Well, I belive that the cleaver symbolizes Viral, just like Gurren and Lagann symbolize Simon and Kamina in a way. A cleaver shows raw power and messy cutting. Kinda like Viral, lol. It is also an uncommon weapon to be used in battle. It's gets the job done but in it's own way.
