I sometimes wish one of my grandmothers were like Jon's grandmother. The way she scatted on "O Christmas Tree" made me wish that was what that song should sound like.
i always watched this with my grandparents on Christmas eve. I miss my grandma especially at Christmas. We still continue to have Christmas eve at Grandpa's even though grandma is gone.
this is such a great show! one of the christmas highlights in my childhood... i just love the scene with grandma and garfield.. very touching. and that song is great too! wish i could get the sheet music for it...
p,s- the voice of grandma is also the voice of ursula the sea witch in the little mermaid.
Oh man, that song really tugs at my heart. So many memories watching this as a child. This is definitely going to make me cry when I'm far away and not at home for Christmas. I love this cartoon so much, I hope it's still played on tv when I have kids!
Same here! You can actually order the DVD on Amazon! I missed watching it so much that I decided to order it. So if it is not on tv, you could always order it :)
Lol way ahead of you, man! I actually got the dvd as a present last Christmas! I just like seeing it on tv better, it isn't the same when you watch on dvd, but I'm glad to have it. Thanks for helping, though :)
I love this show, I watch it every christmas. My dad recorded this and a bunch of other christmas shows that were on CBS in 1988 when I was just 4. I watch that tape to this day because all of the old commercials are on it and it brings back memories.
Hahaha I love this episode, I watch it every year at christmas. I can totally relate to the boys at the end, im always so excited to open presents on christmas morning.
Haha! 24 years of piano lessons and Doc boy still plays that bad! ^^
Wonderful cartoon! I wish that they still made theese! Cartoons nowadays are so god damn plastic and whitout emotions ... what happened to the good ones? =(
You know, I put that scene with Grandma and Garfield in the rocking chair right up there at number 2 of the top Christmas special moments, right behind of course Charlie Brown (Linus reciting the first Christmas story)
I was tomarkenfan83 and I mentioned my grandparents about a year ago... Now I can add my dad to the list.. He passed on July 13th 2009 and I miss him a lot.. Grandma says a lot of things about my own father... I will really miss him at Christmas and every year after...
I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. Keep him in your heart especially around this time. I'm sure he will continue to take great care of you and your family
'this is the night i miss him the most'... i think about my grandparents..i miss them sooo much~!! He left us in 1999 and Gram joined him in 2005. . makes me teary eyed
*Chuckle* When Grandma mentions that she's eating for two she's obviously referring to grandpa, but the look on dad's face suggests that he thinks she's referring to having a baby! Either that or he's shocked at how fast the food was eaten, not sure.
"In order to make it through life you have to be a little crazy....why just look at me, I talk to cats! *laughs*" I'm with Grandma, ya have to be crazy to make it through life, good crazy that is.
Ah, well, if that's true then there's a typo in the dialogue: it should be 'eating for *three*'. You're probably right though.... but it doesn't make the scene any less funny! XD
usually i wake up at like 12:30 in the morning and tell my mom and dad i want to open my presents and they say wait until at least 4:00 so i try to sleep until then but can't. so sometimes i snoop one be4 then
I don't blame John and Doc Boy for wanting to open their presents in the middle of the night. As soon as Christmas morning starts, i want to open mine right away!
i know right i wake up at 3:00am cause i have to use the bathroom then i notice it's christmas and i run into my mom room and be like opening present time!!!!!!!!!!! haha
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I watch it every year and laugh like its the first time I've seen it. Truly a classic. That grandmother is a trip!! ;p But I think everyone can relate to her story to Garfield about the grandfather...it's always hard during Christmas when you have lost someone you love.
I know what you mean, I lost my maternal grandfather six years ago, who was the only grandfather I ever knew, so I always get emotional about that part.
Ah, yes... good stuff here. The Grinch, Charlie Brown, Frosty, Babar, Ziggy, and Garfield are all memorable animated Christmas specials during my childhood.
They're just WAY more genuinely in-tune with the holiday season as opposed to the cliches we have today.
LOL at 0:18 Garfield and Odie ate so much food cause of grandma that their bellies look like they are gonna explode, Grandma says "I'm eating for two now dear" lol she's been feeding the pets
