  • STILL GREAT!!!!

  • This song.as well as all Seger songs from this era....bring back such fond...and irreplaceable memories....TY for trip down memory lane!!! BOB SEGER is my # 1 entertainer of all time....bar NONE!!!

  • On this date in 1980 {Feb. 23rd} "Fire Lake" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; evenually it peaked at #6 and spent 16 weeks in the Top 100...

    Ranked 67th on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1980 chart...

Reached #4 on the Canadian Singles chart

Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles sang back-up on this record...

  • I guess 8s and aces are known as the 'dead man's hand'.

  • Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" song is similar to this in some ways.

  • Great vid! I'm glad you put up some info about the song. Now I know why I especially liked it, since I love The Eagles so much. Liked the pic of "Muscle Shoals." I heard that mentioned in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama," but I never knew what they were talking about.

  • @ChocolateMyrrh LOL That's always been a problem, even in Alabama. The Swampers were kind of like the power behind the throne of so many of music's greatest. You wouldn't know who they were until they started playing. One day giving a country rock performance for Fire Lake, then a R&B groove for I'll Take You There, then a bombastic style for Come To Papa or a disco-beat for When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman. They never met anything they couldn't master immediately.

  • @kperk014 I would have never guessed they played on all those diverse sounding songs. I looked them up and they played on "Kodachrome" too, one of my all time fave songs. I was going to ask how you know all this stuff, but then I read your channel. I really like your vids.

  • Gang, could ya PLEASE refrain from cussin', when ya make yer comments? Little kids imitate what they read!

  • This is one very "gorgeous" video. =p

  • I guess Bob recorded it WITHOUT the Silver Bullet Band. My mistake!

  • @DaveWollenberg Through the 70s, a large number of Seger's greats were recorded with the Swampers. He could cut a record with them in 2 or 3 takes instead of 2 or 3 weeks. They were practically automatic.

  • Bob and the SBs hit #6 in Billboard, 5-3-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week!

  • Always one of the better songs on the jukebox when I was a bar-hopping whiskey drinker some 30 years ago.

My...How times have changed. There was a time when it didn't feel right if I wasn't fighting and fucking with a different partner every night. Getting tossed from bars with the entire clientele in tow wasn't out of the ordinary.

Now, I can hardly even get past beer #3, looking outside the box isn't an option to wisely consider, and I now longer so sportingly court trouble...sigh

  • Song is about taking risks in life, whatever it may be.

  • awesome

  • This video is popular on Kampala

  • Incredible....I still can remember when I first heard this way back in 1980. Every time I hear it now, I can still picture myself as a 15 year old in Colorado hearing it for the first on a Denver radio station.

  • Now that's a brother with soul, singin' str8 from the heart, my main man B.Seger !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • which album was this on?????

  • I was born in '71'. I used to go over my uncle's house in the early 80's and he would crank this song as we built muscle car models. I just turned 40 and have now figured out what the word "bittersweet" really means. I love this song.

  • @sherman546 I feel ya!!

  • my favorite seger song

  • Its not about sadness...

  • have always loved this tune

  • i have 2 favorite bobs song *mainstreet *and *her strut*

  • Love Ya Bob!!! Keep Rockin!!!

  • Today I became Uncle Joe. Fuck you Sarah.

  • This is the ONLY Bob Seger song that moves me like it does. I get goose bumps listening to it; especially when the Eagles come in with harmony.

  • fire a fat one up!!

  • As long as Joe went to Fire Lake and not Fire Island...ROFL!

  • I remember this song as i was growing up listening to it and now that i'm grown makes me realize how precious life can be at it's hardest, just brings tears to my eyes just listenig to the lyrics especially about uncle Joe.

  • @MrZeph101 Me too man, carry on.

  • wwwgreatbuyoutletscom wwwtopfuelsavercom

  • @czech698

  • great song got the greast hits cd and listen to it all the time.

  • Anyone notice that there talking about Hell?

