, 25 times the same one...

    any suggestion will be appreciated!!

  • geni cazzo!!!!

  • Walk-man why space ive always heard walkmen

  • I can't express strongly enough how disappointed I am that you didn't attempt to make music with it. It just sounded like a radio scanning empty stations. Well done.

  • idiots

  • yo, if you aplied a peak type eq to the radio signal which varied with the button pressed, you could make an awesome distortion instrument...

or find a way to use a cap to change the decay on the radio signal, effectively making a drum sound, which can be pitch varied with peak eq to make snare, bass, etc.

    or both =]

  • I didn't know that they still sell cassette walkmans on Canal Street.

  • @proceo12 watz phun

  • i used many small screws took off from this tapes and put on my hobby models

  • Genius's (if there is such a word)

  • Nice vid! thanks!

  • no they arent. but its close! phun is awesome!

  • That is not phun. That is an animation.

  • you should have done like a daft punk thing. you know harder better faster stronger. that would have been awesome

  • Congratulations...

Very Funny, but requires a lot of work...

    I enjoy it.

  • i miss bre...

  • these guys are total nerds!!!

    but that is cool

  • They are not nerds..

  • Ahahaha. Lol !

  • they're cigarettes???

  • QWERTY FOR THE WIN!

  • did I hear some reggae music like some daddy yankee in one of those samples

  • these guys are awesome

  • Bre Pettis is the best.cool

  • So much work for such dissapointing result.

  • i could be a lot better with different samples. and holding the buttons down longer. the walkman mellotron its based on is awesome

  • I wouldn't say it if I wasn't sure.

  • RhythmDroid, you may be sure but you're still wrong. Look it up!

  • At 2:59, what the f? The MCU outputs to the BJT's collector while the base is tied to ground? I don't know what these guys are thinking or how they got it working, but something is wrong.

  • i like it! :)

  • ohmielabs you nerd

  • Strawberry Fields Forever did not have a Mellotron.

  • Nice work, Eric! Its an internet mystery how I sent this video to myself when I never saw it in the first place. Olympia greetings nontheless....

  • Seriously fucking awesome. Omigod, so awesome. My head is freaking out with possibilities--possibilities o' sound.

  • You wish you where so smart.

  • Ha. Your just jealous!

  • NERD POWER!

  • Dude take a chill pill..think he have a life other wise he'd be dead :P

  • LOL If it weren't for nerds, a lotta people wouldn't be here today. And think of this, if all the nerds vanished, and all that was left were mindless people like you, the world would fall to shit.

  • @lordace777 yep

  • @godblesskiddchris your mommy says you're special when i fuck her

  • Yeah rightboom, shut up. He's smarter than you, he's more popular than you are, He's more succesful than you, and you spelled "virgin" wrong. So be quiet!

  • cool i need one

  • music lover + techno geek = what else can we say..! AWESOME..!

  • geeks rule so shup

  • i laughed and thought it was cool :)

  • Why not using a stereo jack to plug the cassete player instead of soldering some wires into it?

  • Shweet!!!

  • omg!! you guys sound soo smart :P

  • So the tapes are rolling the whole time and you are just turning on the audio with the switches right? I would be nice to hear the finished audio out clearer.

check out my videos on building gear for your art Music/Video/Photography

  • what the FUCK are you guys talking about

  • this was cool until they added the programming and the homemade speaker out of nowhere. If only it was simpler. Id love to make one, just aint got all the stuff they do.

  • i used to make the projects, now they just require to much money and effort :S go back to showing us how to make things out of household junk :D

  • lol you guys are awesome! great work on your vids, thanks!

  • that was pretty funky like usaul i watched it twice

  • I like turtles

  • Great project! This is Weekend Projects at it's best--not giving step by step instructions, but inspiring with a bunch of new ideas.

  • wow geek alert! what happen to easy and doable projects like makin a bag and wallet out of tape? i dun get all these electronics stuff. sorry, but i think simple.

  • is there a place with like basic tutorials that's like an intro to working with electronics and all that? -- (nothing long winded and boring)
