The problem is you can't prove a negative . You can't say that we toruted and received intel that saved americans because there is no way to know if the intel we received was truw. Thanks, of course Bush and his cronies created the torture policy in 2003, but I really can't remember any Democrats raising any objection until Obama took office and ended the policy. As soon as it became a big media issue, the Democrats had to jump on the anti-torture bandwagon. But they are not going to prosecute, because they are also responsible. If it was so reprehensible to them, why didn't they raise hell about it before.

The problem is you can't prove a negative . You can't say that we toruted and received intel that saved americans because there is no way to know if the intel we received was truw. Also it has come to light that the good intel we received we got before the waterboarding began back when the FBI was in charge. And once you begin there is no way to go back to a different means of getting intel. And as with KSM I'd say after he was waterboarded the first 30 times any after that was to torture!

I think it comes down to the purpose of the torture. Al Qaida tortured westerners.... chopped off their heads, tied their bodies to the back of trucks and dragged them through the streets, hung bodies from street overpasses.... etc. WHY? What was their purpose for doing those things?
Now we "tortured" (I use that word for sake of discussion) prisoners by simulating drowning, playing loud music for hours, etc.. WHY? To try and gain information that would prevent future terrorist acts.

Even the *assumption* that they possess information (the so-called ticking atom bomb scenario) is always speculative.
To know something like that for sure you already have to have the information.