  • @Dwill187 yeah I did, kind of creepy cause they ask who wants to go too fire lake, BUT if you want too hear creepy song look up W.A.S.P --sleeping in the fire,

  • @thundermaster41 Yeah, I have to admit that if I wasn't aware of the power music hold, I would listen to that song (WASP) like 24/7, great beat & the way they sing, But yes, It is creepy, Music is getting more demanding, rather than asking. Have you heard the new Metallica & Lou Reed song LULU? It kind of made me sad, I mean, Metallica is one of my favorites bands, but to be so straight forward in destruction & Satan... Sad.

  • It reminds me of being a child!! My dad listened to this!! It makes me sad I'm not young like that anymore but happy that I still enjoy it!! Love me some Bob Seger!!

  • This always reminds me of the old Rolling Thunder MC guys from around Seneca, SC way back in the day. Raisin a cold one to ya.

  • @kaninz a snowball?

  • best song by bob seger

  • @ibisjeff Amen brother.

  • "Who's go'nna ride that chrome three-wheel? Who's go'nna make that first mistake? Who wants to wear gypsy leather... all the way to Fire Lake."

"Who want's to take that long-shot gamble and head out to fire lake?" Hear the Eagles singing in the background... they jump right out at ya! Yea, it's a 70's song, a'course, but not released 'till '80.

  • OMG!! I absolutely LOVE this song reminds me of my home Boston

  • My dad thought music like Seger was hippie music, he'd listen to Waylon and Willie though...they certainly kept up with most "Rock Stars" lifestyles of excess (pot, booze, women, whatever). Now he's in his seventies, listens to Amazing Grace, so Turn the Page!

  • timeless song.

  • Great song, as I reminds me of my hometown. Swimming at Fire Lake with my family in Moberly Lake, B.C.

  • Mandatory? Are you the one to decide what is mandatory? What an ass you seem when you say such stupid things.

Mandatory? Are you the one to decide what is mandatory? What an ass you seem when you say such thins. Take a look at your self.

  • who wants to play those 8's and aces......EPIC

  • why don't they make this music these days???

  • Muscle Shoals pic is missing the great Pete Carr...........lead guitarist.

  • @bricktop43 Yeah I haven't found any photos where they were altogether. Pete's guitar sound was so important to the Seger sound. If anyone has a pic or two of the Swampers with Pete Carr, don't be selfish. lol

  • to this day I can remember my brothers friend gave me a tape of all these songs recorded off the radio: i still remember to this day BILLY JOEL's "Border Line", Van Halen "Everybody wants some", this song, Gary Numan "Cars", and even pink floyd another brick in the wall SEGUE both versions....

  • the coolest thing ever is my band covered this songhe exact ame studio thats fuckin awesome

  • @russem4 only god is to be bowed to. bob segar is a living legend and brings tears to my eyes.my younger sister died nov,7 2003. one of her songs was turn the page. i do love the mans music!

  • this IS TUNEAGE,YOU KNOW ALL THE YOUNG DUDES OF TADAY THAT DONT KNOW WHAT GOOD TUNEAGE IS,HELL WRITING THIS MY HANDS ARE KEEPING TIME TO THE BEAT OF THIS,HELL THESE WERE THE DAYS AND KNOW WHAT THE HELL I MISS,AND TODAY DONT EVEN SCRATCH THE SURFACE,DAM SAD

  • great song

  • I saw bob seger open up for van halen, he stole the show, no easy feat..

  • he gets only one name BOB thats a big deal everybody gets it the first time !!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This song makes me want to ride my harley to a good bike rally love Bob Segar

  • After 31 years, this song always bring back to 1980 the day I met my future wife, Doreen Chalifoux. it will always bring back the good times when we were young and with all our dear friends. Times flies but memories are always a yesterday and never fade.

  • @TheKepatchaoski I'm really glad for you. Personally I have trouble remembering what I did this morning but great songs like this DO help a little.

