I installed two rails on the side and the outriggers fit to them. I ordered my rails from 80/20 on ebay I use the 1010 with sliders. the outriggers have 6 inch pip pipe on them it is a thin wall pvc pipe you just have to heat up the pvc and pinch it on the ends. Simple stuff and fun to do. I am thinking about buying a waterproof camera and doing a video. No need to spend allot of cash to have fun.
3)Hand-pull the leader line. The leader line is 50-80# test mono. Keep the leader line in the water. Keep the leader line clear from anything on the kayak. Never wrap the leader line on your hand like you do it on the big boat. You dont want to be in the water when pulled by a big fish.
4)Let go the leader line if the big fish pulls away. We already set the drag light (step 1).
5)Repeat the steps several times until the big fish is very tired.
2) Place the rod into a rod holder on the fish side. The angle of rod holder is set in such a way that the rod is leaning toward the water. This prevents rod tip from being wrapped by fishing line when the big fish frantically jerks and splash the water. And the most importantly it will prevent the rod tip from breaking.
Bring the big fish on to the kayak is a lot of work. Usually you can not see the fish clearly because the big fish will splash the water. And the big fish will takes off again and again.
Here is the sequence of landing a big fish:
1)When the big fish is close to the kayak, loosen the drag setting on the reel. Otherwise, the rod tip may break.
To make the tandem rig more effective, there are three things we do. Firstly, separate the upper and lower lure as much as possible vertically. This will put two lures in two different depths. Secondly, separate two lures horizontally as much as possible. This gives a reluctant or slow fish (striped Bass) the second chance. The upper lure will come seconds after the missed the lower lure.
The main fishing line I use was 30 # test mono. I chose 30# test mono instead of 30# super braided (like PowerPro) because on a kayak, thicker mono line is more convenient and safer than thin super braided line. I was expecting to catch a big striper at 25-35 lb. Though I can not use 50# test mono for the main fishing line, because I have to add more weight (heavier inline sinker). It is hard to tow the heavier lure.
Depths of Lure is determined by trolling speed, main fishing line thickness, Length of the main fishing line out, and weight of lures. Trolling speed is determined by the target fish (and type of lures). So the depth of lure is set. If the main fishing line is too thick, then more weight is needed for the lure. On the tandem rig, the weight of the inline sinker changes according to the all these factors.

Do you need the sail for the umbrella rig? I really wanted to try this, but dont have a sail. I do most of my fishing on the ocean. Thanks

hello
you made a dame good recording qestion can i get a 18f bass boat in the location you are in this recording?
memberson 2 years ago
Yes, 18' Bass Boat is fine at wind of 10knots.
At 12knots of wind, you can not drive the boat fast.
Over 12knot, I did not see bass boats in the bay.

Thanks for sharing your fishing tips and showing us your rig. I just put a 16 foot sail on my sea kayak. Man is this fun.

Hey SeeingAmerica,
Did you install outriggers? A 16 foot sail is Huge for any kayak. I guess you are flying.

I will talk about it after I capture the big fish on the video
Thanks,

A question about the tandem rig. The upper lure has 12 feet between the 9" shad and the metal area then to the rod.
If you reel in a fish on the upper lure how do you reel in the last 12 feet? Does that make sense?
