  • As an optometrist let me tell you, high prescriptions don't mean your eyes are not healthy. There is no correlation between the two. If your astigmatism was not there last year then this could be down to it not being picked up in the first place, or even aggressive prescribing on the part of this optometrist. If the cornea is healthy then I'd say it's one of the 2 previous scenarios.

Corneal health issues arise when patients don't listen to optometrists. Believe me I've seen it all too often

  • um, i never said that my high prescription = unhealthiness. i've always had a very high prescription almost my whole life, but healthy eyes. my eyesight was distorted back then (almost 2 years ago...)because of my dry eyes and some veins growing because of lack of oxygen, so new ones formed and it changed my vision. my actual script never changed, just my eyesight for a few months. as for me not listening to my doc, what was my noncompliance? i did everything she said to do...

  • the new blood vessels or neovascularisation was caused by the surgery or wearing the contact lenses?

  • from wearing contacts while my eyes were so dry (because of the surgery) BEFORE i went to the doctor to see about it. once i went to the doctor, she told me to quit wearing them and use drops. they didn't get significantly better after a month so i went to the corneal specialist who recommended more drops and flaxseed oil and to quit wearing contacts for a long period of time. i started wearing daily wears when my eyes started producing more tears on their own... i don't have problems now.

  • ok but you do realise the new blood vessels will never go away? Silicone hydrogel lenses will work better for your eyes both for the new blood vessels and the lack of tears. There are daily disposables out at the moment that are made of silicone hydrogel.

If you had new blood vessels before the surgery then it's overwear of contacts. Omega 3 is very good for dry eye btw.

  • which is why i'm taking flaxseed oil..

my tear production is fine now.

i've had no new vessel growth since 2 years ago... being a biologist, i'm aware that the vessel growth that happened 2 years ago won't go away.

i go to my eye dr regularly and follow her orders and recommendations. how do you know that i'm not already using daily silicone hydrogel lenses?

and i did not have new vessel growth prior to surgery. it was b/c of wearing contacts while my eyes were like the sahara after

  • ok interesting :-)

  • these problems came on suddenly because i wasn't getting in enough fluids and vitamins since i had weight loss surgery. i wore glasses for months instead of contacts, used drops for months daily, switched to daily wear contacts after those few months, started taking flaxseed oil (per my corneal specialist), and they started getting better. now, i get all my nutrients and vitamins absorbed, plus 100oz of h20 a day and my eyes are perfectly back to normal again.

  • your not alone I have horrible eyesight....

  • the result or your sacrifices is nothing else but incredible you re a queen

  • you re the most beautiful girl in glasses i ve ever seen absolutely stunting

  • aw! why thank you!

  • you re hot sweetie

  • Sorry about the last comment regarding subscribing - I got you confused with someone else. LOL Your video was a favorite of someone who subscribed and I got confused.

  • Listen, in the off chance you go completely blind (though I hope it doesn't happen) if it does, I'm more than willing to sit down (ovr the net) with you and teach you Braille if you would like to learn it or point you in the direction of relearning the computer using a screen reader or whatever you may need. I also wanted to thank you for subscribing to my videos, though I will say I was wondering who you were. LOL

  • thank you =). i don't believe i'm in danger of going blind though. i sure hope not!

  • I'm sorry about your eyes. It sucks having eye issues. I wear contacts too and glasses at night when I'm at home to give my eyes a break. I have astigmatisim too. It makes everything blurry. I hope that it doesn't get worse after surgery! My eyes tend to get dry after wearing my contacts all day, that is why I wear the glasses at night. At least you went to the doctor to get it taken care of. I hope that they heal quickely!

  • thanks! they're still dry now. but, i haven't been using my drops since i've been busy the last few days. i'm gonna wear my glasses today and see if my eyes feel better at all. i can't wait until i get my new glasses. they're so cute! i'll have to start taking my contacts out in the evening too!

  • Bless ur heart. I am so sorry. I wear glasses now. Haven't noticed a change in eyesight yet. But I will definitely let you know. This may sound crazy but have you been eating enough beta-caroteen (carrots). My mom went to the eye drs and her eyesight had improved & she laughed & said she had been eating a lot of carrots. He then said carrots will improve your eyesight. So i dunno that is what he said. You still are gorgeous Hugs, Melissa :)

  • aw, thanks. i hate carrots. LOL. it didn't seem like she thought it was because a deficiency in something.. just that somehow i burned my corneas. it's so weird. agh!

  • So did it have something to do with your surgery or is that unknown still? I hope your eyes mend quickly!! :(

  • it's unknown. that's kinda why i put this out there. hoping that someone else had/has eye problems too. she thinks it's a chemical burn from lab. but, it's not definite. thanks!!! me too. these glasses are driving me nuts.

  • You are the type that can really pull off looking cute in glasses. Not everyone can. I have had 20/20 vision my whole life but recently I have noticed my eyes are starting to blur here and there. I hope it has nothing to do with my pre-diabetes. I need to get my eyes checked as well. It has been a while since I have them checked and I am defiantly experiencing a change in my vision. I can't wait to see your new glasses.

  • thanks! and yes. you need to get your eyes checked. my grandmother went for a normal eye appt and found out that she had diabetes. so, it very well may be related to your pre-diabetes. you need to get it checked out ASAP. =)

  • Hey Nikki! There is a wonderful vitamin by Bauch and Lomb (sp) specifically for your eyes. You may want to try that one. I got it for my dad. Hope that helps. Can't wait to see your new glasses.

  • oh yay! i had no idea there are vits out there just for your eyes. that's awesome. thank you for mentioning it!!