  • @TheKepatchaoski I always remember this song through my dad!! I don't see him now. But I always remember when I was a little girl ... And he'd dance with me to this song!!! Good times... Good memories!!

  • @TheKepatchaoski Doreen was the shit back in the day

  • Interestingly enough...I have met Bob Seger and Van Morrison at a Detroit Pistons game in 1989. I have met Glen Frey b4 too at a lumberyard that I worked at in 1982 - owned by a guy who went to High School with him at Royal Oak!

Yah...I Know! Revelation 21:8...cowards don't like it! Most Americans and Brits don't realize that most of them are Tribe of Joseph either! Say Yah to da' U.P. 2 - A' as dat mitten reaches to da' BRANCH of DAVID...instead of da' toilet lever dat flushes DETROILET!

  • Always liked this song.

  • Bob was one of the last "true" country rockers. In the 60s and 70s,rock was how you live. But in the 80s and 90s,entertainers like M.Jackson and G.Brooks turned the music world into pop-entertainment,and there were nothing to learn from their music.

  • brings lotsa memories back in my teenage years.Bob Seger rocs

  • @mikeymikelovesyou Man, those were great times too! Make that some of the best times of my life! His music is simply timeless!

  • nice.....

    "bob's definately the MAN ! "

  • ok Wayne where are you?????????????????????????

  • Fire lake is actually Silver lake near Hell, Michigan

  • man, i remember being a kid and hearing music like this....EXCELLENT music with great singing, great backing vocals, and i couldn't wait to get older to hear whoever was doing great stuff like this myself. didn't happen. music this good...just didn't stick around as much. i mean really...

how many bands you know out now have guys in them good enough to do great backing vocals for another great singer? who can put/weave it all together like this....

  • growing up in southern minnesota, we used to sing it as "who wants to go to prior lake?"

  • @fishkabby we have a prior lake in victoria bc canada..

    its a nudist beach....

    hha

  • I'd bump Seger ahead of Bruce.

  • Please don't tell poor aunt Sarah, but I REALLY WANT to go to fire lake! I'm gonna do it too. :)

  • 2 douchebags didn't like this video or song

  • @fatjec make that 3

  • i just want to eat a pig on a spit wooooohhoooooooooo

  • @fatjec ..~~ mmm yum....me too !!

  • @patrikandersson123 , check out still the same.

  • And yet the angels with their harps stand within water mingled with fire. Go figure. Those bible writers weren't without their sense of humour.

  • Magic moment... thanks..Roberto....italy..

  • I'm here because of Colbert.

WHO WANTS TO GO TO FIRE LAKE?!

  • @ellen3367 yo i like colberts version of singing better hahahaa

  • Where do bad folks go when they die?

    FIRRRE LAKE!

  • Bob and the band hit #6 in Billboard, 5-3-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I posted the Something About You video as a what-if.In 1977 the man who played lead guitar on so many of Seger's hits,Pete Carr started a band.Their first album was pretty successful so they hit the road, opening for Skynyrd.Van Zant had offered Pete and Lenny seats on the plane but they turned them down to avoid trouble in their own band.Within the first month the plane crashed. What if Pete had gotten on the plane?Without him,how would Fire Lake,Famous Final Scene etc have sounded without him?

  • It should be mandatory that EVERYONE has to grow up to this music.

  • @anx420 What? Instead of "eh, eh" or "I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock?" Now THAT'S great music! LOL

  • @anx420 wow, yeah I could not agree more. This wasn't exactly my generation's music but I grew up with a lot of it and I appreciate it in a way that I don't think a lot of newer music deserves to be.

  • @anx420 yea but instead we get the shit they do today

  • @anx420 , I so agree with you, awesome music !

  • @anx420 Or if it's too late for that, madatory that they grow old to it!

  • @anx420 Agreed...and mandatory that they NOT listen to Bieber or Gaga foolishness!

