this is a great spin on the original. that is the true greatness of a classic that it can be made new yet not loose its original joy.... its great, to be able to do this requires great musical talent and skill. kudos
like this version way more than the other. sure the cassic was great, but this one was much much better. a change of pace always makes a song a whole lot better. it was not gay, and he did not "f"-up.
If anyone can help, I am looking for a version that I heard on a classical radio station about 25 yrs ago done by a symphony. Not sure which orchestra though. It was the most beautiful version of Music Box Dancer I have ever heard, even better than that of Frank Mills, if you can believe that! If someone has something like that, plz reply to this comment, thx!
I'm looking for a version I once downloaded (and no longer available). It's sung by a woman, I think it's in German or Dutch, and it was credited to a Marion Maerz, but I don't think it's right. If anyone can help, I apprecciate it.
This was our mums favourite song 30 years ago -1979. Even though its not me playing it (although I'm sure I could if I had a piano!) I dedicate this version to her. I'm sure she would have loved this version, rolled her pants up to her knees and danced along to the middle bit! Go Carmel!
Well at first I was shocked and thought OMG what did he do to such a beautiful piece of music... then I listened again knowing what was comming and I realized he took great piece of music and interpeted in his own way just the same as a chef puts his own spin on a dish. How many meatloafs taste the same? Everyone puts their own spin on it but it is still meatloaf right? So this is still MBD but with this artist own twist, and I kind of like it .OK I'll get off my soapbox now :) Peace
I've always loved the original MBD but this interpretation is very catchy and overall quite good. The guy has guts even to try it and he works it out
To me it shows a lack of talent when someone tries to recreate a masterpiece like this one. I am so sick of people trying to recreate someone elses work.
Really? To me it shows that someone just interprets the music a little differently. The beginning of this shows his appreciation for the classic piece and then HIS spin shows how the music makes HIM feel. He wants to share that with others. But to each their own.
Like what you do to the English language? You're definitely in the minority here so what do you think you're going to accomplish with your spam other than to show you don't like good music?
Originally, Music Box Dancer was a filler piece at the tail end of a Azz Album Mills was working on. He never meant it to be the featured piece. Adding a Jazz feel to the song only compliments the fine musician Frank Mills is.
Ya, you're right! It was the B side of those tiny little albums they used to sell! What were those called? 45's? Anyway, a disc-jockey played the wrong side of the album one day, and voila...the rest is history! The radio guy got calls, and it turned out to be a huge money maker for Frank! I heard he retired in Barbados. I don't know for sure, but good for him! I'm hear looking for Paul Tobey's version of Danny Boy? I heard it's posted on YouTube but I can't find it...
I can't for the life of me understand your comments cryingnose and exxonexcuse. What do you think music is? Is it that you live to cut down those more talented than yourself?
There is nothing to understand (this is emotive not cognitive.) It is a matter of choice and preference. I do like this interpretation. It has nothing to do with my talent, of which you know absolutely nothing. Should be simple enough even for you.
It's actually a matter of insult vs. decency and not trying to impose your simplistic views of music on others. You obviously don't like it, but just because you don't doesn't mean that the music isn't good and that others who indeed love music should stop listening to suit your desires. Your talents are showing themselves. That should be simple enough even for YOU. LOL.
Yeah, I guess emotive is the right word for it. It certainly wasn't a matter of thought. It's a free internet and you can say what you want but don't be surprised when people call you out on it. When you insult an artist's work then you put your own on the chopping block as well. Put up or shut up as they say.
You know... usually I despise jazz with a vengeance... But I loved this! This is one of my favourite pieces of music and that just gave it such a fun feel. Well done!
sounds as though the music box dancer jumped off the music box and had a little fun out on the town.. I like it. Thanks every one needs a little more fun in their life at times even a little dancer..does not take any thing away from the original which will always remain etched in many of our hearts and minds
These musicians are defnitely talented, but in my heard the beauty of Music box dancer is its incredible simplicity. This seems to take something away from it for me, but thats just opinion.
When I heard this version, my initial response was WHOA. This was a song I loved when I was growing up and the jazz rendition gave it a new flair. BRAVO!!
