Human prosperity & poverty reduction? You must be joking! Citizens of Trinidad & Tobago are paying highly for this Summit. The Manning government has hung its hat where it could't reach & plundered the country's coffers, and now the citizens are suffering with high taxes, police harassment, government corruption, social injustices, and discrimination. When the Indian Prime Minister was in government the country was running better. Now Manning wants to get rid of Panday for good. Need a change!

u are right, i generalized a lot in my comment, there are exceptions. but the impression that i got when i was in america (northwest indiana, close to chicago) was, that hardly anyone was comfortable with dealing with political issues of international matter. if i compare that with the students in my home country i must say, that most of them are more competent in these topics. and i think that it is quite important to be interested in politics to avoid future conflicts and people like g.w.bush

well by saying uncomfortable i meant incompetent. the point i wanted to make in the first place, though, was not to insult americans (although i obviously did...) but to critizise the refusal of such a video as it is posted here. instead of just dismissing it, people should see the positive message of such a video. it shows that countries are willing to work together against violence and all that crap. obama made the first step for this by offering his cooperation to cuba, which is a good thing.

We shouldn't consider their plight trivial or denegrate efforts to improve their lives, we should instead consider them as our brothers and sisters of the Americas and take pride in working to make all of our lives better. I was dumb ... no excuse ... the more you travel and the more people you meet, the more you realize how much the same we all are. Visited the former Yugoslavia (Montenegro) back in 1989 and realized how similar to Trinidad and Tobago the people were - playing 'small goal post' in the streets with no shoes and all, a real eye opener. We we 'feel' superior its only because we have an underlying inferiority complex I think. Proud to be inferior now ... LOL ...

Well, I guess feeling superior (very different from BEING superior) is a positive step to feeling better about oneself and to try and overcome those neverrending cold, grey and rainy days, where the sun just don't shine - but hell, you can't privatise the sun (not yet anyway).

I mean, I did actually meet these curious individuals who lived in an estate in newcastle, and yes, they were convinced they were superior. I just felt like hugging them and patting their heads... "yes of course you are"

My impression is that, as long as we carry on being the victims of these "dimensional" (superior/inferior/bigger/bett­er/faster) criteria, we will be kept separate - convenient only to the market leaders, who see themselves in our isolation, as providers of supermarket product-satisfaction.

I can understand - if people bonded intensely, they wouldn't spend so much time at the supermarket, rather than on the beach, in bed, round the table.