  • @sweenykim I've got Bieber Fever and I'm gaga for Gaga! Best artists (EVER)

  • I'd totally forgotten about this song until I watched a segment of the Colbert Report where he started singing a medally of Bob Seger songs to Jack White. I've listened to the song numerous times now and still don't know why the lyrics have such an effect on me. Sometimes we have to be reminded what a potent songwriter Bob Seger can be.

  • @madahad9 It's kinda like some of Paul McCartney's songs. You don't quite know what he's talking about but it still sounds so darn good!

  • @kperk014 i know....

  • @madahad9 OMG I JUUUUST got on youtube to look this song up cuz of that episode lolol

  • @madahad9 - I have been listening to it continuously since seeing that Colbert episode! lol

  • @madahad9 that's actually a really easy reason, Bob's music has always played on events that have happened in our lives that are identical to his music. The names are different and maybe the events are a bit different but not by much. I had a uncle named Artie who abandoned my aunt carrie (artie was blood) and no one wanted to tell her he had split back for Alabama to my grandpa there. (who wants to break the news about uncle joe, the one affraid to cut the cake a metaphor for marriage)

  • What is this song about?

  • 2 people are goin skinny dipping in fire lake! XD

  • Ahhh the memories! Teenage camping on the Gold Coast, Qld!

  • Who wants to go to Caddo Lake? lol

  • 2 people don't want to go to Fire Lake....thats ok,more beer for the rest of us!

  • Who wants to go to fire Lake....

I got the beer and the ACOUSTIC

  • thank you.....brings back my Father in my mind......"All the way to fir lake"

  • WOW!!!!! i LOVE THIS GUY.....HE DID HIS OWN THING!

  • @trishalovesHIM he did it detroit style!

  • Going to see Bob next week! Yay me! I sure hope he plays this.

  • how can anybody dislike this!!? def.

  • Guys chill out it doesnt matter its a great song. It reminds me of vacations on the lake in northern michigan when I was a kid. The contents of the song reminds me of all the good times I had with my relatives. It brings back memories every time I here it, I live out west now and concerts are disappointing in comparison to "Detroit Rock City". You havent' been to a concert until you go to one in Detroit flonite

  • love the songggg

  • love it!

  • Amazing Song.So perfect!

  • 1 person needs to be dipped in fire lake awsome song man

  • Bob did this on there own. And its great. Also do you know his life. I feel deep love with this song .

  • @speedracer4077 It's always good to hear from Bob's brother. No one has said he didn't do this on his own. But ask yourself this question: Why did he invite Frey, Henley, and Schmidt to sing background on this song? I'm sure, since Bob is his own man and all, that no one twisted his arm. They are pals and the song has that country rock sound that the Eagles were known for before Hotel California. Not only did Frey co-write a Seger song but Seger also co-wrote Heartache Tonight.

  • @kperk014 Also, Seger said Fire Lake was "totally and unequivocally unlike anything I'd ever done before." In fact he started writing it all the way back in 1972 when he and Frey were working in Muscle Shoals. Maybe being in Alabama rubbed off on both of them. Personally I'm glad he did dabble a little in country. If not we may have never heard Shame On The Moon which is one of his greatest performances.

  • @kperk014 Seger and Frey go way back and are still friends today.. Infact Frey one of the few Seger has remained close to and colaborated with in song and music.. These guys write songs - they help one another to a degree as well.. It's a bitch of a business with a few things that keep the sanity - a long time friendship is one of em vs pointless competing in what is essencially an Art . peace

  • @veribull I agree. It's strange how quickly people get their backs up when you mention that Bob actually has a few friends and collaborators in the business. Thank God they collaborated on this Seger song and once again on the Eagles' song Heartache Tonight. Without their collaboration, neither song may have been as great as they are.

  • Bob did this on there own. And its great. Also do you know his life.

  • Bob did this on ther own. And its great. Also do you know his life.

