FANTASTIC! I'd known Big Jay from just one record, his wonderful blues song, "There's Something on Your Mind" from 1957. (Many artists did excellent covers, such as Etta James and BB King.) Only today did I learn that he's a tenor sax great, and the vocals on "Something" were by Little Sonny Warner. YouTube is such a wonderful creation. Thanks for posting this. Long live this great music.
@googuse In England us spazzy white people clap on the 2 and 4, The 1 and 4 thing seems to be curiously European, as does clapping with apparantly no concern for the timing of the tune! But as long as they're enjoying it! ;)
Saw Big Jay and Detroit Gerry Wiggins at the Klimperkasten in Aschaffenburg, Germany in 1989...Tore the roof off the place, peeled the paint off the walls. Incredible perfomers!!!
That was great. I was just thinking about the album "honkers and screamers" which I bought 30 years ago and wondered if Big Jay McNeelly would be on youtube! :-)
This so great!!!! when i have a off day i just watch this and i feel good again!!!!!great tenor playing!!! and so funny those great players screaming and honking at those tables....hahah cant stop smiling
Amazing, Astounding, Wonderful, Great!!!! Thank You, Thank You, And Thank You Again. Until This Video Was Posted I Had Been Desperately Searching For Footage Of Big Jay McNeely. I Hope To see Him Live Soon.
I saw a documentary that had him as one of the featured guys, and it blew my mind what a bad bad man he was, and how nobody I knew had ever really heard of him. You can't tell me this guy isn't worth the price of admission anywhere he shows -- wonder if he has an understudy that will keep it going! Thanks for sharing!
excellent!!!!!!!......

That was great, the poor other tenor player had to play
basically chords to whole tune, but somehow it worked, if he was getting paid for the number of low Bbs he had
played, he must be a millionaire.
That was cool, Jay threw in "Holiday for Strings in his solo"
