  • Would be finished with the addition of a chuff pipe!!!

  • Quite a makeover! Did you use Wilesco TE cylinders?

  • That is some rebuild! Nice work

  • Anychance we can see some more of this great little loco running? One on track and another on blocks maybe so we can have a good look at all the editions such as the cylinders,motion,filler/safety vale and regulator? It would be great if you could, thanks.

  • Amazing cylinder and valve gear conversion!I bet that took some head scratching to set up,well done, bet its a vast improvement on the oscillating cylinder version, makes it look like a real model loco with the feed pipes etc exposed!! Actually looks better than mamods current piston valve operated version,of which I have never seen working well unlike yours, maybe you should send a few photo's to Mamod!! Like the wheels too almost boxpox type!!Thanks for posting.

  • destroyed!? he just made a real live steam locomotive out one of those ugly mamods

  • Well, I don't know if it's fair to say "destroyed". The chuffing sound is nice, but I like the wilesco cylinders. The engine certainly looks less like a toy with proper valve gear.

  • if that's a Mamod, it's seriously done up...

    ...and looks awesome

  • it looks guite nippy

  • i dont think its a mamod, looking to the cyllinders it looks like its from wilesco

  • can you stop them after they get going or do u have 2 w8 till the fuel runs out??

  • You can stop them by hand, and restart again just by pushing him in the desired direction. Off course the engine will stop when the fuel is gone, this locomotive can be steamed the whole day just by refuelling it and pump some water in the boiler.

  • thanks 4 replying, matt

  • how much for one of these?

  • Now that is devotion to the cause! A mamod with proper cylinders! Most people would have just "binned" the complete loco' and bought one of Roundhouse's or accucraft's products.

  • it, it, it's some kind of Mamod Monster!!! LOL!!

  • i might have to steal that idea :D

  • Andy, what idea do you mean?

  • valve gear and cylinders, :D

  • Oh that one, yes it is a slip-eccentric based on a bannana shaped slotted hole. To keep th pull/push rod in the slotted hole I added the extra gear for lateral stability of the rods. Enjoy biulding it, keep me informed plaese.

    Bertie

  • ok, i dont know if i will be able to do it from sight, so i might have to experiment with some drawings