  • I'm ashamed to see the way some of you are talking here in a Bob Seger comment section. Completely ashamed and disgusted. Namecalling. Nasty posts. That's what this song brings out in you? That's the best way to handle things? I had more hope for people, but you folks that lower yourselves like this make me sick, and sad.

  • i love this song. just discovered bob. I've never heard of him before. Beautiful voice. Any suggestions of other great songs by bob?

  • @patrikandersson123 Live Bullet, Nine Tonight, The Distance (albums). Anything off of them. He's great live.

  • i love this song. just discovered bob. I've never heard of him before. Beautiful voice. Any suggestions of other great songs by bob?

  • i will grave those bronze beautys lieng in sun lol

  • Seger does not NEED to imitate anyone, he is his own.

  • @lynnibenni Not sure where you conjured up the notion that I said Seger was imitating ANYONE! I'm beginning to have serious worries about some of you.

  • better than arcade fire

  • most unde- rated artits ever! Uncle Bob is Rock n' roll no question!

  • Just a great song. I love it!

  • My uncles name was Joe. But I don't believe he went to fire lake.

  • My uncles name was Joe.But I don't believe he went to fire lake.

  • @icepikoftime If he didn't go to heaven, then he went to fire lake!

Eights & Aces, makes me believe, when you hold the 'dead mans'

hand, you are going to fire lake.

Actually for most people, it's going to be an improvement on their

    life.

  • I heard this song right after a boat ride in OBX last year. Kinda funny, as the sunset was shining on the sea.

  • @ Plan Tonto...I agree with your Bob eagles comment. Bob was his own man and collaborated with other musicians. This is still going on with Kid Rock, et al. Fire Lake is up there with my Segar favs....

  • Golly Gee i know I loved this song more than usual, its got some freakin eagles in it, I love slipping on my ipod and a earbud and flying down the road on my bike in the summertime to this jangle, 2:32 on OMG gooooose bumps

  • @Milkm4n2005 You'd better watch out! Some people here will think you're dissing Bob. I don't know why but they will.

  • I appreciate your post of this video, but Bob Seeger was his own man, he did not try to imitate The Eagles...A lot of his songs were centered around the Biker Lifestyle, of which, The Eagles had nothing to do with...As I said, thanx for the upload, but with all due respect, get real...

  • @PlanTonto With all due respect maybe you should study a little before posting. Bob Seger and Glenn Frey (of guess who?) started collaborating in Muscle Shoals in the early '70s. If you can't hear the Eagles in that song you need to get real. No one (except you) has said anything about imitating anyone.

  • @kperk014 The Eagles are more than Glen Frey as is the Beatles is more than Paul McCartney...It's a collbaration, a chemistry between the Eagles members that made the Eagles, regardless that Glen jammed with Bob. But not here to argue, just to listen to good music and this is a fabulous song, thanks again for the upload!

  • @PlanTonto I still don't understand how you think I said Seger was imitating the Eagles. Makes NO SENSE. But we do agree that it's a great song nonetheless and that the Seger-Frey connection was beneficial to me because they co-wrote one of my favorite songs of all time called "That Girl" sung by Frey. I did have it posted but I guess Wounded Bird Records thought I was making them go broke so it got yanked.

  • love this song......so much meaning to it......

  • Of course one idiot had to dislike

  • best song from Bob !!!

  • bob seeger is great

  • See, simplistic, and sounds great too, great song.

  • no matter what a video would be from these guy's. Bob Seger is the best soulful man in the world love love love him since i was2 yrs old now im 34 got me this far doing something right....

  • ONE OF THE TOP TEN OF BOB'S BEST SONGS FOR SURE

  • Good song, good memories.

  • Thanks for the stereo quality sound and I'm trying to figure out why somebody on one of those poker show//tournaments hasn't said that he had to go to fire lake instead of all in

  • GREAT SONG!

  • Billboard's #67 song of '80. Bob and the band hit #6 pop, #31 AC, in Billboard. God bless!

  • It looks like 1 person was afraid to cut the cake. You are no longer welcome at Fire Lake.
