Porter is or was amazing . A lad or friend of mine said he couldnt say to knowing any Porter songs . I askd him about the mp3 track on his playlist I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU or somthing like that and he had no idea it was written by Porter . Porter a true GREAT when it comes too music and songs .jj7
All those great composers of that era had their signature styles. Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers, Kern, etc..for Porter, what I notice is how he builds up his melodies over a very long stretch (a great example is 'So In Love'), with often a surprising chord that changes the feeling of the song somewhere near the end (example: 'Everytime We Say Goodbye' where he goes from major to minor along with the lyric).
Weary nonsense! As a French speaker her accent is unmistakably Corsican (recognizable even in English parlance). My late father used to say that there were, in 1930, only Helen Morgan and Irene Bordoni who could stop any show with their performance. Whatever song they sang stayed sung.
Irene also does another song in a similar manor as "Let's Misbehave" I believe the title is, or at least the main line is "BUT DON'T LOOK AT ME THAT WAY" from around 1925, it sounds like it is from a Broadway show, but I am not sure, but if you like this song here, you'll most certainly like that one as well.
I prefer when she sings "Just An Hour of Love". (perfectjazz75)
she must sing slow melodies than she can use her superb legato singing, here she sounds as an ordinary singer. The melody is to fast for her, she sounds like a duck.
thanks so much!!!!!

Should be required listening. What a great song, so "spicily" delivered... Kudos to Bordoni!!
("I always squeeze my Pekinese"???)

Are any of Cole Porter's uncensored lyrics available?

"If you want a future, darling, Why don't you get a past?' is a simply but witty couplet.

With a large amount of composers it's a rather hit-and-miss game, but with Cole Porter, it's all hits. Great recording of the tune as well.

So many redos of this song are known - with her you understand (hope) that's the way Cole Porter would've wanted it!

This is a really nice rendition of this song.
How sad to learn that she died at such a young age.
Thank you for sharing.

@weiliiiiiii I used to dig Dylan so much. I still do. But Porter shows me a different world that is so truthful.

Fantastic alternate version! Aaronson (who also recorded the best-known version) is different here with a lighter and so refined orchestration.
