My Mamod was like a mad dog. It would run like crazy till it flipped off the track. It was either to slow or too fast. Always burned the shit out of me. My cat jumped at it and burned he paws and tongue. Then one day the whole boiler blew-up. The back plate where the water indicator cracked open and hot water spashed on my wrist. I threw the little fucker out. NO MORE MAMOD FOR ME.
Anychance we can see some more of this great little loco running? One on track and another on blocks maybe so we can have a good look at all the editions such as the cylinders,motion,filler/safety vale and regulator? It would be great if you could, thanks.
Amazing cylinder and valve gear conversion!I bet that took some head scratching to set up,well done, bet its a vast improvement on the oscillating cylinder version, makes it look like a real model loco with the feed pipes etc exposed!! Actually looks better than mamods current piston valve operated version,of which I have never seen working well unlike yours, maybe you should send a few photo's to Mamod!! Like the wheels too almost boxpox type!!Thanks for posting.
Well, I don't know if it's fair to say "destroyed". The chuffing sound is nice, but I like the wilesco cylinders. The engine certainly looks less like a toy with proper valve gear.

You've destroyed the feel that a mamod has, a Mamod has a chuff that most railfans can be happy to hear anyday, a whistle that sings as you pull the chain, the simple body work and the characteristic cylinders and speed that Mamod SL1s had.
You can stop them by hand, and restart again just by pushing him in the desired direction. Off course the engine will stop when the fuel is gone, this locomotive can be steamed the whole day just by refuelling it and pump some water in the boiler.
Now that is devotion to the cause! A mamod with proper cylinders! Most people would have just "binned" the complete loco' and bought one of Roundhouse's or accucraft's products.
Oh that one, yes it is a slip-eccentric based on a bannana shaped slotted hole. To keep th pull/push rod in the slotted hole I added the extra gear for lateral stability of the rods. Enjoy biulding it, keep me informed plaese.
Would be finished with the addition of a chuff pipe!!!
