For those who ask all the time about why Jesse always relates or has songs that sound christian or whatever, it's because he went to a catholic high school. Not saying his school is the actual reason for the songs, but you understand what I mean.
man a lot of their demo stuff i like more than the official versions...love having multiple versions of their songs though this one is so much deeper i love it
This version is amazing - it's like the original on slow drugs. Anyway, to end all the lies and confusion, it's an official version and can be purchased on Spotify. Search "Brand New Millstone" and it's the version which is 05:05 in length. Enjoy.
The person who uploaded this didn't mess with Millstone. This is the true alternate version. If you took time to compare the original and this version, Lacey changed the lyrics. For example, in the original, the lyrics were "I used to know the name of every person I kissed, Now I've made this bed, and I can't fall asleep." In this one it's, "I was the captain who stay the course, When the storm rose up and showed us all its worst." Also at the beginning in this, you can hear Lacey counting.
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. KJV
I've noticed that he used parts of Bible verses a lot.
Saying Milestone makes no sense. I Milestone is a marking on the road to indicate distances. A Millstone is a heavy responsibility or burden. Hence the meaning of the song. He has a very big responsibility in trusting and following God. The chorus says "I'm my own stone around my neck." Is that what I wish the lyric was? No, doesn't mean it's not that. It still makes sense, the name of the song doesn't have to be in the lyrics.
Its a play on words. Yes, a Milestone is a marking on a road that indicates distances, but its also a way of measuring worth: An achievement. He thinks its funny in a kind of sardonic way how such an "accomplishment" is weighing him down. You could say that his pride(or new attitude) is literally dragging him down. Both Milestone and Millstone. Cool huh?
@13entley I don't think so mate. He clearly doesn't say the word millstone. He's saying he is like a millstone around his own neck (holding himself back) "I'm my own stone around my neck". Ha... you're wrong
They really shouldve stuck with this version. i can picture the opening riff in the background of all the noise you hear after Sowing Season, then just hearing that counting. itd be really great.
i also really like the alternate lyric in the second verses.

@13entley The word millstone is pronounced "Mill-Stone" not "Milestone" He is in fact saying in the chorus "I'm my own stone around my neck". Sorry i agree with phil on this one.
This version is amazing, so refreshing (after listening to this album a billion times ^_^).

"They never hit their brakes..."
"There was no time to see..."
"He just ran out in the street..."
"Does anybody know his name?"
"I think I recognize him..."
"He sure as hell paid for that mistake..."
This is so good. Not just good. Sooo good.
