I lost all my friends when i hit puberty, and i havn't been able to get any since. I'm slower than others at cooking/writing/reading and when i do schoolwork i'm much slower than the others. I'm physically clumsy. My heart beats fast. When people tell me to do something i won't understand it as at all, though other people easily understands it. It feels like i have a different personality in me that i can't use when i'm suposed to be using it. Any idea what this may be? :(

I have Asperger's syndrome. And this videos kind of highlighted the situation I am in. When he said " was that polite?", It reminds me of a very similar situation I am in my home with my mother. I find it rather difficult to interact socially with people. I also find it difficult to explain my disorder to other people who do not know what it is.

@mgvideos1000 Well said. I'm in my mid 20s and likewise have Asperger's. I'm on the milder side of the spectrum and very rarely are people able to figure out that I have Asperger's on their own. It's kind of scary how frequently people think that people with Asperger's are all the same.

The best way to explain this is the way the autism spectrum disorders are rated in severity. You can have Autism 1,2,3...9,10 or Asperger's 1,2,3,4,5. This is obviously AS 4 or 5. I have seen low functioning Autism and this is not it. Low functioning individuals tend to never speak, if he were low functioning his motor skills would be too bad for him to even attempt shaving. I couldn't pick up a pencil when I was younger and I have high functioning ASD. I think he knows whether he has AS or not.
This is not AS, my son is 14 and has been shaving himself since he was 13, if it is AS shame on those parents for not showing him how to be independant.

@ASDspecialist I have plenty of experience with this, as I've been trying to get this help for years now. Over here the recent years saw an increase of such "services", but they focus mostly on children and adolescents. Adults with ASD are facing problems too, and help is hard to find if they're on their own. With the European economical climate our only real chance at a job is through programs specifically for people with ASD. But getting info on them is difficult and places are limited.

i have aspergers and i am not this low functioning. i can shave my legs and if the phone rings i don't stop what i'm doing to go answer it. most likely i would have the ringer off because it would upset me/interfere with daily life.

Every aspie is different it doesn't give you the right to declare yourself as better then him just because you can do a few simple things you can't. But how it affects the son, daughter and father is different.

@toyy7675 You misunderstand genetics.A sex linked disorder is a disorder caused by a mutation on the X or Y chromosomes. There are many different types of mutations. The Y chromosome is passed directly from father to son and mutations on this chromosome will only affect boys. The X chromosome is a little different. A boy receives one of his mother's two X chromosomes. If that X chromosome has a recessive disorder causing mutation on it, he will have that disorder.

For example, color blindness is passed from mother's to son's because of this. A female would have to receive two mutated X chromosomes to be colorblind. One from her mother and one from her father, so this rarely happens. A dominant sex linked mutation on the X chromosome effect men and women and are always inherited.

@SepherStar Non-sex linked genetic disorders are called autosomal. They can be dominant or recessive as well, depending on the type of mutation. Chromosomes come in pairs called alleles and those alleles contain genes. You receive half of these alleles from your mother and half from your father. A dominant disorder requires a mutation on one of these alleles. There is a 50% chance of passing it on to a child and usually a family history of it. A recessive mutation requires a mutation on both.

It is often hard for young adults on the spectrum to get help in the way of "services" due to not being disabled "enough" to qualify. It can help for parents to help their teen or young adult develop routines, in which they are doing as much as they can on their own (such a shaving themselves rather than being shaved in this example), even if they don't do a perfect job.

@ASDspecialist I have plenty of experience with this, as I've been trying to get this help for years now. Over here the recent years saw an increase of such "services", but they focus mostly on children and adolescents. Adults with ASD are facing problems too, and help is hard to find if they're on their own. With the European economical climate our only real chance at a job is through programs specifically for people with ASD. But getting info on them is difficult and places are limited.
