Peters father committed suicide moment before this song happens and his Mum is remember all the strength she had to muster up in order to keep "flying high and proud"
In the musical, the boy from oz, she sings this when the father is drunk and shoots himself. The small boy is "Young Peter Allen" and the ladie is the mother.
This is in the 2nd act, near the 2nd. If you ever get a chance, go and see a theatre show of it.
I never saw the Boy from Oz on Broadway--it was during my BAD year when I was unable to travel. I must bet this was the greatest musical of all time--perhaps beside or above Xanadu and Hairspray! Does anyone have this incredible moment so I can download it to my Blackberry and watch Mme. Beth over and over again?
I knew this song from Melissa Manchester!!, what a surprise it was from Mr Allen!!!

This version is a pale comparision of the fantastic Colleen Hewett rendition.

Peter Allen's father committed suicide when he was a young boy.
This is a tribute to his life and music the ups and downs of a great Australian musician and composer.
Who died in the 1990's and Hugh Jackman portrayed Peter Allen in the musical The Boy From Oz a reference to Australia.

I am greatful that Peter Allen is being remembered and his music lives on.
That man got me through a divorce and a good bye.
The loss of someone I loved who when asked said she couldn't marry me.
All these years later I remember her and yet if I had married I never would have traveled and seen the world.
She is a mum now and happy but I think of her often as the what if girl.

Good performance although her accent sometimes sounds more like 'Oliver' than Boy From Oz.

I saw this when it was on b'way - being from the UK it was great to see New York and even better to catch Hugh in the show.
I waited behind Stage Door and have a very blurry cam of him accepting autographs and a fellow aussie giving him a native sweet(candy)
It was one of the best musicals I have ever seen (bar WE WILL ROCK YOU)
It is such a shame that I only got to see it once, a masterpiece!

This brought me to tears when I saw it on Broadway during previews. I'm so happy to see it again.
