Hi there everyone, I've been saving money to get this awsome synth, but I came across with the Korf X50, so, I just want to know if anyone know the differences between the X50 and Micro X, I think they share a lot of things, but I want to make sure that I'm gettin my money worth, I will really appreciate your help :D
@Goatchrist666 I understand that the sample libraries in the MicroX and X50 are similar but not identical. I have also read that the MicroX patches have more of a slant toward dance/trance and world music, but do not know this from personal experience.
ok ive watched all of your demos on this and this thing is amazing. one question, how do you actually use it? i mean i know it come with factory sounds but what do you hook up to it to hear it and all of that? thnx and great job!
@CSTNgeek I make recordings using Digital Performer software on my Mac. I use Event studio monitors to hear it. If you want to play it in a band or with other musicians, I would suggest a larger keyboard and a couple of powered PA speakers.
Hey dude, Thank you for these, it's awesome how much work you've put in here!
Does the Micro X do a solid Hammond into a Leslie organ tone? I'm looking to work organ sounds into my recording and i really can't break the bank right now.
If not would you recommend the micro X for post-processing in an organ simulator on my computer?
@jumpshipdrown Look, all of these things are terribly subjective. There are lots of organ sounds in the Micro X, and one person's fave is another person's disaster. Me, I'd give them overall "B", not the best I've heard, but certainly not the worst.
@keybdwizrd Thanks very much for the reply, I'm looking to buy one locally for about $350 Australian, and taking into account your opinion I'll probably be taking it me thinks. Might have to get a proper organ later down the track, but this should do nicely for home recording!
First: AWESOME VIDEOS MAN! Thank you for showing those great patches, and nice playing!
I'm a bass player, but i love synthesizers and im kinda new to that world. I'm looking for a synth that emulates the sound of a Mellotron (or anything related to vintage sounds)
Would you recommend this one?
Where can i get a cheap but nice synth like this?
@mortifago Thanks. There are plenty of vintage synth sounds in the Micro X but not sure about mellotrons. In any case, I believe Korg has discontinued these so you may have to poke around the net or try ebay.
@keybdwizrd Yeah, i noticed its a discontinued instrument (sadly). Is there another synth with nice vintage sounds like this (MicroKorg X) out there that i can buy (not discontinued) And for a nice price?
i have a microkorg and i want to upgrade i was thinking in a r3 but i would need more money, do u rcomend me this better than the microkorg of if i get more money whats better the r3 or this
@MorbidCarlox r3 is not really worth it over MK. it has more features, but the MK engine (MS2K) sounds better than the r3s (radias). However, a full blown radias would be worthwhile
As I recall the MicroX has two arpeggiators, so one can be used for a drum loop and the other could be playing a bass pattern, for example. But these are arpeggiators and not sequencers so you can't program anything too long, so you basically just get a repeating pattern. You can, however, then play leads on top of those arp parts.
i see that u kno how to play the keyboard very well
my question is, do u need to know how to play a piano keyboard in the proper manner in order to play this keyboard?
im not trying to say that i'll be hitting just any random keys.. i do have some basic knowledge about a keyboard, however im not experienced enough to play with 2 hands or read music notes fast enough
I am a personal believer in the benefits of being able to play the keyboard as well as possible. But there seem to be plenty of people who buy these things and just fiddle with the sounds, I dunno. YMMV.
Well, maybe because it comes with lots of fun sounds and is inexpensive, but it only has 25 keys, which is quite a limitation. You might want to take a look at the Korg X50, which is a very similar instrument, but has 61 keys. Similarly priced alternatives would be the Roland Juno-D or Yamaha MM6.
Thanks... I've actually never played a Prophecy, but I'd like to. Ken Macbeth (Macbeth Studio Systems) has one or more, and given that he builds modular synths I think this is interesting. Different beast than the Micro X, though, because the Prophecy is monophic, I think.
Hello Wizard. Are the delay and reverb FX your using on this demo onboard the MicroX, or are you using the Lexicon used on your other demos? Thanks JB
Hi Michael. I noticed some early adopters are selling their MicroX's after not much more than 3 months. Some bought it on a whim, or the keyboard's too small, or the sounds aren't suited for my kind of music.
I'm buying one second hand anyway but i would like a second opinion.
Is there something i should mind when using this as an instrument for performing / composing?
:) Thank you also for posting these informative video's and i enjoyed
Sorry for the delay in responding to this... I suspect that Korg has sold a zillion of these because of the low price, so hence there are more on the used market. I also imagine that lots of people find the small keyboard quite limiting - it really needs to be played by something with more keys. Ideally, for me, the MicroX would be available in a rack module version.
Thanks for posting these cool demos. I have a MicroX and I liked hearing you demo it to refresh my memory on how to best use some of the patches. Very benevolent to use many of the existing patches to show what it can do right out of the box. I'd be curious to hear some of your favorite original programs/combos if you have some you'd like to show-off. (or let me know if you have already on another post)
Thanks. I barely have enough time event to play my synths, so I don't get into much original programming. I do lots of tweaking on the Virus TI and Moogs because all of the front panel knobs makes it easy.
alright, im satisfied with the sounds and the sound quality of this beast. i recently bought one and was disapointed to find that if i dropped this, it would be the end of that. do you know if korg makes or anybody makes a coat of armor(shell) for this beast in which i hope to join in battle with someday?
The Micro X comes with several acoustic piano presets. I don't believe they're among the best I've ever heard, but they're probably workable for an ensemble/band situation. Also, It is challenging to play pianist-ically on a 25-key keyboard. But I'll be sure to include in the next vid. Thanks.
I also played this at the local music store, it was hooked up to a great seet of monitors and sounded amazing. I must agree though, very flimsy build but what a sound, my goodness :)
The price tag for this in canada is : around $649.00 which isn't bad for the sounds by themselves :)
I agree with the wizard on build quailty, it looks cool but when you touch it! very plastic! the knobs feel cheap but it would cost alot more if that was improved :) you still get great sounds for your money
Pros: Great sounds, lots of great factory patches, easy to program with included software, portable, inexpensive. Cons: Lightweight build quality can come off as cheap, very small keyboard, bothersome to program sounds using only onboard screen.

Hi! Is it possible to run several programms, like a background sequence, bass, lead, Arpeggiator, all at the same time?
I mean, can I programm all these things in a chronological order and just play a lead to this?

What are your thoughts on MicroX vs R3 ?
joshmobsters 3 years ago
I think there's nothing going to happen, since synthesizers aren't alive and can't fight each other.
HammondB200 3 years ago
The R3 is great for techno synth sounds.
The Micro X is better for recreating instrument sounds and stuff.
R3 = Mini Radius
mX = Mini Triton
