Villazon is a surprise choice for Cavalli -- but his singing, rather inauthentic to ears accustomed to period style, brings out the romantic, passionate side of this music. I am not convinced by his performance, but I enjoyed it.

The style of singing bothers me a bit:

That's not how this type of music is usually performed in historically-informed performances.

One of the reasons why I like Baroque singing is because it avoids the Operatic screams of the latter half of the 19-th century
